Happiness.
There was a time when she thought she was happy. Killing warrior after warrior, bathing in entire battlefields worth of blood, personally slaying the champions of Soul Society’s enemies...at the time, she had thought herself quite happy with her life. Even as her opponents slowly started to disappear and that dreadful, all-consuming boredom began to set in, she had only ever regarded the height of her slaughters as the happiest times of her life. She had believed that with every fiber of her being. She would have sworn to her grave that it was so.
Then she met him, and for one glorious moment, she realized she had never known the meaning of the word. When her sword clashed against his, when their twin smiles were as wide as the moon, even as his blade plunged into her chest and she realized with trembling elation that he was stronger than her, she finally learned the meaning of joy. It was magnificent. Breathtaking.
And she ruined everything!
When she fully understood what she had done to him, she could barely contain her disgust. Her weakness and incompetence had robbed him of his strength. She had healed the boy as quickly as she could, but the damage was done; his great power was now a shadow of its former self, shackled forever by his fear of losing his treasured foe. Her bile rose at thought that this was all her fault, that this magnificent man’s potential had been hobbled because she hadn’t been good enough! And so, for the first and last time in her life, Unohana Yachiru did the unthinkable.
She ran. Before the boy had the chance to awaken, she ran as far and as fast as her legs would carry her. Yet no matter how far she fled, she could not escape her sin. Realizing that she would never be able to forget her great failure, Unohana completely cast aside all she had been. As far as Soul Society was concerned, that was the day that “Yachiru” had died, and it was the day that “Retsu” was born.
It had been so long since that day. They had both gone through so much. So many new faces had come and gone, so many foes had reared their heads and been felled. But now, finally, in that pit, with clashing blade and beaming grin and booming laughter, when his blade once again pierced her chest in the same spot as before, she finally felt that glorious emotion again.
Happiness.
She was on the ground now. Her strength was fading, and her life with it. Yet, she was still so happy. He was finally whole again. She had finally given him the fight he’d deserved. The sin of her past, finally atoned. With this...yes, with this, she could-
“DON’T DIE!”
...Oh, honestly! Even after all these years, even after regaining his true power, he was still such a hopeless child. He didn’t even have the good sense to see her off in triumph? Why couldn’t he at least win with a smile?
What if he damages himself again?
A small thought. An unbidden thought. An absolutely unforgivable thought. Fury spread throughout Unohana’s every pore at the very notion that she might yet again put his potential in jeopardy. Through the sheer strength of her scalding spite, she dragged the last reserves of reiatsu she had within her body and used as much of it as she could to heal the wound he had dealt. It wasn’t enough to close it completely, unfortunately. But perhaps, if he could stop blubbering and bothered to think for once, then Isane...
She barely had the thought before she slipped into the inky blackness of unconsciousness. She wasn’t sure how long it lasted; it could have been decades, or it could have been seconds. Whatever the reality was, she felt the unbidden sting of light pierce her eyelids. This feeling...was she laying on one of the medical beds in the Fourth Division? How had she gotten here?
With a mighty groan and a bleary series of blinks, Unohana sat herself up, trying to shake off the last vestiges of unconsciousness as she asked the room she couldn’t yet quite see “Where...?”
Unohana watched as he began his attempt. There were those within the 4th Division who believed Kenpachi Zaraki only had two emotions: boredom and excitement. This was only because they were too frightened of him to pay attention. If they had, they would have realized that the man not only felt just as strongly as anyone else, he was also an open book. Zaraki did not hide what he was feeling at any given moment, and Unohana was convinced he didn’t even know how to do so in the first place.
She could pinpoint the exact moment the doubt poisoned his mind. She could see his frustration, his loneliness, and all of his anxieties. She saw his need, his desperation to have the one he cared for most returned to him. She saw the moment he managed to get close, yet not close enough, and she heard him waste those precious words on a pointless apology.
Unohana took a moment to take a deep breath in, slowly exhale, and contain herself.
Were the Captain of the 4th Division a thousand years younger, she would have raked him across the coals for that performance. She would have verbally eviscerated him for every second he had faltered, every moment he fell short. She would have questioned his devotion to seeing this through, to seeing his daughter again, and she would have spat upon his inevitable ire. She would, to put it bluntly, have bitched him the fuck out.
She was not so lacking in empathy anymore. She understood now that such brutal castigation could do much more harm than good. Certainly, if he were his normal belligerent self, such methods could potentially push him forward. However, he was currently in a more vulnerable state than she had ever known him to be in. It was a unique fragility, and she could not be sure that such methods would not cause his guilt to crush his will.
She would give him a chance.
“Do you understand why you failed?”
Still thinking about that flashback. Imma just quickly compile a thing here.
1. I saw a lot of headcanons about how the first Isoroku Yamamoto v. Johann Sebastian Bach fight went down back in the day, but I don’t think I ever saw anyone claim that Sasakibe made the clutch play.
2. Yachiru jumping into the fray first, because of-fucking-course she would.
3. The depressed looking dude that we only got a side profile of in the reveal picture seems to have a Kira-esque fascination with cutting off heads.
4. The oldest man just going around finishing off people who are already out of the fight.
5. Brown Man fought with kicks, which is only going to add fuel to the rumor fire of him being a Shihouin.
6. Glasses Guy goes out of his way to slit his enemies’ throats. Dunno what to make of that.
7. Glasses Gal had one of the most brutal on-screen kills of them all, which lends credence to the idea that she is either the craziest or the most vicious. Which everyone already guessed from how normal she looks compared to everyone else.
8. I didn’t realize how fuckin’ tall Fur Coat was holy shit he’s got that Zaraki height.
9. In the reveal picture, I couldn’t tell if the teeth dude was missing his lips or if he’d painted those on. Glad the anime cleared that up.
10. China really does give off those “psycho version of Komamura” vibes, considering what he did to those two guys combined with him being The Big One.
11. Pigtails needs to put that tongue away, there’s Quincy blood flying everywhere and she doesn’t know where it’s been.
12. I am now more confused than ever over why Gauntlets needed to hide his face in the reveal picture, considering that he looks pretty much exactly like you’d expect.
13. Hat Dude still looks like the second-most Kuchiki-looking person ever shown on screen, even without the hat. Also, where in the shit did Hat Dude’s hat go?!

