A message from The Company We Keep
Hello there people. We've been a bit quiet in the past weeks, winding down from our short summer tour, and gearing up to begin finishing many many demos as we move closer to tracking our first record. Thank you to anyone and everyone who came out to see a show on this past tour! We appreciate it very much, and we had a blast.
I wish i was writing simply with good news about the progress toward s the tracking of our first album, but sadly we now face a very difficult set back. Amy Brennan, our friend and singer, has decided that she would like to move on and pursue other options in her life. She will be extremely difficult to replace, and we're very sad to see such a talented and amazing person leave our band. In the coming months you will most likely be seeing a lot of Amy as she explores other ventures and goes on to great things, so be prepared! As for TCWK, while this will obviously slow us down, we have no intentions of giving in. With nearly 30 songs in the cue at the moment, and we're working on finishing demo versions of all songs and getting things in line to track an album as soon as possible. Obviously in order to do this, we're going to need a voice to make it all work! We've decided in an effort to reach as many interested parties as possible, we'd love to make this a a very open audition process. We also don't want to exclude anyone simply because of what we once had, so while we would still like to have a female singer, we welcome any men to give it a shot as well if interested! Step 1 is to read the criteria below, followed quickly by Step 2: email us a link, preferably a video, of you singing anything! 90's alternative rock covers will move you to the top of the list, but videos of any actual performances with current/previous bands would be great as well. From there, if we like what we've seen/heard, we will send you one of the songs from our Making Moves release, sans vocals, and ask you to record your own version of the song so we can hear your voice in context with our music. Step 3, if there is a Step 3, would be making a trip to Michigan to work on some of our newer songs, and see if we all get along and work well together. What we're looking for: - must be at least 21 years old - must be ready, willing, and able to tour 8-10 months a year and love being poor - previous band/tour experience is a major plus - being able to play an instrument is also a major plus - you think Stabbing Westward used to be awesome If you're interested in being heard, please send a video/mp3/streaming link to [email protected]. If you send music only, please include a photo! We're excited and look forward to your submissions, and hopefully soon we'll be announcing the new singer of this band and making a record!
It's demo time! TCWK is at 37 Studios recording LP1 under the working title "baxter"

POZ Road Blog: The Company We Keep (Pre-Update)
The Company We Keep are heading out on a tour within the next few days, and the band has written up two pre-tour updates in preparation of their upcoming PropertyOfZack Road Blog feature. Check out the first one below!
From Brian Southall:
Hi,Ā
My name is Brian Southall, I am 30 years old, and instead of buying a house and settling down, I just bought a van and decided to start a band.Ā Ā Yes, I am insane.Ā Ā I realize that concert attendance is drastically down, I know that people rarely buy records anymore, and since Iāve spent the past 4-5 years Tour Managing bands, I realize how very hard it is to make any sort of living doing thisā¦. but⦠I DONT CARE.
We humans are becoming a terrible joke of a race, and I refuse to become a part of this complacent generation just content getting by.Ā Ā I want to make music for a living, and there is absolutely nothing else that makes me feel the same way, so I plan to make it happen, somehow, some way.Ā Ā Iāve never been the guy with the cool clothes, cool hair, terrible tattoos, etc⦠Iām just a guy who likes writing songs and performing them with my friends, and I decided, as bad of an idea as I know it is, Iām going to give it one last shot.Ā Ā One last attempt at being in a touring band, and doing what I love, with people that I love while traveling uncomfortably across this country.Ā Ā So this here road blog will be the chronicle of our second tour ever as a band, and our first time in most of these cities.Ā Ā Iām extremely excited, mildly terrified, but most of all, Iām content knowing that Iām not sitting on my ass wondering what if, or spending my days complaining about doing something that I hate.Ā Ā
I hope weāre interesting enough to catch your eye, and maybe youāll share some of this experience with us.Ā
The Company We Keep are gearing up to go out on their second tour, and both Amy Brennan and Brian Southall from the band made Playlists for PropertyOfZack. Weāve paired both of the memberās Playlists with their pre-tour Road Blogs as well.Ā Check out the Playlists on Spotify and the Road Blogs below!

From Amy Brennan:
Itās Amy here :) If you didnāt know, weāre about to go on our second tour EVER. Couldnāt be more excited! Right now, life is taking many turns and crazy loops and itās all a big blur, but this tour is such a getaway for me to go do what I love every night with people I love. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we do. This is actually only my second tour personally as well. I havenāt been to most of the cities we are hitting, so the level of excitement and curiosity is sky high. Nothing makes me happier than playing music and to be able to wake up in a new city everyday to do just that is something I feel very lucky and blessed to do. I hope this road blog brings us all a little bit closer and leaves for some rad memories to be kept forever.

PropertyOfZack Review : : The Company We Keep
The Company We Keepās debut release, Making Moves, also serves to launch a series of six 7ās (from six different artists) under the same name to be issued as part of a collaboration between Drexel Universityās Mad Dragon Records and the band Motion City Soundtrack. But while TCWK features MCS majordomo Justin Pierre on guitar, Making Moves finds him taking a backseat to the twin creative engines of multi-instrumentalist Brian Southall (Boysā Night Out, The Receiving End Of Sirens) and newcomer, vocalist Amy Brennan. The Company We Keep began as Southallās project, and the dense electronic programming on Making Moves bears his footprints.
Lead track āThe Company She Keepsā is easily the poppiest of the three, with a massive chorus and a vocal hook bolstered by brightly chirping synths that positively detonate the gloomy atmosphere of the surrounding verses.Ā Meanwhile, āPattern Against Userā tacks in nearly the exact opposite direction, reimagining At The Drive-In as a punked-out female fronted Stabbing Westward, with heavily processed vocals layered over a background that sounds compressed to the redline, chaotic and claustrophobic.
āRight/Wrongā owes as much to the schlocky nu-goth of Evanescence as it does to contemporaries VersaEmerge. Fortunately, Brennanās vocals are a little more punk and a little less vampy than Amy Leeās; thereās a bit of bite, a measured thinness and fine-grit sandpaper edge to her tone (more warning signal than siren call). It would be nice to hear her cut loose a bit more, but even as is, her edge leads the trackās lithe verses through a dense fabric of paranoid electronics, like a needle trailing thread.
