[tab title=”Bio: “] Gareth Daley (born 29 September 1989), better known professionally as Daley (pronounced day-lee), is a British recording artist and songwriter. Daley first became prominent after co-writing and featuring on the Gorillaz 2010 single “Doncamatic”, having been spotted by the band’s creator Damon Albarn early in his career as an underground artist on the London music scene.

The song exposed him to a wider international audience. In 2011, his mixtape Those Who Wait mixtape was independently released and achieved 150,000 downloads over its first twelve months. Its success saw him promptly signed to Universal Music.

The next two years saw him releasing two top 30 singles on the UK Singles Chart, including 2012’s “Remember Me” featuring singer Jessie J and 2013’s “Broken”. Daley’s debut album Days & Nights was released in February 2014 to critical acclaim and generated the Pharrell Williams produced top ten hit “Look Up” on the Billboard’s Adult R&B Songs.

Next to opening for the likes of Miguel, Maxwell, Emeli Sande, Jill Scott and Maverick Sabre, Daley has headlined venues like KOKO, Highline Ballroom, El Rey Theatre, 930 Club, and the Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta.[/tab] [tab title=”Photos: “]

In 2009, at age 12, Kodak Black joined a rap group called “Brutal Yungenz”, under his first official stage name “J-Black”. He then joined a local rap group called “The Kolyons”. In December 2013, Kodak Black later released his first mixtape, Project Baby, followed in December 2014 with the mixtape “Heart of the Projects”, and in December 2015 with the mixtape Institution.

In October 2015, Canadian rapper Drake posted a video of himself dancing to one of Kodak Black’s songs, “Skrt”, which helped Kodak Black gain popularity. That same month, Kodak Black signed a deal with Atlantic Records. In May 2016, Kodak Black and rapper and label-mate Lil Uzi Vert announced their intention to partner for a national tour called the “Parental Advisory Tour”, however, Kodak Black did not appear on the tour.

In May 2016, Kodak Black was featured on French Montana’s single “Lockjaw”, from French Montana’s twenty first mixtape MC4, which reached a peak position of 23 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In August 2016, Kodak Black’s single Skrt reached number 10 on Billboard’s “Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles” chart. In June 2016, he released his fourth mixtape, Lil B.I.G. Pac, which became his first mixtape to chart on Billboard, reaching number 49 on the “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” chart and number 18 on the Heatseakers Albums chart.

In June 2016, Kodak Black was named one of XXL magazine’s “2016 Freshman Class”.

In August 2016, Kodak Black was criticized when a studio session video was released showing him ridiculing dark-skinned black women with lyrics which implied those women were less attractive than light-skinned black women. While in jail in 2016, he released the song “Can I”.

In January 2017, Kodak Black broadcast an Instagram Live video of himself in a Washington, D.C hotel room with several other men, while a lone female performed oral sex on them. Kodak Black’s Instagram account hit a record high during the broadcast. The rapper later posted a message on Twitter about the incident reading “If I could change I swear I would .. I tried everything but I’m just so hood.”

On February 17, 2017, Kodak Black released the single “Tunnel Vision”. The song debuted at number 27 and peaked at number 6, becoming Kodak’s first top 10 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 17 on the Canadian Hot 100.[/tab] [tab title=”Photos: “]

[tab title=”Bio: “]Eric Benét Jordan (born October 15, 1966), known professionally as Eric Benét, is an American R&B and neo soul singer-songwriter and actor, who has received a total of four Grammy nominations to date for his musical work. Benét sang with a Top 100-style group called Gerard in the late 1980s. Benét, his sister Lisa, and his cousin George Nash Jr. formed a band called Benét and released a self-titled album in 1992, and it went on to sell over 100,000 copies.

Two years later, Eric Benét broke onto the music scene with his solo career and signed with Warner Bros. Records, releasing his debut solo album, True to Myself in 1996. His second album, A Day in the Life, was released in 1999 and featured his smash hit “Spend My Life With You (featuring Tamia)”. The song rose to #1 on the US Billboard R&B charts (for 3 weeks), was certified gold, and nominated for a 2000 Grammy Award for “Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group”. The album also won a Soul Train Music Award for “Best R&B/Soul Album, Male”.

