HACKS 5.04 – Who's Making Dinner?
HANNAH EINBINDER photographed by Sandy Honig for Polyester Magazine
"I'm flattered," Greg said far too earnestly, hand briefly resting over his heart. "Would you be willing to go on the record or...?"
"No. I will not. It goes against my code of ethics. Sorry Gregory."
"Yeah? Well, you've gotta let me buy some of what you're selling." Lennon couldn't imagine setting up shop here forreal or even going back to how it used to be. It wouldn't be fun, though, would it? Not with real ghosts. "Brag away, I don't mind. You keepin' busy?"
Connie appreciated the compliment, and she did want to bask in it, but she also knew that it was best to keep her cards close to her chest, to not give too much away, so she just gave Lennon a shrug and a quick grin. "Business could be better, you know, but it's not terrible."
"Found? Shouldn't you–... Um..." Lexi hesitated, remembering that she was currently walking around as Lexi, not goody-two-shoes Hannah, and corrected herself. "Be less excited about that? Who else are you going to call if we all have a shit signal?"
"Yes, I found it." Fine, it was on a technicality, but who needed to know that? "Look, people always need a phone. We live in a modern society. Even if they're not making phone calls, you know..."
"You know we have a lost and found at the station for things like this?"
"Wow. That is some incredible brand new information. Thank you so much for sharing it with me."
"Wait... you like me? Like, as a person?"
"I wouldn't go that far. More as a vague amorphous concept?"
Andrew smiled at Connie, glad to see a friendly face. There weren't that many in this town, especially not for someone like him with the people he lived with.
"It is my lucky day for sure, how generous. I definitely owe you one!"
She grinned back at Andrew. This was the chance to strike a deal. Connie could just feel it. And it'd been ages since she'd gotten to do some good old fashioned bartering.
"And by owe me one, you mean one general favor, right? Not just one tiny little lighter?"
Andrew was avoiding the house; he needed a minute away from all the chaos of everything. Most of it wasn't even the people; it was him, he had been thinking again. Walking around the town, he just wanted a minute, but in Havensdale, he wasn't sure it was possible.
"Can you spare a light? I need to smoke."
At the sound of footsteps, Connie glanced up. She hadn't been expecting anyone to be coming over this way (not that she was up to anything; but still, a girl needed some peace and quiet sometimes). But it was just Andrew, and she instantly felt herself relax.
"It's your lucky day. I'm able to spare one, and it won't even cost you."
"Spotting talent is all it is, Connie. Yeah, that makes sense... I mean, stuck in this town, there's no choice but to play the long game. How's it workin' out for you?"
"What? Being stuck in this town or playing the long game? Because I wouldn't define myself as stuck personally. Sure, I'd like the flexibility to come and go, but I like it here. For the second, I think I'm doing a good job, not to brag."

"Score, kid. Are you gonna pawn it off to the highest bidder, or have you got a lot of important calls to make?"
"Thank you. Your compliments mean the world to me, Lennon. Really. I'm still considering all my offers before I make any decisions, to be honest."
"When you 'found' it, was there a string attached?"
"A literal string or a figurative string?"
"They're gonna start up a study on you, Con. How do you always manage to find this shit?"
"Sorry Gregory, that is classified information. I would tell you, but then I would have to kill you, and I do like you, so..."
"Well well well! Guess who has two thumbs and just so happened to find a cell phone that gets incredible reception, even with the Dome? That's right." @havensdalestarters
"No way! If there's one thing in this world I will not stand for, it's slander against cheese fries. That is sick and wrong, Con. Eat a stick of broccoli for dessert then, jeez. I'm so sorry you had to hear this bullshit. The usual, huh? We love mystique. I... I mean, yeah, same," she laughed suddenly. "Same old. Eat, sleep, check on dad, try to avoid my shithead ex - repeat."
"Or like, do cheesy broccoli if you absolutely have to. Because that way you are technically getting vegetables and, like, avoiding scurvy and whatever," Connie agreed. Yes, that was her, extremely mysterious. Sure, Hailie Tyler was chill, but some things, Connie would be keeping to herself, thank you very much. "Oh right, your dad. God, thank sucks. I'm really sorry."
"yeah, i wouldn't hold your breath on that one. we could try some sort of mini man-made beach." she suggested as a compromise. it was no beach but it would be better than nothing "a party would be fun. do you think people would go for one after everything?"
"ooh a mini beach could be fun." yeah, connie had no idea how on earth that would work, but she would leave it up to quinn valentine to figure it out. at quinn's question, she made a casual shrug. "totally. like, a little distraction. let everyone relax, let their hair down, all that. what would the downside be?"
