'Chaotic, confident woman who isn't afraid of men' has got to be one of my favourite genders
if emma bloom and nancy wheeler from stranger things were in the same universe i highly believe they would be best friends
in honour of heartstopper coming out yesterday, i would just like to say that i just KNOW that horace would absolutely ADORE the show and would force the other kids to watch it with him
The Peculiar Children When They’re Sick
Millard- Millard DOES NOT NOTICE. It’s a problem. Did you see how chill he was when he got shot? A cold is nothing! He’s fine. The only thing this boy cares about is his research and it completely distracts him from his personal needs. Luckily whenever he gets sick he sounds sick, like he gets super stuffy and stuff like that. But he is a nightmare to try and keep in bed because he keeps sneaking out to look at pigs or something.
Emma- It’s dangerous. Whenever she’s sick she has NO CONTROL over her peculiarity. Sneezing? Tiny fire bursts out of her nose. Coughing? Literal dragon. Vomiting? LITERALLY WREATHED IN FLAMES. Miss. P sets up a (mostly) fireproof room in the basement and she just chills down there so she doesn’t set the house on fire (but there has been a few close calls). She is super emotional though. She cries a lot over absolutely nothing and no-one wants to take care of her, because they will come down stairs and give her water and she’s super needy and cuddly, but then they will come down like ten minutes later and she’s screaming and throwing shit at them.
Jacob- Jacob gets sick SO EASILY. He gets whiny and irritable when he’s ill and retreats to his room with snacks and Netflix. Everyone feels kind of bad for him because every time ANY illness is going around he is bound to catch it. He is so whiny though, he’s the kind of sick person who asks for one type of soup and then cries and complains that it’s not the right brand. He also uses his susceptibility to illnesses to get out of class and work a lot, like he pretends to be sick SO OFTEN and his parents just let him stay home from school.
Bronwyn- Literally everyone panics and takes s u c h good care of her. Like she takes care of them all and this is their chance to pay her back. If she sneezes someone is there with tissues and soups instantly. Bronwyn is pretty chill when she is sick, she sleeps a lot and is pretty out of it the whole time. She gets better pretty quickly and then does like… double what a person should do in a day because she feels like she wasted a day and needs to make up for it.
Fiona- Clingy and drowsy. Fiona just looks so sad when she’s sick everyone feels bad. She cuddles with Hugh a lot and takes a lot of naps. She also gets really irritable when she is sick. Miss. Peregrine won’t let her go outside but she just wants to grow some flowers, and she gets all huffy and mad at Miss. P.
Hugh- PANIC TIME. HIS BEE’S!!!! WHAT IF THEY GET SICK TOO???? Hugh always releases his bee’s into like the yard or something while he’s sick, just in case, and always gets nervous and wants to check on them. After he knows his bee’s are safe he is just so pathetic when he’s sick. He gets grumpy without his bee’s and just wraps himself in a cocoon of blankets and eats an unhealthy amount of honey.
Enoch- He’s not sick he is fine and no-one needs to know. Enoch is the most infuriating person when he is sick because there is NO way he is just staying in bed all day. He has people to insult and corpses to bring back to life and hates to be babied. He does not tell anyone and keeps sneaking out of bed when someone finds out. There has definitely been times where he straight up passed out because he refused to tell anyone he was sick.
Horace- Before he got his peculiarity (so like when he was 8 and younger) he was SUCH A DRAMA QUEEN, but his peculiarity goes haywire and it’s really stressful on everyone involved. So, Horace doesn’t get sick very often but when he does he gets really sick and it is Very Bad. He is just constantly having nightmares and visions (all bad) and thrashing around and crying. When he isn’t having a nightmare he is barely coherent and just like a sweaty, sobbing, anxious mess and it’s really bad. He like, can’t eat anything because he is either dreaming or having a panic attack and everyone feels super bad for him and are really nice to him once he gets better.
Olive- Drowsy and unfocused, like once Olive get sick she is like a zombie. Its disconcerting honestly when this literal ball of bouncy sunshine turns into a like a floating corpse (Enoch claims she acts exactly like when he raises a dead person but no-one is sure if he is exaggerating or not). Her peculiarity also goes haywire. Even if she is wearing her shoes and wrapped in the weighted blankets on her bed that let her sleep without her shoes she still floats everywhere. Bronwyn is constantly anxious every time Olive gets sick. Whenever she sneezes she rockets up to the ceiling NO MATTER WHAT.
