NIKOLO Salazar recalls his experience at the height of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan) and its aftermath: “Every day we had to search for food. Money didn’t matter. It was all about survival. We were all back to zero.”
He says he and his family were lucky to have been spared: “I thought that the whole world was affected—that it was the end.”
After the calamity, he suffered even greater trauma when he saw dead bodies along the road. “They were all piled up,” he recalls. “I initially thought to myself that life, as it is, is what you have. It is fragile and you just have to make the most of it depending on circumstances.”

Making an Impact,
Promoting Art with a Cause.
Arts of Nepal provides common interactive art platform for Nepali artists, there by exposing their best artworks and talents to the world. ArtsOfNepal.com houses one of the largest and wide collections of Nepali art, ranging from tradition art like Newari Pauba, thangka and Mithila to modern abstract and semi abstract art.
Nepal, known as a land of diverse cultures, languages, ethnicities and religions, has to offer amazing variety of artworks. However, these artists remain in dark, unknown to the outside world. ArtsOfnepal.com is proud to bring out the hidden talents out of the closet, while appreciating and respecting their work, presenting their work to the public.

The Art Works!: Sangai Khelaun (Let’s Play Together) is a new initiative with an aim to run a number of programmes in communities displaced or affected by Nepal's earthquakes. One of the initiative's main aims is simply: 'to engage children and their communities in creative and joyful activities...foster children’s imagination and raise self-esteem.'
The first programme was run in Ghaychchock in Gorkha from 12th-16th June, fueled by an energized variety of artists and creative professionals to make up the artists collective: visual artists, circus performers and practitioners, dancers, theatre practitioners, writers and educators. And an art psychotherapist!
Thanks art therapist Gretchen Ladd, for sharing this photo of two kids in Nepal having a great time! Gretchen had this to say about the photo: "I had a great meeting with one of our Nepal House Board members this morning. We were talking about cross-cultural issues regarding art and play materials and she shared this photo (from an area just outside of Pokhara) with me…oil bottles, rubber sandals, bamboo….perfecto!" So much can be made out of just a few materials! Gretchen said it best: "perfecto!"
These children fled ISIS and are living in a former prison. They're dealing with their new lives as refugees through art.

I adore colouring in. Finally someone has acknowledged that colouring in is great for adults as well as children and I no longer have to use the kids colouring books. We love family colouring and have had some great evenings colouring in on a super piece of fabric I got from Ikea with fabric pens …