In 1994, Benét signed with Warner Bros. Records, releasing his solo debut album, True to Myself in 1996. Individual songs from the album were successful, including the top-ten R&B hits “Spiritual Thang”, “Femininity” and “Let’s Stay Together”, which originally appeared on the soundtrack of the film A Thin Line Between Love and Hate.

In between albums, Eric collaborated with his then-labelmates Somethin’ for the People on their 1997 album This Time It’s Personal singing leads on the single “Act Like You Want It”. His next album, A Day in the Life, was released in 1999. Its first single, “Georgy Porgy (featuring Faith Evans)” received significant airplay, but the second single, “Spend My Life With You (featuring Tamia)”, became a smash hit. “Spend My Life With You” rose to number one on the American R&B charts, was certified gold, and nominated for a 2000 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group. The album, A Day in the Life also won a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Album, Male.

Benét also recorded for Earth, Wind, and Fire’s 30th anniversary CD. He contributed vocals to the post-Katrina charity single, “Heart of America” along with Michael McDonald, Wynonna Judd, and Terry Dexter. He has also lent his vocals to many jazz albums for such artists as Wayman Tisdale, George Duke, Chris Botti, Jeff Lorber, Boney James, etc.

Benét recorded his following album Better and Better in 2001, but Warner Bros. rejected to release this album and forced him to stay in the R&B genre. Due to the controversy about music style and creative freedom, Benét changed to Reprise-distributed label Friday Records and recorded his next album, Hurricane. Thus Hurricane became his third (released) studio album on June 21, 2005 in the US. “I Wanna Be Loved” was the song that received the most airplay. The single reached number two on the Urban Adult Contemporary chart.

His fourth album Love & Life was released on September 9, 2008. It debuted at number eleven on the Billboard 200 and number two on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, making this his own highest peak position since A Day in the Life in 1999. The first single “You’re the Only One” is also his first top 20 hit on the R&B chart in two years.[/tab] [tab title=”Photos: “]

She embarked on her musical career as a member of Floetry. Ambrosius later released her debut solo album Late Nights & Early Mornings in March 2011.

In 2000, the duo travelled to the United States to perform on the poetry circuit. After frequenting spoken word/poetry spots in Atlanta such as Yin Yang Poets’ Cafe (to positive reviews), they moved on to Philadelphia. There they met Darren “Limitless” Henson and Keith “Keshon” Pelzer of DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Touch Of Jazz studio and began recording. She also worked with Michael Jackson – she composed and sang as back-vocal the song “Butterflies”, from the album “Invincible”, released in 2001 and in 2002 it was publicated a single version of this song. In the same year, they signed with DreamWorks Records and released their debut album Floetic, which featured the singles “Floetic”, “Say Yes” and “Getting Late”.

Ambrosius has been featured on many songs including Styles P’s “I’m Black”; The Game’s “Start from Scratch” and “Why You Hate The Game.” (also featuring Nas); Busta Rhymes’ “Get You Some” and “Cocaina”; Nas’ “Hustlers” (also featuring The Game); and Hi-Tek’s “Music for Life” and Jamie Foxx’s “Freak’in Me”. The group has also collaborated with Earth, Wind & Fire on their album, Illumination, on the track “Elevated”. She collaborated once again with Slum Village called “Cloud 9”. In 2009, she guested on Wale’s “Diary”.

In summer 2009, Ambrosius was approached by numerous record labels offering her a solo deal after a long-awaited performance at NYC’s SOB’s where a sold out crowd gathered to a show accompanied by The Roots and DJ Aktive. In December 2009, Ambrosius signed to J Records and her solo debut Late Nights & Early Mornings was released on 1 March 2011. “Hope She Cheats On You (With A Basketball Player)” was released as the album’s first single on 13 August 2010. The song charted on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and peaked at no. 22. “Far Away” was released as the album’s second single on 7 December 2010. The album would debut at no. 1 on the US “Billboard” Hot R&B Charts and no. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 200 behind Adele and ahead of Mumford & Sons the first time in over 20 years that British Acts had topped the US charts.

Ambrosius won the Centric Award at the BET Awards of 2011. She was also nominated for Best Female R&B Artist at the BET Awards 2012.

Ambrosius won the Record of The Year (Ashford & Simpson Songwriters Award) at the 2011 Soul Train Awards for the song “Far Away”.

