The Documentary 2 is pieced together too flawlessly. FLAW-LESS-LY.
I say this because, itâs the truth. If you look at The Gameâs past work, then youâd know that he always had bars (âDreamsâ, âOne Bloodâ, âWestcoast Storyâ, âHow We Doâ) but some mightâve forgotten due to his hiatusâ and occasional features. Itâs almost as if he was quietly grinding out this project while everyone wasnât expecting too much. Well, the west coast got another W with this one- The Documentary 2 is such a good f!ckinâ look.
The project jumps off with âOn Meâ ft. Kendrick Lamar and âStep Upâ ft. Deja Loaf & Sha Sha .. bruh. The flow from both K.Dot and Game are perrrrrfect while Erykah Baduâs âOn and Onâ sample bumps in the background. Then you got this hook with a-capella vocals and nasty word play .. Itâs simply smooth. Super hip. No other way to interpret it. Switching into âStep Upâ. Pacâs âRound and Roundâ sample with hints of Brandyâs âI Wanna Be Down' plus Gameâs style of rapping ..
About the bars .. theyâre very simple and straightforward, but itâs authentic Game. Itâs almost as if he picked up exactly where he left of the first time around with The Documentary. Like I mentioned before, we havenât gotten a whole project from Game in a good minute, so hearing him speak about his life now is refreshing. You also get an idea of where heâs taken his music creatively.
Documentary 2 has skits, a collection of prime features, a slew of quotables that you can tweet on your timeline, soulful instrumentals (doesnât sound like your usual west coast album, I love that) .. I pretty much knew by track 11 that this was A1 album material .. hadnât skipped a track yet.
Donât sleep on rappers that donât say much.Â
They drop their new material after the career hype dies down, then have to prove themselves to fans and listeners all over again. Not many pull this off, but itâs impressive and exciting to see it happen to Game. Matter of fact, Iâm impressed with everything Iâve gotten from this. Song placement is perfect. Bars are strong. Messages behind the music are relevant and important. Momentum is consistent.Â
This project is in a league of itâs own.
Iâve always liked Gameâs sound, but my recognition for his music has definitely increased significantly. One of the top 5 hottest releases of 2015 ladies and gents.
