Today is a solemn day. I voted to impeach President Donald Trump, consistent with my oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. It's a tragedy my Republican colleagues will not speak up for rule of law and against presidential abuse of power. History will judge them harshly. by Congressman Scott Peters
Met with Shinichi Iida, Minister for Economic Affairs at the Japan Embassy to discuss the global climate crisis and the need for American leadership. He agrees the world is looking to the United States to do our part to reduce emissions and act on climate. https://ift.tt/35AUV85
In our nation's history, thousands have gone into battle to fight for our democracy. In contrast, my Republican colleagues will not speak up for rule of law or against presidential abuse of power. That's the tragedy of today's events. History will judge them harshly. by Congressman Scott Peters
Although 90 percent of Americans support universal background checks, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell – the only person with the authority to bring these measures forward – refuses to bring these bills to the Senate floor for a vote. On Friday, September 13th, I delivered over 700 letters sent in from San Diegans to Majority Leader McConnell. It is my hope they will finally compel him to act to save lives. by Congressman Scott Peters
Visited Challenger Middle School in Mira Mesa to speak with 8th graders about what it’s like to work in Congress. They had great questions about environmental policy and how to be engaged in our democracy. https://ift.tt/34h2M9m
High prescription drug prices are an issue largely experienced by Americans across the nation. While H.R. 3 will help combat these expensive costs, questions remain about the unknown effects this legislation will have on private institutions focused on innovation, research, and development. San Diego is home to a number of small and emerging organizations working to create cutting-edge technology to improve the quality and accessibility of biopharmaceuticals. My amendment ensures that we continue to support and strengthen the network of capital that sustains innovation. It is my hope that Congress acts to lower prescription drug prices while also maintaining incentives for medical innovation. by Congressman Scott Peters
A decorated veteran, Senior Chief Petty Officer Kenton Stacy was injured in the line of duty while on tour in Syria after completing one tour in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. SCPO Stacy specialized in explosive ordinance disposal and understood that every assignment came with an extremely high level of risk. Two years ago, an explosive device detonated while his team was on a mission, leaving SCPO Stacy paralyzed and unable to speak. His sacrifice and dedication and to protecting our country is something that can never be repaid. We thank and honor him for his service. by Congressman Scott Peters
Ensign Albert Hickman was 21 years old this year when his airplane malfunctioned during a routine training mission in San Diego, CA, plummeting straight towards an elementary school playground. Instead of ejecting from the jet, Hickman heroically chose to remain in the aircraft to guide it to a nearby canyon, sacrificing his own life to save the lives of 750 children. As we recognize the 60th anniversary of his death, Hickman's courage and bravery serve as a reminder of the ideal by which we all should live by. by Congressman Scott Peters
2nd Lt. Travis B. Wilke was a model citizen who embodied the values of service and sacrifice to his nation. In November, Lt. Wilke and fellow pilot Lt. Col. John Kincade tragically lost their lives when their plane crashed during landing formation. A veteran and native San Diegan, our community honors Lt. Wilke and our thoughts go out to the Air Force Academy, his colleagues at Vance Air Force Base, and his family. by Congressman Scott Peters
I joined @speakerpelosi to announce an agreement on #USMCA with stronger labor and environmental standards. Mexico and Canada are San Diego's top two trading partners and I look forward to working with my colleagues to move the final deal through the House. https://ift.tt/38DljjA
I joined @speakerpelosi to share our takeaways from #COP25. It's imperative the U.S. has a seat at the table during global climate talks because we can't solve this on our own. We'll continue to show America is still committed to addressing the climate crisis. #wearestillin https://ift.tt/2YnEPff
My colleagues and I are in Madrid for #COP25 to show the world America is still committed to the climate crisis, which demands global action. We represent the majority of Americans who want to protect our planet for future generations. #timeforaction https://ift.tt/2YaYtuC
San Diego is a proud military town made stronger by our servicemen and women. We also know our servicemembers do not serve alone. During Military Families Month, join me in saluting our heroes on the homefront. by Congressman Scott Peters
