2013 NFL Awards Predicitons
Guess who's back once again... *points to myself* to give you what I believe should win the NFL's most prestigious honors awards at the end of every season. This year was weird because a LOT of star players were injured; Aaron Rodgers for starts (Sumbitch ruined my fantasy lineup) [I got in the playoffs by the skin of my teeth]. but that's neither here nor there. [Dude came back & won the NFC North] But let's not waste anymore time... Coach of the Year Dude, really. do I have to elaborate on who this should be.... Ladies and gentlemen look no further than former Philadelphia Eagles head coach & new Kansas City Chiefs Andy Reid. Andy Reid was hired in Kansas City & turned a team full of misguided talents into a winning team. The Chiefs are 5th seed in the playoffs. They were undefeated (8-0) until they saw the Denver Broncos. There's no doubt that Andy Reid has proven that he is the best coach this year. Offensive Player of the Year I may be wrong but that's the whole reason why I write this every year. But this year's Offensive Player of the Year is Jamaal Charles. Yeah, I'm riding that Chiefs bandwagon for this blog. Check this stat line ok: 259 carries, 1287 rushing yards, 12 rushing TDs, 70 catches, 693 yards, 7 receiving TDs Charles was THE focal point of the Chiefs putting points on the board this year. (Reid used Charles like how he did [Brian] Westbrook when he was in Philly) Offensive Rookie of the Year I always find it difficult to pick the standout rookies from each side of the ball. But the standout rookie on offense is Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy. Even before Aaron Rodgers went down with a broken collarbone, the Packers had already known that they did not want to be one dimensional offense. Aaron Rodgers couldn't do it all all the time. Eddie Lacy stepped up in his rookie campaign & finished the year 8th in rushing yards (1178 yds.) & 2nd in the NFL in rushing TDs (11). During Aaron Rodgers' time being injured & the revolving door of QBs kept changing, Eddie Lacy remained constant & reliable force on offense. Lacy was a big part in the win against the Bears to take the NFC North & a playoff berth. Deacon Jones Award Ok so for some reason, the NFL decided to make an award for the sack title. (Hell if that's the case, make one for the leader of INTs too. DBs don't get enough love in the NFL. Name that the Ronnie Lott Award While you're at it, make an actual rushing title. Shit, name it the Jim Brown Award) But yeah this is a no brainer. The Deacon Jones Award will go to Robert Mathis. Mathis beat out Robert Quinn by a half a sack. [It would've been so appropriate for him to win that award because Deacon Jones played on the Los Angeles Rams] And since we're talking about the other side of the ball now. I'm going to switch to the defense. Defensive Rookie of the Year This one is pretty easy too but came from an unsuspecting team who struggled all year. This year Defensive Rookie of the Year is Kiko Alonso. I looked at this kid's stat line & DAMN is it impressive. Check it: 159 tackles (3rd in the NFL), 9 pass defenses, 4 INTs, 1 forced fumble, 2 sacks. In his ROOKIE year (his FIRST year in the NFL) If the Bills keep this kid around, they can actually become a contender in the new few years. Defensive Player of the Year This is hard, this award is very hard to give out. This award goes the player who was complete on defense this year. Hell if it was up to me, I'd give it to the whole Seattle Seahawks team (bailed me out many a day on my fantasy team) I really hope I get this right but this year's Defensive Player of the Year is Earl Thomas. There were too many players (specifically on the Seahawks) who put in so much work on defense. That defense held Drew Brees under 200 yards passing. Everyone pays attention to Richard Sherman because he's the loud mouth of the team (but the NFL leader in INTs this year with 8) But take a step back & peep #23. It would be very hard to say any safety in the NFL is better than him once you see this stat line: 105 tackles, 5 INTs, 2 forced fumbles, 13 pass defenses. Thomas can do it all & quietly might I add. but what else do you expect form a safety from Texas? Comeback Player of the Year There weren't many players who got hurt last year, came back this year & made an impact. But the story of Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis convinces me that he has to be recipient of this award. Thomas Davis had 3 ACL surgeries on the same leg. After sustaining the same injury 3 times & still coming back & became a big part of the success of the Carolina Panthers' defense. Just check this out: 123 tackles, 8 pass defenses, 2 INTs & a forced fumble. I don't believe there is any doubt that he will be the Comeback Player of the Year. Most Valuable Player Man this is the easiest one to write about. This is unanimous. If not, I'm gonna watch the PGA Tour & spam all other previous PGA Tours on Netflix. This year's Most Valuable Player is Peyton Manning. Name a single season passing record Manning didn't break this year..... Oh ok. Peyton Manning broke 2 records this year held by Tom Brady & Drew Brees. Peyton Manning was playing this season on rookie. Manning tied the single game TD record (7), the season passing TD record (54) & the passing yardage record (5477). Thus he made the Broncos the highest scoring team in NFL history. I'm done.