In August 2011, RCA Music Group announced it was disbanding J Records along with Arista Records and Jive Records. With the shutdown, Ambrosius (and all other artists previously signed to these three labels) will release her future material on the RCA Records brand.

Ambrosius released her second studio album, titled Friends & Lovers, in July 2014. Ambrosius received two MOBO Award nominations for the album. In 2015 Ambrosius received a nomination for Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for “As,” a collaboration she recorded with Anthony Hamilton for The Best Man Holiday.

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Wilburn first became involved in music as part of the Dungeon Family collective, where he was nicknamed “the Future”. After amassing a series of mixtapes between 2010 and 2011, Future signed a major record label deal with Epic Records and A1 Recordings, which helped launch Future’s own label imprint, Freebandz. He subsequently released his debut album, Pluto, in April 2012 to positive reviews. His second album, Honest, was released in April 2014, where it surpassed his debut on the album charts.

Between 2014 and early 2015, Future released a trio of well-received mixtapes: Monster (2014), Beast Mode (2015), and 56 Nights (2015). He followed later in the year with his third studio album, DS2, and the full-length Drake collaboration, What a Time to Be Alive, both of which debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200.

Future premiered his fourth solo album, EVOL, in February 2016 which also scored number one on the charts. In February 2017, he released two consecutive studio albums: FUTURE and HNDRXX, with the first one earning him his fourth number one album. In 2007, he signed to indie record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), where he eventually formed a hip hop supergroup Black Hippy, alongside his label-mates and fellow California-based rappers Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q. He is perhaps best known for his introspective lyrics and his four independent albums under TDE, Longterm Mentality, Control System, These Days…, and Do What Thou Wilt., which were all released to acclaimed reviews and commercial success.

In February 2011, Ab-Soul revealed he was working on an album titled Longterm Mentality, and subsequently released “Hell Yeah”, a track featuring Schoolboy Q. On February 22, 2011 Stevens released another promotional recording taken from the album, “Moscato”, a collaboration with another fellow Black Hippy, Kendrick Lamar. In February 2011, Stevens also embarked on the “Road to Paid Dues” concert tour, after being enlisted by fellow American rapper Murs.

On March 21, 2011 Stevens released the music video for a song titled “Nothin’ New”, in promotion for the album. On March 25, he released “Gone Insane”, the fourth track liberated that was taken from the album. On March 30, a trailer for Longterm Mentality, was released via Top Dawg Entertainment. On April 1, 2011 he released the music video for “Gone Insane”, directed by Top Dawg in-house directors Fredo Tovar and Scott Fleishman.

Stevens has stated the respective independent albums of his label-mates partly inspired material on Longterm Mentality: “I compare [the process behind] Longterm Mentality to the process with all of my joints. Kendrick’s OD had came out and Q’s Setbacks had came out. I had these bodies of work to go off of as references, as inspiration. I hear what Kendrick is talking about, I hear what Q is talking about, I heard what Jay Rock was talking about. So how am I going to piece this all together and add my own two cents, too? How do I continue the sound but have my individuality as an artist? It’s the same challenge every single time.” The album, although its title is Longterm Mentality, is not the third part of his Longterm series.

Soon after the release of Schoolboy Q’s second independent album, Habits & Contradictions (2012), Stevens began promoting his second independent album, releasing a song titled “Black Lip Bastard”, on January 17, 2012. On February 28, 2012, Ab-Soul, alongside Schoolboy Q, appeared on Sway Calloway’s #SwayInTheMorning radio show, where Ab-Soul called “Black Lip Bastard”: “pretty much one of the title tracks”, The first song that appears on the album, to be released was “Showin’ Love”, also produced by Willie B.

On March 24, Schoolboy Q announced #TheGroovyTour; a month-long tour with Ab-Soul accompanying him the entire way. The tour began on April 20, at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California. On April 6, 2012, Ab-Soul liberated a song titled “Terrorist Threats”. The song features frequent collaborator Jhené Aiko and fellow American rapper Danny Brown, who proclaimed on Twitter that “Black Hippy the new Beatles and I’m Harry Nilsson”.