If I reply to other threads before ours, or I take awhile to reply to our thread, I swear I’m not ignoring it by any means. I just simply have the inspiration for the other threads and I don’t want to write a crappy reply to our thread because you deserve so much more than that. So please be patient and thank you for putting up with my selectively creative brain. Love you all <3

What do you look for in a rp partner? Are there certain characters that you gravitate towards?

15. What do you look for in a rp partner?
Look, my standards are almost non-existent. If you're not an asshole and your posts are legible enough for me to understand what you mean, I'm good.
21. Are there certain characters that you gravitate towards?
The characters I gravitate towards are entirely dependent on the muse that I am writing for, because I'm the type of person who tries to keep my characters as close to canon as possible while still allowing for my own take. Like, Unohana's great as a muse, because I can justify her interacting in any way with almost any other muse. She's such a flexible character that it makes things really friggin' easy to explain either way.
Yamamoto is harder, because he draws a hard line in the sand against people he believes are a threat to Soul Society on top of being Lawful Neutral personified. That being said, he's still okay because I can explain him interacting with most characters any number of ways, and most people who RP Bleach on tumblr have Shinigami muses tucked away somewhere anyhoodle.
With Borsalino, it's a goddamn nightmare since he's one to kick pirates into past tense, and most people in the One Piece rpc rp pirate muses. It doesn't help that, from what little I've seen thus far, the Marine sub-rpc specifically seems pretty deserted; I've seen maybe two others, and they were both multimuses who primarily played pirates.
Are there any AU’s you’d like to explore but haven’t had the chance to yet?
Munday Meme
There are so many AUs I have that I'd love to try out, it's not even funny. The AU page on my blog is already way too long and I'm still not out of ideas. So I'm gonna "limit" myself by just listing two from each of the three categories I have them separated into right now.
Bleach AU (For AUs that remain in the domain of Bleach specifically)
Transcendent Terror: In this AU, Unohana merges with Minazuki in a similar way to how Ichigo merged with Zangetsu and Zangetsu during the battle against Aizen. That state Ichigo reached has such fascinating implications that the form wasn't around long enough to explore, and I'd love the chance to really dissect it with someone as different from Ichigo as Unohana.
No Kings, Only Souls: My AU where Unohana takes Aizen's place as the Big Bad of Part 1. Mostly, this is because Unohana's so different from Aizen that her motivations and reasoning would inherently be different as well. Thinking about both her own internal rationalizations for her actions, as well as how Soul Society would react to their enemy being both understandable and actually likable, is just really fascinating to me.
Crossover AU (For AUs that crossover with a non-Bleach property)
Rurouni Kenshin: The author may be a piece of shit, but Rurouni Kenshin is still a fantastic series. It's so different from Bleach, so I'd be super down for exploring how similar and how different she'd be in its much more realistic setting.
Naruto: Okay, I don't have this one on the AU page, but god damn it; the Samurai of that setting are so cool and they deserve way more love than they got. Granted, she'd be a ronin by default, but still!
Genre-Shift AU (For AUs where Bleach is a different type of story)
Mecha Anime AU: From Mazinger to Gundam, from Evangelion to Gurren Lagann, I am mecha trash. I would love to explore Unohana in a Mecha anime setting.
Wushu AU: I'll be the first to admit that by "Wushu", I actually mean "stories and settings like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", but even so. Having Unohana go a different path, one where she goes from mere murderer to someone who uses the sword purely for the sake of self-improvement and enlightenment is a super interesting concept that I'd love to explore if I ever get the chance.