Claire- Wants to be like Enoch and just pretends she isn’t sick because she doesn’t want to worry anyone, but her backmouth is whiny. Claire also looks really sick whenever she gets ill, so she can’t hide for long. She literally gets treated like a princess though because she’s the baby and always looks so sad. Her backmouth is also really loud and growls and wails so everyone thinks she feels sicker than she actually does. She is constantly wrapped in fluffy blankets and everyone gets her whatever she wants.
ITS HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT I FORGOT TO ADD SUNSHINE BOY VICTOR BRUNTLEY SO HERE WE GO- Victor has levels of sick, usually he completely ignores that he’s sick and takes care of himself because he doesn’t want to be an inconvenience. But if he is r e a l l y sick he is in such a bad mood all week. He gets super snippy and sarcastic. Bronwyn will be like ‘how are you feeling Vic?’ And he is completely deadpan like ‘I’m dying Wyn, say your goodbyes, I am already dead.’ He just holed up in a completely dark room and hides under blankets.
heyy….sorry for being mia for so long LOL enjoy this post because idk when I’ll post again also i didn’t know where to put hugh in this table 💀
Shush! I loved both the book trilogy and the movie so I ended up sorta mashing up the cast and the original novel/graphic novel descriptions together to make this mess of a scribble.
Still figuring out the style. Anyhoo, have a nice day folks.
Finally a take on the girls and a quick one at that. Similar to the first one, I messed around with both the movie and books/graphic novels to get this mess of a scribble. Shh! I hope ya’ll have a good day. Moving on!
there’s just something about groups of strange orphaned kids…
shh theyre on a date
Random peculiarities downsides! Book version!!
Emma
She often overheats so much she collapses. Yes she's fire proof, not temperature proof. It almost always feels like she has a small fever brewing, and pressure behind the eyes and nosebleeds torment her if she uses her peculiarity too much.
On a bad day, people can't stand to be around her. Not that they don't absolutely love her to bits, it's just that they physically find it to be uncomfortable standing within a certain distance with the heat she's emmiting from her skin. As someone with abandonment issues, this hurts her very much.
She also cannot lay on flammable materials, so she either has to sit on the wooden floor or stand most of the day.
When miss p suggested a metal bed she cried so hard she threw up.
Most times she's not even aware of the heat, though. So one time she came up behind Claire and hugged her suddenly, only for the little girl to let out the most terrible scream. Emma had burnt the shape of her hands faintly onto Claires skin, and still hasn't forgiven herself.
Claire loves her though, and drew her pictures for when she was sad about it.
Jacob
Hes not very good at figuring out what's a normal stomach ache and what's a "hollow" ache. He frequently panics over this.
Always on edge. Due to the rest of peculiardom relying on his powers, he believes the only way to keep his friends safe is to keep constant vigilance.
Some days he's so snappy and protective he has to be removed from the household until he calms down. Not in a cruel way, but once when Enoch tried to leave the house Jacob yanked him back and told him to sit down and stay still, they were still out there.
He ended up scaring most of the young ones, and even Enoch turned wary of him for a while after.
Panics at the sight of shadows. Every time. He sees a shadow of branches moving and thinks that he lost his peculiarity, and that all his friends are about to die because of him. Nothing ever happens, but then he feels stupid and restless.
Bronwyn
It goes without saying that this girl can pick up huge boulders without breaking a sweat. So when it comes to ordinary objects or people, she almost always forgets her own strength.
She always tries to be mindful of others, but unfortunately, due to having her ability most of her life, she's unable to gauge the amount of strength it would take to not hurt each person.
She gets confused alot. A touch that wouldn't hurt Jacob would be harmful to Claire, and a soft punch that wouldn't make Enoch laugh would have Horace flinching away with a bruised arm. For someone who hates hurting her friends, this causes her to break away every so often.
Waking up in the morning she actually has to get used to the feeling of her strength, so she wakes up an hour before everyone else at 5am. She doesn't like being alone, but she would rather be alone than snap her door handle again.
Regularly forgets that people don't like being picked up. She did it to Victor all the time just because she could. She tried it with Horace and nearly launched him straight up into the air because she couldn't FEEL him. Its a good thing he held onto her hand, or he would have gotten hurt.
Enoch
Doesn't actually like his peculiarity that much, because people think he's creepy and gross. Always covered in blood and preservation fluid and mud, but how else is he meant to practise? Emma can practise setting things on fire, Fiona can practise growing huge hedges based on people, yet he's shamed on for practising something he can't control?