On April 17, 2012, Ab-Soul revealed the album’s title to be Control System and unveiled the release date to be May 11, 2012. That same day, he also released a music video for “Pineal Gland”, a song inspired by the psychedelic drug DMT and of course the pineal gland, a small endocrine gland in the vertebrate brain. On April 24, 2012, Stevens released another song, “SOPA”. The song, produced by Nez & Rio, references the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), a United States bill introduced by U.S. Representative Lamar S. Smith, that would have allowed the U.S. government to control the Internet.

On May 1, 2012, Ab-Soul released another music video, for a new song titled “Empathy.” On May 4, 2012, it was revealed “Black Lip Bastard” was remixed and would feature his Black Hippy cohorts, Rock, Lamar and Schoolboy Q. He rose to prominence in 2006, when his song “Dig Dug (Shake It)” became popular in his hometown. Wale became locally recognized and continued recording music for the regional audience.

Producer Mark Ronson discovered Wale in 2006 and signed him to Allido Records in 2007. While signed to that label, Wale released several mixtapes and appeared in national media including MTV and various Black-American-focused magazines. A song called “Ridin’ in That Black Joint” was featured in the popular video game Saints Row 2’s soundtrack in 2008.

In 2008, Wale signed with Interscope Record, and his debut album Attention Deficit was released in 2009 with the singles “Chillin”, “Pretty Girls”, and “World Tour”. The album, although under-shipped, received positive reviews from critics. In early 2011, Wale signed with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, where members of the label released a compilation album, Self Made Vol. 1 on May 23, 2011.

His second studio album, Ambition was released November 1, 2011, with mixed reviews. His third studio album, The Gifted, was released on June 25, 2013, to mainly positive reviews; it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. James cites singers James Brown, Roberta Flack, Toni Braxton, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples, and Stevie Wonder as her influences. Her deep, rich, gritty vocals have drawn comparisons to Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Toni Braxton, and Tina Turner.

In 2004, James toured as an opening act for The Black Eyed Peas and Macy Gray. That same year, she was featured on hip hop producer, DJ, and emcee Pete Rock’s album Soul Survivor II, providing vocals to the track “No Tears”. In 2005, she lent her voice to the posthumously released Ray Charles album Genius & Friends, duetting with the singer on the song “Compared to What”.

James’ debut album, A Change Is Gonna Come, was released on June 21, 2005. The album was conceived as a throwback to an earlier era of American soul music, building upon the legacy of 1960s and 1970s soul singers while incorporating elements of contemporary R&B, funk, and gospel.

In the lyrics to the album’s lead single, “Music”, James laments the current state of contemporary popular music. She condemns the glorification of materialism and misogyny that has often been attributed to the lyrical content of contemporary R&B and hip hop songs while pleading for the return of the artistry, dedication, and sincerity displayed by musicians of earlier decades.

James co-wrote most of the tracks on her debut album, two exceptions being her covers of the pop rock band No Doubt’s 1996 hit “Don’t Speak” and the classic title song by Sam Cooke, for which the album is named. Notable collaborators on the album include Raphael Saadiq, Kanye West and Wyclef Jean. Leela guested on Robert Randolph and the Family Band’s 2006 album Colorblind, lending her vocals to “Stronger”.

After parting ways with Warner Bros., James signed with the independent label Shanachie Records and released her second studio album on March 24, 2009, an all-cover set entitled Let’s Do It Again (the title being a homage to the 1975 soundtrack album of the same name by The Staple Singers).

In June 2009, she appeared on the Moby album Wait for Me, performing the vocal on “Walk with Me”.

James’ third album My Soul – her debut release for the Stax label – was released on May 24, 2010, and debuted on the US Hip Hop/R&B chart at #7. Speaking in May 2010 to UK soul writer Pete Lewis of Blues & Soul, she stated: “With this album I wanted to make sure that I showed all sides of me – in terms of variety in the music and in my vocal range – while at the same time making it clear that every song deeply came from my soul. Plus I also wanted to incorporate a little more hip hop this time, and infuse it with my traditional R&B – because I felt that. By making my beats edgier and harder-hitting, I’d show there was more to me than just doing ballads and things of that sort.”

On July 8, 2014, Leela James released her fifth studio album, Fall For You. The album’s first two singles, “Say That” feat. Anthony Hamilton and “Fall For You” both reached Top 15 on the Billboard Urban AC charts, with “Fall For You” reaching #12. Representing the elite genre of classically-trained artists, Eric Stanley is the new face and persona of the young and creative innovators boldly changing the musical landscape by honoring tradition yet embracing the present.

