Diggy stuck a finger up, trying to think of something to object concerning the good doctor’s wonder child as her mouth opened and closed behind her face mask, before lowering her hand and shutting up for good with a frown. Yeah - no arguments to be made there. That lil’ ‘bot really was like a steamroller. Though she did emit sound when they mentionned wishing to see how humans lived on their day-to-day lives with their robotic companions.

She sucked in a deep, whistling breath through her teeth, before joining her hands to point at the Gemini twins, lips pinched tightly. “Ah’ don’t know how y’all came ta’ be, but ah’ don’t think ya’ll like everything ya’ see on that side of the universe, concernin’ the subject of “coexisting”. ‘cause it’s hardly sunshine and roses when it hit the fan, as they say here!”

Still, Diggy shifted on her feet, shuffling uncomfortably in place. She would have to take things as carefully as she could - only then realizing that maybe explaining earth topics to someone from another planet could be prone to missteps, miscommunication and lack of understanding.

Oh.

Well, too late to back down then. Diggy swallowed the lump in her throat, put on a brave face, and perked up proudly, puffing out her chest. “Well, ah’m sure ah’ can find something interesting ta’ talk about! If, uh, if ah’ knew where ta’ begin. A planet’s big, there’s a lot ta’ cover.” She admitted, her false confidence deflating for a moment before she perked back up, optics glittering proudly. “But, ah’ve got nothin’ but time! Have ya’ ever even visited stuff outside of this damp ol’ cave? Can’t be that interesting when ya’ haven’t seen everythin’ else!”

Hmm, well that seemed like a mildly touchy subject. Did human’s not get along with their robotic companions like they had assumed? To be honest it did have them question the now painfully lack of data that they had on the subject. 

Well that is why they were here. To learn about this world and it’s people. Both inorganic and organic. 

One thing was for certain. This little bot was most certainly not in the same condition as the light bots or those devilish wily bots. This was a bit suprising to the twins. What would the purpose of allowing a robot master to show their ‘age’ in such a manner? This obviously wasn’t a simple drone unit. 

“We’ve seen very little outside of these here caves.” she admitted while looking around. “We have been wishin’ to see more but have been at odds on the timin of such a venture. My brother wanted to explore down here a tad more but now that you have come with your gracious offer to show us about, well he cant argue my urge to see beyond these dismal caves.” 

“I hope you dont mind takin’ the main exit after your entrance. I do not wish to sully our clothing any further.”

“…From me’ experience with the whole “alien robot” shtick, being the weakest in a group usually doesn’t mean that much if ya’ overpower most ‘bots on a given planet.” Diggy pointed out, moving to drag a finger against the grit of a particularly flat wall angle, grimacing to herself with a slight shudder. “Uugh, it’s like kicking around a bunch of children. Sometimes, quite litterally. Ah’m still surprised the planet is still orbiting its star, trust me.”

The small ‘bot seemed to crumple a little inwards with a grimace as the others continued to talk, suddenly feeling more than a little inadequate for her wording. It wasn’t like those guys were much of a threat any longer - they probably didn’t have the same caustic sense of humor regarding repeated wars and invasions. Diggy shot a look over her shoulder, before letting out a quiet sigh, feeling that the tacticians’ explanation at least made sense, from their point of view.

“So, it’s a case of not wantin’ ta’ bother, since ya’ caused trouble before.” She resumed, taking something of a wild guess before leaning towards the duo with a somewhat flat look on her face. “Y’know, not asking fer’ help when yer’ off wandering on a planet ya’ don’t know that much doesn’t seem that well-advised, guilt or not. Not ta’ ruffle feathers or anything.”

Well, Diggy knew there was that risk of ruffling said feathers - but it needed to be said. “Tactician or not, ya’ can’t really devise much of a plan without good intel. Ah’ s’ppose ah’ could chip in - it’s not like ah’ve got much ta’ do lately, and for once that an alien ‘bot doesn’t have bad intentions or some big purpose in life, ah’m not gonna’ just let the opportunity to help pass me by.”

“We believe your planet is on the one way to creating robots as powerful as we. Your Dr. Light’s work is proof of that.” he said while gazing at the wall. “That is also part of our curiosity of your planet and people. We wish to see  how humans interact with their creations while not being blinded by deceit and our own desperation. 

