Our O4W summer menu is in full swing. Clockwise from top center: Old Pal, Alon's plain croissant, Eggy breakfast toast, Finca el Puente pour over, The Gem Bakery's olive oil orange cake, Creature Comforts Athena on tap, Lox and cucumber toast.
Two of the upstairs Borondos found their way back to Atlanta Daily World. To be enjoyed indefinitely at Condesa Auburn.
Octavian Stan and Daniela Staiculescu, two of the owners at Condesa, are dedicated to a mission of bringing culture to your taste buds—yes, you. The couple, originally from Romania, bought Condesa three years ago in order to provide something special and intentionally delicious to the city of Atlanta. Daniela is a firm believer in cooking from scratch and with the most local and organic products available (as local as her own front AND back yards) , and Octav is a firm believer in quality everything, from cocktails to espresso shots. Both are passionate about making their city and community more vibrant and are firm supporters of local small businesses. They share the belief that Condesa’s purpose is to offer the "whoa" to people who are new to the experience of tasting quality. Even before he became passionate about coffee and began to study it, Octav knew the impact a coffee shop could have on community. Shortly thereafter, he discovered and fell in love with Counter Culture coffee roasters, and he and Daniela bought Condesa. Although each of them has a separate career, owning a coffee shop has given them the opportunity to inspire people, make a difference, encourage urbanization, and cause you to question mediocrity you find elsewhere. They're also super friendly; you'll find them in the shop enjoying their cappuccinos or old-fashioneds, and they're always happy to tell you the story of how Condesa came to be.

Remember our weekly posts with our awesome employees a while ago? Now that the Auburn location is up and running, we want to introduce to you the remaining three owners of Condesa. This week, just because today is his birthday, we present to you Amin. @AminHRida
Amin Rida grew up in Beirut, Lebanon and Atlanta is his second home. Amin lived in Miami, Washington DC, Brooklyn and currently in San Francisco Bay Area working for a technology startup in Silicon Valley. Amin is optimistic and energetic (even with no coffee consumption), values family and friends, is an entrepreneur at heart who loves to start new things. Loves a coffee in the morning (Sun dried Ethiopian is his favorite coffee) and a bourbon in (some) evenings. Coffee is a more than a drink to Amin, it played a part in his upbringing where he started drinking Turkish coffee with his mother at the age of 14. Amin has always loved coffee and dreamed about owning a European Style espresso and/or wine bar. His partners Octavian and Daniela helped making his dream a reality in 2011 and soon afterwards his brother Moe joined the team. Also during his last 2 years of graduate school, Amin spent most of his time writing his PhD dissertation at Octane West side, which was his indoctrination (by Daniela) into the specialty coffee world in general and Counter Culture Coffee in particular (there was a lot of day dreaming during those writing sessions...) Amin loves traveling, cooking, skiing, and playing tennis. Amin and Moe are in the early stages of planning a trip to Central America to discover and explore coffee farms.
He can draw and illustrate, he’s new to Atlanta land, his wit is dry, and he’s good at coffee. Chris Noerr is this week’s Condesan (new word, meaning “one who works at Condesa”.) With a BFA from SCAD (in Savannah), Chris has spent the last 5 years pursuing the art of coffee while gracing the walls, the tip jars, the refrigerators, and random inconspicuous places with his drawings. If you’ve been in the shop in the last two weeks, you saw a jolly old St. Nicholas drawn on our tip jar—c/o Chris. If it wasn’t really, really good, we wouldn’t mention it. Chris approaches life passionately. He just started working here, but is nearly ready to get his barista certification from Counter Culture. He is engaged to a lovely lady. He has made our food better at Condesa (the soup we just started serving? His doing and recipe.) Chris loves discovering new restaurants in this, his new city, including different coffee shops. (Come on, we love our Condesa, but we totally have a heart for other incredible coffee locale.) If you ask Chris to tell you something significant about himself, he will say something like, “I’m a rowdy dude with a bombastic attitude.” All right then. Come one, come all, and see for yourself. He's a good one.