His artistry is inescapable. No matter which genre of music you prefer, his vibe and melodic presence will resonate with you. Eric has been influential in the art of improvisation by remixing popular songs on his violin and fusing Classical, Pop, Jazz, Country, EDM and Hip Hop elements.

Growing up in a musical household, Eric’s mother would play piano while he and his siblings sang along. During one of his family’s jam sessions, Eric’s older brother played a viola which sparked Eric’s interest in playing viola as well. The then 12 year old chose to play violin instead when viola proved to be a challenge due to its size. During his high school years, he received professional training and joined the Richmond Youth Symphony Orchestra.

At the suggestion of his older sister, Eric uploaded videos of himself playing violin covers of his favorite songs in his dorm room to YouTube while attending Virginia Commonwealth University. To Eric’s surprise, his YouTube channel became a hit. The influx of requests for Eric to perform worldwide began and remain constant today. Awarded YouTube’s Silver Play Button Award in 2015 and the Black Caucus, Black Student Union & NAACP’s Master Of Music Award in 2012, Eric continues to amaze his 130K+ YouTube subscribers and the masses, hence, his 19 million+ YouTube views.

His impressive performance repertoire includes: ESPN’s First Take, International Emmy® Kids Awards, Hennessy’s 250th Celebration, Kimora Lee Simmons’ KLS Spring Summer 2017 NY Fashion Week Show, Televisa’s TVyNovelas Nominee Awards Party, Birth Of A Nation Premiere Reception, ShaggFest, Super Bowl Champ Michael Robinson’s Celebrity Waiter Fundraiser, 9 Mile Music Festival, Senator Kevin S. Parker’s Annual MLK, Jr. Tribute Concert, Richmond Jazz Festival, Nordic eCommerce Summit, TEDxRVA, as well as Elliot Masie’s Learning Conference 2011 in which former President Bill Clinton served as keynote speaker, just to name a few.

Starting out as two devoted disciples of earlier soul greats, Daryl Hall & John Oates are soul survivors in their own right. They have become such musical influences on some of today’s popular artists that the September 2006 cover of Spin Magazine’s headline read: “Why Hall and Oates are the New Velvet Underground.” Their artistic fan base includes Rob Thomas, John Mayer, Brandon Flowers of the Killers, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie and MTV’s newest hipsters Gym Class Heroes who dubbed their tour “Daryl Hall for President Tour 2007.” One of the most sampled artists today, their impact can be heard everywhere from boy band harmonies, to neo-soul to rap-rock fusion.

Signed to Atlantic by Ahmet Ertegun in the 1970’s, Daryl Hall & John Oates have sold more albums than any other duo in music history. Their 1973 debut album, Abandoned Luncheonette, produced by Arif Mardin, yielded the Top 10 single, “She’s Gone,” which also went to #1 on the R&B charts when it was covered by Taveras. The duo recorded one more album with Atlantic, War Babies, (produced by Todd Rundgren) before they left and promptly signed to RCA. Their tenure at RCA would catapult the duo to international superstardom.

From the mid-’70s to the mid-’80s, the duo would score six #1 singles, including “Rich Girl” (also #1 R&B), “Kiss on My List,” “Private Eyes,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do) (also #1 R&B), “Maneater” and “Out of Touch” from their six consecutive multi-platinum albums—’76’s Bigger Than Both of Us, ’80’s Voices, ’81’s Private Eyes, ‘82’s H2O, ‘83’s Rock N Soul, Part I and ‘84’s Big Bam Boom. The era would also produce an additional 5 Top 10 singles, “Sara Smile,” “One on One,” “You Make My Dreams,” “Say It Isn’t So” and “Method of Modern Love.”

Daryl also wrote the H&O single “Everytime You Go Away,” which singer Paul Young scored a number-one hit with a cover of the song in 1985.

That same year, Daryl and John, participated in the historic “We Are the World” session as well as closing the Live Aid show in Philadelphia.

By 1987, the R.I.A.A. recognized Daryl Hall and John Oates as the NUMBER-ONE SELLING DUO in music history, a record they still hold today.