17. Least Favorite Trope?
Over the years, I've come to take a more and more hardline stance against certain tropes. Off the top of my head, the one that I'm just sick to fucking death of the most right now is that whole "the real monster was MAN" schlock. A part of this is just overexposure, admittedly; I consume a lot of horror stuff, and that garbage pops up all the god damn time in horror stories. But yeah, it used to be just a thing I noticed, but I just despise it nowadays.
19. Do you listen to music whilst writing? If so, what kind of music?
I answered to first part here, but the short answer is it depends. As for the kind of music, well, that also depends. Listening to The Beatles is going to inspire me in a very different way than listening to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra will, but they can both help my inspiration depending on the sort of thing I'm trying to write. So depending on the situation, I might listen to metal, pop, Christmas music, orchestral music, Pokemon music, or just fucking anything that catches my ear; I like something from most genres, even if I'm not a fan of those genres as a whole.
13. What’s one random headcanon about your muse that people mightn’t know?
Munday Meme
Unohana had half a mind to tan Ikkaku's hide when she learned what had transpired during the Fake Karakura fight. A part of this is that he let his pillar get broken; old habits die hard, and as the founder of the 11th Division, the ancient urge to punish their failures is still a strong one even in the present day.
However, a part of this would also be because she knows he's holding back; I haven't decided yet if she'd know about his Bankai or not, but she'd definitely know he's strong enough to achieve it, if nothing else. Someone strong enough to achieve Bankai has no business losing to a Fraccion. That means, to Unohana, he was putting his own personal insecurities-whatever they may be-above Soul Society's needs, and Unohana is slow to forgive such things.
She wouldn't have done anything, though. She is no longer the Captain of the 11th, after all; Zaraki and Yamamoto are the only ones who have the right to decide whether or not he deserves punishment for his failure, let alone what that punishment should hypothetically be. Understanding this doesn't stop her from privately fuming, of course, but she's professional enough to not let her personal hang-ups interfere with her work.

8. What are some similarities between you and your muse/muses?
I have basically nothing in common with my muses. If I had to grasp at straws, I like swords like Unohana, the only hair that grows on my head anymore is the stuff on my chin like Yamamoto, and I like not taking things too seriously like Kizaru.
14. Who is an author that inspires you?
My favorite author of all time is Terry Pratchett. I don't go out of my way to write like him, since he was way more witty than I'll ever be, but the fact he's my favorite means that his style was naturally a big influence for me.
16. Favorite Trope?
God, there's so many that vie for that spot. I am trope trash. Right now, I would say that my favorite trope is when someone the audience knows is a super badass is just doing goofy normal person things. I dunno, there's just something really endearing about it to me. Like, yeah, I could cut the moon in half, but the groceries aren't gonna buy themselves.