It takes a lot out of him to raise the dead. He's constantly lending his own living energy and doing a cycle from his own body to the dead. This means their energy mixes, and leaves him feeling lethargic and brittle. Like a corpse.
Hates dead things. He's just used to them. People assume he kills most of the animals he has in his basement, but he actually goes through the forest near their house and collects the ones who have died naturally. After every reset, the corpses are back, and he does it all again.
He interanlly panics whenever someone refers to him as cruel or disgusting. He can't help it. Same as Horace can't control his nightmares, or olive her levitation. Yes, his peculiarity isn't pretty. That's not his fault. Immediate dislike for Jacob when he saw the look of morbid disgust on his face when he saw his clay soldiers fighting.
Sometimes feels intense guilt when reanimating someone. His belief is that when they're dead, they should be left dead. May that be in heaven, hell, or somewhere else. It is not his place to interfere with the next life.
It's why he refuses to summon Victor. He likes it where he is. No matter how much Bron cries about it.
Horace
His whole peculiarity is a downside to be honest.
Every so often though, he'll have this huge massive fits that can last for days. He doesn't see his family coming towards him, he sees his old family. Wights. Hollows. Monsters. Strangers. Garbling words and fires and pain. It's better to leave him alone until he's a tad calmer before getting him water.
He'll think everyone's a threat, will mutter and jump up and flinch if someone reaches for something near him, will bang the back of his head against the wall without feeling it, and will call people by the names of the strangers he sees in his head.
Will hurt himself by scratching and headbanging, but sometimes he screams and screams and screams because to him? His dreams are real.
That means the fire that is burning up the room is actually burning his skin, too. Everyone knows Horace dies in these dreams a couple times an episode, and it breaks their hearts to hear him praying to anyone out there he'll end up somewhere nice.
He Sees hallucinations, mostly dead people, and can and will have lengthy calm conversations with them of how they died. He can't see his family through the horrific things his mind is showing him, so he believes he is alone. He's not, though.
Claire and olive aren't allowed near him in these episodes, after bursting into tears after he was having a conversation with a woman who was burnt to death and had her skin melted away by her husband who then killed himself after.
Will have a huge migrain and smaller visions coming out of this, with regular nosebleeds for a while after.
(Millard and miss p searched for the name he had been talking to, later on. Shocked, they found a singular article deep in the library in devils acre about the murder, a place Horace would never had found it. They don't know what to do with this information).
Olive
Olive sometimes has trouble in thinking she's safe. She'll have days where she's bouncing around like a little astronaut on her rope without her shoes and then other days she'll be hiding under her bed with her shoes on, rope, doors and windows locked shut, lest she fly away.
She sometimes forgets to check the state of the rope she's using. She's had some very close calls.
Has trouble playing games like football/soccer, and can never go swimming with the rest of her family. Even on very hot days.
Can't keep up with her family very well, it's why bronywyn carries her everywhere. Her very chunky lead boots drag her down and hurt her ankles and feet, resulting in rolled ankles, burns and sore scrapes.
Claire
She used to love the feeling of having her hair curled and braided by her mother, but since developing her mouth she doesn't have that luxury.
She bit the middle finger right off her mothers hand when she was four.
Everywhere she goes smells like rotten meat, thanks to her back mouth. It only likes raw meat, and refuses to be brushed with toothpaste. If it isn't fed, however, it will rip the hair from her head and eat that instead.
Will feel very sick and will be bedridden sometimes from both mouths sharing the same stomach. Raw meat isn't good for a five year old little girl.
Has to be careful when washing or shampooing her hair, as wet hair can get sucked into her back mouth. Nobody is quite sure of the physics here, but if hair goes into her backmouth it feels like it's clogging her front mouth, and will choke her until someone rushes in and bravely rips it out of the sharp toothed beast.
Has a huge metal muzzle that she must wear to sleep "comfortably". It's not comfortable, despite the pillow padding. Her neck cricks, sometimes the metal pinches, and it weighs her whole head down. It's better than her pillow being eaten, though.
Sometimes, maybe once a year, her backmouth will try to speak.
And it's horrific.
People live in fear of it happening, and when it does happen people are left disgusted and shaken.
The sound of a grown man gurgling through unintelligible words shouldn't come from the body of a little girl.
Hugh
Gets stung repeatedly by his bees, and even sometimes when he eats. They get angry, living in his stomach, when food comes down into their home. He tries to make sure EVERY SINGLE bee is completely out before he eats, and this can take a while, but every so often a straggler stays behind, and stings the inside of his stomach during dinner.
It's excruciating.