On May 20, 2008, the duo was honored with the Icon Award during BMI’s 56th annual Pop Awards. The award has previously gone to the Bee Gees, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Paul Simon, Brian Wilson, Willie Nelson, James Brown, Ray Davies, Carlos Santana and Dolly Parton.

Daryl Hall’s latest project is a multi-award-winning monthly web series (and MTV Live show), Live from Daryl’s House (www.livefromdarylshouse.com). “It was a light bulb moment,” he says of the show’s genesis. “I’ve had this idea about just sitting on the porch or in my living room, playing music with my friends and putting it up on the Internet.” Live from Daryl’s House is also aired weekly on MTV Live every Thursday at 11pm EST/8pm PST.

The past episodes of Live From Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like Jason Mraz, Joe Walsh, Booker T and the MGs, Blind Boys of Alabama, Rob Thomas, Cheap Trick, Train, Cee Lo Green, Smokey Robinson, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Toots Hibbert, Nick Lowe, K.T. In March 2014, Eagle Rock Entertainment released their first new concert video in seven years: Daryl Hall And John Oates: Live In Dublin on DVD+2CD, Blu-ray and Digital Formats. Filmed at the Olympia Theatre on July 15, 2014, this set features the duo’s first ever concert performance in Dublin. Daryl Hall and John Oates dipped into their 40+ year rich repertoire to deliver a setlist steeped in hits: “Sara Smile,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” “Out Of Touch,” “Kiss On My List,” “Private Eyes,” “Rich Girl,” “Maneater,” and many more. It’s fitting that this high-energy 15-song concert film traverses songs from across their career, as Hall promises the audience that their “making up for lost time” in a city they’ve never performed in before.

Daryl Hall opened “Daryl’s House,” the restaurant and music club, on Halloween night ‘14 in Pawling, NY with a special performance featuring H&O. “Daryl’s House,” which also serves as the backdrop of Palladia’s Live From Daryl’s House, aims to combine top-notch food with amazing artists.

John Oates released his latest solo project Good Road To Follow (PS Records / Elektra Records) on March 18, 2014. What started as a yearlong series of digital singles has culminated in a three-disc set of genre-specific EPs aptly named Route 1, Route 2, and Route 3. [/tab] [tab title=”Photos: “]

Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows from a young age. Having signed with Jive Records in 2004, Brown released his self-titled debut studio album the following year. It peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), selling an overall three million copies worldwide.

With his first single “Run It!” peaking atop the US Billboard Hot 100, Brown became the first male artist as a lead since Diddy in 1997 to have his debut single top the chart. His second album Exclusive (2007) spawned his second Hot 100 number one “Kiss Kiss”, in addition to “With You” and “Forever”. The album was also certified double platinum by the RIAA. In addition to his solo commercial success, Brown has been featured on several singles such as “No Air”, a duet with singer Jordin Sparks, “Shortie like Mine” with the rapper Bow Wow and “Shawty Get Loose” alongside Lil Mama and T-Pain. The songs have peaked at number three, number nine and number ten on the US Billboard Hot 100 respectively.

In 2009, Brown received significant media attention after pleading guilty to felony assault of his then girlfriend, singer Rihanna; he was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service. His third album Graffiti was released later that year, and included the top-twenty single “I Can Transform Ya”. Brown’s fourth album F.A.M.E. (2011) became his first to top the Billboard 200; it spawned the singles “Yeah 3x”, “Look at Me Now”, and “Beautiful People”. F.A.M.E. earned Brown his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 54th Grammy Awards.

His fifth album Fortune was released in 2012. However, after the release of Exclusive, Brown’s albums have not been well received commercially or by music critics, with the exception of X, which received a normalized rating of 63. Brown’s seventh studio album Royalty was released on December 18, 2015.

Apart from his work in the music industry, Brown has pursued an acting career. In 2007, he made his on-screen feature film debut in Stomp the Yard, and appeared as a guest on the television series The O.C.. Other films Brown has appeared in, include This Christmas (2007), Takers (2010), Think Like a Man (2012), and Battle of the Year (2013). Throughout his career, Brown has won several awards, including 14 BET Awards, 5 Billboard Music Awards, and 3 Soul Train Music Awards. In late 2010, Tesfaye anonymously uploaded several songs to YouTube under the name “The Weeknd”. He released three nine-track mixtapes throughout 2011: House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence, which were critically acclaimed. In 2012, he released a compilation album Trilogy, thirty tracks consisting of the remastered mixtapes and three additional songs. It was released under Republic Records and his own label XO.