Makaela Davis is another awesome female addition at Condesa. Her latest hair color gives you a pretty good idea of how vibrant and fun she is, so don't be surprised if she is your new favorite person after she makes your coffee. She is passionate about doing things well, including coffee, and she is nearly done with her certification classes at Counter Culture. Makaela drinks her coffee by Chemex, but she sometimes sneaks a cappuccino too. Some fun things about her: she runs half marathons; she is an ar-teest and makes lovely sculptures, pottery, and paintings (we can’t wait to see her latte art!); she studies animation and graphic design at Savannah College of Art and Design; and she has a cat named Casper that she is particularly fond of. Also—she hails from Jacksonville, FL, and highly recommends getting a cup of coffee at Bold Bean if ever you find yourself way down south (if Atlanta is not south enough.)
The Emily Rose brings the depth and complexity of a cocktail to espresso drinks. To the coffee essence are added orange bitters, rosewater and simple syrup. This delightful lift to the spirits comes from a sort of cross-cultural pollination found only at Condesa.
Steph Gilman is a newer addition to our Condesa team and brings a healthy amount of estrogen and frilly aprons to the macho mix. Her passions include coffee, traveling, running, rock climbing, her dog named Mina, and writing. Steph spends half of her time at Condesa and the other half as an editorial assistant at a magazine. She wakes up every morning having dreamed of iced coffee and espresso, and Condesa is her favorite place to both make and partake of these delicacies. When she is not behind the counter, you can likely find Steph being a customer at Condesa drinking a cappuccino, playing in rivers with her dog, or running around Atlanta and attempting not to die on all the hills. She also enjoys discovering the best coffee shops whenever she travels, and among her favorites are Old City Java in Knoxville, TN and Peregrine Espresso in Washington, DC (note: they both serve Counter Culture Coffee.)
Isabel Villaume was the first girl to work at Condesa in quite some time. She has been here the longest of the current females on staff, and without her, Condesa would just be a community of misogynists. Totally kidding. Isabel is our peanut barista, coming in at five feet, four inches tall, but she can make a mean cuppa, and she knows her coffee. Isabel favors the finer things in life, like short americanos, craft beer (Three Taverns White Hops – on our menu – and Terrapin Recreation Ale are her faves), and shopping at Goodwill. She is obsessed with her similarly tiny Shitzu/Chihuahua mix named Doge and unabashedly identifies herself as a crazy dog lady. While she does not yet have her Barista certification with Counter Culture coffee, she is on her way there and nearly done with her classes. When she’s not working at Condesa, Isabel loves to go antiquing and roam the floors of Ikea, longing to buy everything.
A dusting of nutmeg finishes this shaken blend of espresso, half and half, orange bitters, simple syrup and vodka called Dirty Russian.
We introduce to you Justin Church, aka Chavez. He’s only Chavez to his closer friends though, so maybe just stick with Justin. He is from Denver Colorado; the oldest of seven kids; an expert at finding the best deals on organic artisan cheeses and produce in Atlanta; and a lover of film, craft beer, and his deer-headed Chihuahua named Cooper. Other than that, he’s pretty uninteresting. Justin is studying cinematography at the Art Institute of Atlanta after previously working in industrial radiology and realizing he preferred to use the right side of his brain. He is also a certified Barista with Counter Culture Coffee and is perfecting a cold brew coffee that we will be integrating into our menu soon. He does dabble in the art of cocktail making, so we highly suggest you try out his addition to our cocktail menu – the “His and Hers Margarita.”

Meet Moe Reda. Pronounced “Mo”. Easy enough. Moe is one of the four owners of Condesa. You will find him behind the counter, perfecting/taste-testing our cocktails and making your lattes awesome. Moe originates from Beirut (it’s not just a band), Lebanon and came to the states in 2009. He has a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech, which he now only uses by examining the aerodynamic qualities of the coffee bean and increasing the thermodynamic performance of the espresso machine (sounds legit, right?). Coffee is his first love, and he is a Certified Barista through Counter Culture Coffee. When he is not latte-arting, you will find Moe flying planes (he has his private pilot’s license), skiing, and drinking an Old Fashioned. You should definitely let him make you one.
Meet Monsieur Manuel Pacheco (Manny P for short.) He’s not French; he’s actually from Lima, Peru and has been in the states since 2002. (Another fun fact: he’s ¼ Chinese.) This fine fellow has been working in the coffee industry for four years and brings lots of talent to the Condesa team. Manny P got his degree from Georgia State in Art History, and he has quite an affinity for modern and contemporary art. (His latte art is lovely as well.) He is on his way to getting his barista certification from Counter Culture, and his coffee beverage of choice is a good old shot of espresso. Manny P enjoys frequenting other coffee shops in the cities where he travels, and his favorite spot besides Condesa is Little Collin’s in New York City (ironically—near MoMA, where you can also find Manny P if ever he is in NYC.) Aside from coffee and art, Manny P enjoys spending time with his cat named Spooky Mulder (he also enjoys watching the X-Files—imagine that), driving his Jeep Wrangler, and consistently pronouncing Z’s as S’s; it’s kind of amasing.