He'll often jump up from the table as if he had been shot and vomit up both the food and the bee in pain. He'll spend the next day whimpering in bed as his stomach acid works against the sting and the stinger of the bee left inside his body.
Another thing is he could be talking to one of his friends, when a bee will randomly come along and sting them with no prompt. Then he'll catch them avoiding him the next couple of days. It hurts.
He'll be terrified and clamp his mouth shut against his bees for a couple of days afterwards.
Coughs up huge lumps of random honeycomb. It's hard, and cold, and uncomfortable, and it hurts his throat coming up.
Fiona
Will accidently make poisonous or stinging plants by trying to copy pictures of flowers she sees in books or the acre.
Had a scare when olive came back from playing in the garden struggling to breath with red and yellow spots up her neck, caused by a beautiful pink plant fiona had grown the night before.
Whenever she cries onto the ground, it acts like some sort of crazy fertiliser? And the plants and trees that grow are terrible hard to cut or knock down, crashing through windows and cracking walls, born by her grief. That's what made the greenroom. They couldn't remove the small forest, so they built around it and made something beautiful from her destruction.
Can and will cough up leaves whenever her body feels like it. The less she drinks the more it happens, and the less she drinks the more hard and dead the leaves become, causing small cuts in her throat. The more she drinks, the opposite happens.
Always, ALWAYS needs to be outside. And in the night she has to have her window open. She doesn't know why.
Feels so much pressure in having to be one of the soul sustenance of her family while living in the loop. What if her crops grew rotten? Or she lost her peculiarity? They got bored of her food? It was bland? What if they starved?
(After she fell from the cliff, one of the trees below softened her fall. After being captured by the wights, she wished it hadnt).
Millard
Sometimes panics he isn't real. He can walk into a room and not be acknowledged, so he constantly makes noise to see if somebody will refer to him. To make sure he hasn't disappeared completely. Is absolutely terrified of speaking one day and nobody answering.
Will overhear anyone else talking shit or complaining about him. His feelings are always hurt, but doesn't want to be seen as a creep when he tells them he was spying on them.
Misses the way he used to look. His hair, freckles, the way everybody could tell his short legs were gearing up for a massive growthspurt. He wonders how he would look now, and cries silently as he realises he forgot the colour of his eyes.
Mourns the fact he can probably never have a relationship. Nobody- In his experience- wants to be in a relationship with an invisible man, and a relationship between two invisible people who wouldn't know where the other stood would be frustrating and hellish.
It's why he felt euphoric when he met lily. Then fell headfirst back to earth when he realised she was normal, and couldn't tell her family she was in a relationship with somebody they could never meet.
How I think the different Mphfpc characters would react when you came out to them
*Disclaimer: This is just my opinion, you may disagree*
Jacob: You're definitely terrified to tell him cause he's a straight white man™ but he'd just say 'ok' and move on
Enoch: He'd be that guy who would say 'ok as long as you don't hit on me'. He'd also be on Jacobs level of 'ok cool it doesn't really matter'
Millard: Would get excited and tell you about all famous lgbtq+ peculiars in history, would definitely recommend some kind of book with lgbtq+ stories in them
Claire: Wouldn't really know what you were talking about. Would proceed to get very excited when you tell her that she could have a girlfriend
Horace: He already knew because he'd dreamt it but he hadn't said anything because he wanted you to tell him when you were ready. He's very supportive and says that he loves you no matter what
Hugh: Would assume that everyone else knows too and may accidentally out you to people, but he'd be very sorry
Emma: Hugs you a lot and is very excited on your behalf, asks a lot of questions about how you knew e.t.c
Fiona: Listens when you need to vent, makes you feel completely comfortable with telling her anything
Bronwyn: You'd end up having to correct her after she accidentally misgenders/assumes the wrong sexuality for you (see: when she says Emma and Jacob are in love in map of days). She'd apologise and feel embarrassed, probably over corrects herself
Olive: Will threaten to hurt anyone who is homophobic towards you, and is almost aggressively positive
Miss P: 'Oh I knew that'. It doesn't matter to her, she makes sure you feel accepted and if anything, loves you more now. (also would probably say 'me too')
LOL hi happy new year aomfs i hope 2022 will treat all of you well! enjoy my first post of 2022 x
(yes i am aware the movie is completely different from the books but you get the point)
jacob when millard got shot: alright, millard, i need you to rate your pain for me.
millard: 0 / 10.
jacob: …what? you literally just got shot.
millard: 0 / 10 as in ‘i don’t recommended’.
jacob:
millard: it’s not very gucci.