In 2013, he released his debut studio album Kiss Land, which was supported by the singles “Kiss Land” and “Live For”. His second album, Beauty Behind the Madness, which became his first number one album on the US Billboard 200, included the top-three single “Earned It” and produced the number-one singles “The Hills” and “Can’t Feel My Face”. The songs have simultaneously held the top three spots on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart, making him the first artist in history to achieve this.

The Weeknd has won two Grammy Awards and has been nominated for an Academy Award, as well as five Juno Awards. In September 2016, the release of the third album Starboy was announced along with the release of the single “Starboy”, which subsequently reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Tesfaye met producer Jeremy Rose, who had an idea for a dark R&B musical project called “The Weeknd”. After trying to pitch the idea to musician Curtis Santiago, Rose played one of his instrumentals for Tesfaye, who freestyled over it, and they began working on an album. He produced three songs – “What You Need”, “Loft Music”, and “The Morning” – and others that Tesfaye rapped on, which Rose ultimately scrapped. Rose let Tesfaye keep the tracks he had produced under the condition that he would ultimately be credited for them.

However, in December 2010, Tesfaye uploaded “What You Need”, “Loft Music” and “The Morning” to YouTube under the name “The Weeknd”, though his identity was initially unknown.[ The songs drew attention online through word of mouth, including a blog featuring the songs posted by rapper Drake, who also helped generate interest in The Weeknd. They subsequently received coverage from outlets such as Pitchfork Media and The New York Times.

On 21 March 2011, Tesfaye released the nine-track mixtape House of Balloons for free through his website. It featured production by Illangelo and Doc McKinney, although it did not credit Rose for his tracks. House of Balloons was met with critical acclaim, and was named as one of ten shortlisted nominees for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize.

In July, Tesfaye embarked on a tour and delivered his first performance at the Mod Club in Toronto. The hour-and-a-half long performance created buzz about him. His next performance took place at Toronto’s Molson Canadian Amphitheatre. He collaborated extensively with rapper Drake lending his vocals to several standout tracks on Drake’s Multi-Platinum Take Care album and appeared as one of the special guests to Drake’s second Annual OVO Fest on 31 July 2011.

During the summer, the press noted that The Weeknd refused to participate in interviews and chose to only communicate via Twitter. His second mixtape Thursday was released on 18 August 2011, as a free digital download from The Weeknd’s website, and was well received by critics. The Weeknd’s third mixtape, titled Echoes of Silence, was released on 21 December 2011. Upon this release, the three 2011 mixtapes were collectively known as the Balloons Trilogy, each receiving critical acclaim and growing Tesfaye’s fanbase.[/tab] [tab title=”Photos: “]

He has won ten Grammy Awards, one Golden Globe Award, and one Academy Award. In 2007, Legend received the Hal David Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Prior to the release of Legend’s debut album, his career gained momentum through a series of successful collaborations with already established artists. At various points in his career, Legend has sung in Magnetic Man’s “Getting Nowhere,” Kanye West’s “All of the Lights,” on Slum Village’s “Selfish,” and Dilated Peoples’ “This Way”. Other collaborative appearances include Jay Z’s “Encore”, backing vocals on Alicia Keys’ 2003 song “You Don’t Know My Name,” the Kanye West remix of Britney Spears’ “Me Against the Music,” and Fort Minor’s “High Road”.

Legend played piano on Lauryn Hill’s “Everything Is Everything”. For his solo work, he earned a Billboard Hot 100 number-one single with “All of Me” in 2013. He won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2015 for writing the song “Glory” from the film Selma.

In 2001, Devo Springsteen introduced Legend to then up-and-coming hip-hop artist Kanye West; Legend was hired to sing during the hooks of West’s music. After signing to West’s label, he chose his stage name from an idea that was given to him by poet J. Ivy, due to what he perceived as an “old-school sound”. J. Ivy stated, “I heard your music and it reminds me of that music from the old school. You sound like one of the legends. As a matter of fact, that’s what I’m going to call you from now on! I’m going to call you John Legend.” After J. Ivy continued to call him by the new moniker “John Legend,” others quickly caught on, including Kanye West. Despite Legend’s reluctance to change his stage name, he eventually announced his new artist name as John Legend.

