I associate the PC game Zapper: One Wicked Cricket most with when I was in elementary school. Such a good game!
frodo baggins!
someone had to and I will not apologize
merry the fellowship leaves rivendell day to all who celebrate it
Almost like hope for evils ultimate defeat starts with something Christmas something
repeating this to myself forever and ever
If you haven't read Tolkien's Letters from Father Christmas, you totally should! What a special thing he did for his kids, and how neat that we are able to read them too all these years later.
really wish I too was waking up in the house of elrond at ten o'clock in the morning on october the 24th. if you want to know
I'm thinking about Frodo after his return from Mt Doom. I'm thinking of what he thought about in his sleepless nights, back in Bag End. Of how often his thoughts went back to that day, that moment, when he failed to cast the ring into the fire. If he ever realized that he did everything he could, everything anybody in his position could have done. Or, if he keeps it to himself like a dirty secret, like a sin; the fact that the ring was unmade not because of him, but of the domino effect of Gollum's survival. And when he recalls Gollum, I wonder if he sees him as the actual force of good in his story, or perhaps, the victim of his own weakness to the ring. I wonder if he wonders about an alternative sequence of events where Sméagol survived, and if his death is something he carries like a stigma. If sometimes the weight of the dead crushes him. If he averts his eyes in shame when the other members of the fellowship mention his fortitude, because the shadow of doubt instilled in him by the ring is ever-present, long after its demise. I wonder if he reenacts that fatidic day in his mind, and tries to get glimpses of how he could have acted in a way that did not leave him so diminished and broken. I'm thinking about Frodo.

Sauron’s desktop when Pippin and later Aragorn looks into the Palantir
For Valentine’s Day, l made these Hobbit-themed message cards!
Feel free to share them with that special someone of yours!
An interesting linguistic point from the book "Frodo's Journey" by Joseph Pearce
"Gandalf informs Pippin and therefore the reader that [palantir] means 'that which looks far away.'"
In Quenya, palan = far and wide, and tir= watch. Palantir can be translated as "far-seer."
"'far-see' in German is Fernsehen, the German word for television [...] Tele is Greek for 'far' and video is Latin for 'see.'"
Therefore, as Pearce points out, Denethor basically got depressed because he was watching too much of Sauron's propaganda on TV!
There's still Frodo hate going on in the tags... I really don't get when people get annoyed with Frodo for... getting hurt??? Like it's somehow his own fault? As the Ringbearer, he was a target anyway. And how dare he react like a normal person by crying out in pain when injured! Bruh.
I know he was more stoic in the book after being stabbed by the Morgul blade, and he challenged the Ringwraiths, (which was pretty cool, and sometimes I do love me some "I'm fine" when bro is not fine) but listen. The movie had to move things along more quickly, which meant that the poison had to act more quickly. I maintain that movie Frodo's response to the Ringwraiths when they were coming for him was more relatable.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS The Two Towers
Frodo Baggins, you will always be my favorite hobbit!
He sets out from the Shire already knowing that he probably won’t come back, and if he does, he will be forever changed. But he does it anyway, because the idea of the Shire and all of its people not existing is unthinkable. He saves the world, even though he knows that he can’t fully enjoy it in the same way that he did before. He saves it for his friends and for their families and for future generations so that hobbits can eat six meals a day and enjoy life and be silly and lovely.
And yeah, in that moment on Mount doom, after carrying the burden of the ring for all of that long horrible way, looking into that fire… He couldn’t do it. He couldn’t destroy it. But he always sort of knew in the back of his mind that he wouldn’t be able to destroy it and so did Gandalf. But the kindness of Frodo, the mercy, compassion, looking at a pitiful, miserable creature who hates you and deciding to spare its life, saves the world.
And then he doesn’t die on his quest, and he comes back home and it’s not quite the same home that he left behind, but it will heal and be just as beautiful as ever someday. And his friends have these lovely lives, and he still feels it, the pain of his wounds, of the ring, always weighing on his mind. A silent sort of grief.
And so he leaves middle earth. that place he worked so hard to save. He rests.
It’s such a bittersweet end.
 it never gets old!
“happy new year!” i say. "excuse me,“ someone replies. it is gandalf. “but what do you mean? do you wish me a happy new year, or mean that it is a happy new year whether I want it or not; or that you feel happy this new year; or that it is a new year to be happy in?”