Legend released his debut album, Get Lifted, on GOOD Music in December 2004. It featured production by Kanye West, Dave Tozer, and will.i.am, and debuted at number 7 on the US Billboard 200, selling 116,000 copies in its first week. It went on to sell 540,300 copies in the United States and was certified gold by the RIAA. An international success, Get Lifted also reached number one of the Norwegian Albums Chart and peaked within the top ten in the Netherlands and Sweden, resulting in worldwide sales of 850,000 copies.

Critically acclaimed, it won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album, and earned Legend another two nominal awards for Best New Artist and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Altogether, the album produced four singles, including debut single “Used to Love U,” which entered the top 30 of the New Zealand and UK Singles Chart, and Grammy Award-winning “Ordinary People” which peaked at 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. John Legend also co-wrote Janet Jackson’s “I Want You”, which was certified platinum and received a nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards.

A highly sought after collaborator, Legend was featured on several records the following years. He appeared on albums by Fort Minor, Sérgio Mendes, Jay Z, Mary J. Blige, The Black Eyed Peas, Stephen Colbert, Rich Boy, MSTRKRFT, Chemistry, and Fergie, among others. Legend also tentatively worked with Michael Jackson on a future album for which he had written one song.

In October 2006, Legend’s second album, Once Again, was released. Legend co-wrote and co-produced the bulk of the album, which saw him reteaming with West and will.i.am but also spawned production from Raphael Saadiq, Craig Street, Sa-Ra, Eric Hudson, Devo Springsteen, Dave Tozer and Avenue. Released to major commercial success, it reached number three on the Billboard 200 and debuted on top of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It was eventually certified platinum by the RIAA, and reached gold status in Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

At the 2007 Grammy Awards ceremony, the song “Heaven” was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, while lead single “Save Room” received a nod in the Best Male Pop Vocal category. Legend won a second Grammy that year for “Family Affair,” a collaboration with Sly & The Family Stone, Joss Stone and Van Hunt, for the former’s Different Strokes by Different Folks album.[/tab] [tab title=”Photos: “]

Known for sonically innovative, socially conscious, and sexually provocative records, elaborate stage shows, and high-profile television and film roles, she has been a prominent figure in popular culture for over 30 years.

The youngest child of the Jackson family, she began her career with the variety television series The Jacksons in 1976 and went on to appear in other television shows throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, including Good Times and Fame. After signing a recording contract with A&M Records in 1982, she became a pop icon following the release of her third studio album Control (1986).

Her collaborations with record producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis incorporated elements of rhythm and blues, funk, disco, rap, and industrial beats, which led to crossover success in popular music. In addition to recognition for the innovation in her records, choreography, music videos, and prominence on radio airplay and MTV, she was acknowledged as a role model for her socially conscious lyrics.

In 1991 Jackson signed the first of two record-breaking multimillion-dollar contracts with Virgin Records, establishing her as one of the highest paid artists in the industry. Her debut album under the label, Janet (1993), saw her develop a public image as a sex symbol as she began to explore sexuality in her work. That same year, she appeared in her first starring film role in Poetic Justice; she has continued to act in feature films.

By the end of the 1990s, she was the second most successful recording artist of the decade. The release of her seventh studio album All for You (2001) coincided with a celebration of her impact on popular music as the inaugural MTV Icon. After parting ways with Virgin she released her tenth studio album, Discipline (2008), her first and only album with Island Records. In 2015 she partnered with BMG Rights Management to launch her own record label, Rhythm Nation, and released her eleventh studio album Unbreakable the same year.

Having sold over 100 million records, Jackson is one of the best-selling artists in the history of contemporary music. She has amassed an extensive catalog, with singles such as “Nasty”, “Rhythm Nation”, “That’s the Way Love Goes”, “Together Again” and “All for You”; she holds the record for the most consecutive top 10 hits on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart by a female artist with 18.

In 2016, Billboard placed her number seven on its list of the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists, and in 2010 ranked her fifth among the “Top 50 R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of the Past 25 Years”. In December 2016, the magazine named her the second most successful dance club artist of all-time. One of the world’s most awarded artists, her longevity, records and achievements reflect her influence in shaping and redefining the scope of popular music.