Diggy was right. They didn’t want to be a bother after what they did. They sent her a nod in affirmation. Obviously this was still a sore spot for them. 

Once more they shifted on their feet and placed a hand on their hip. 

“We are just here to learn and observe. We figured that for at least the moment we dont need tah go and bother the good doctor.” 

It was an offer to help that piqued their interest. It was obviously something that they weren’t expecting. 

“Well if you are willin to show us around this charmin lil ball of dirt well we might be the fool to decline.”

What an odd way to laugh. It was like an animals squeak, but somehow kinda charmin’. 

“Ah yes I do love how they sparkle.” she said with a smile while making her way to the rock wall. “And it is positively excitin’ when you do find somethin’ that is more than just common stone.” 

Her hand took on a pink glow and with a few simple turns of her wrist a bright flash cut through the wall at an angle. She brought her fist against the scored earth causing the slice of stone to slide out in a perfect cross section. 

“It’s very fascinating but it is rather boring learnin about your darlin little world from the confines of the underground.” 

“Honestly, ah’ just like diggin’ ‘cause of all the stuff ya’ find. Gemstones are nice, but fossils too. Ah’ got a few home, but they’re always hard ta’ extract. Bein’ not made for precision digging and all. Ah’ swear it’s the only reason ah’ ever get behind schedule.” Diggy absent-mindedly followed behind the Gemini twins as they spoke, stopping at a safe distance from the wall as it seemed they were willing to keep on working while they spoke.

There was a loud, and very undignified sputter as Diggy witnessed them seemingly cut through and move a slab of rock as if it was a piece of warm butter. The small ‘bot did a double take, forcing herself to accept the fact that the robot in front of her had… actually, a very powerful system of laser cutters. She then looked up to the ceiling, then back at the end of the tunnel the twins had come from, finding it equally full of angular cuts, like those made by a powerful laser.

She really should have watched her surroundings before throwing her fists up. “Annnnd that’s when ah’m very glad not ta’ be a Wilybot right now.” She commented with a grimace, before crossing her arm, putting her processor back to full steam. “Can’t ya’ll just… get a way ta’ visit other places from old Light, or just access ta’ a good database? Ah’ don’t see ‘em tellin’ ya’ off.”

They both laughed in unison. This little one was actually starting to come off as charming in a sense. “Yes I can see how you’d find not bein one of those Wily bots a good thing. Your expression flatters us so. We aren’t near the strongest of our brothers and sisters.” 

That laughter faded on mention of Light. 

“Ah yes. We know the kindness of Dr. Light well enough. Still ...” her voice trailed off slightly before her brother took over. 

“We are embarrassed by our actions. Plain and simple. We hurt those that weren’t deservin’ of our wrath.” he stated. 

His tone still held some of the embarrassment his sister had, but he was obviously more open to talk about it than she was. 

“We are the head tacticians for the Constellation Droids and in our desperation we foolishly voted to trust Dr. Wily. His betrayal damaged our pride quite personally.”

Diggy arched her brows at the Gemini twin’s brother - or, she supposed she could call either that way, cracked a mighty chuckle at her assumption, which, much to her surprise, turned out to not be so off the mark. Well, of course, there was a reason they’d be curious about the mine’s minerals, if it was once owned by Wily, leaving the small mining ‘bot to grimace somewhat. Why that little detail wasn’t part of the records, she didn’t know, but she did know she ought to check them more carefully in the future.

“Ah, ah’ see… well, ah’ s’ppose that you’d have some weird elements in the soil of a planet with just plants on ‘em, if yers just didn’t have those.” A planet with entirely mechanical life was frankly difficult for Diggy to imagine - it just didn’t sound plausible, if it even was the case. But then again, neither did the existence of aliens, and yet, here they were. She just really did want to ask them about what their planet was like…

The small ‘bot reached to hold her chin, scratching it thoughtfully. Her very serious ponder on the question of how to give the two ‘bots proper advice, however, was somewhat dashed by the sister of the duo admitting she liked the stones because they were shiny, too. The small ‘bot’s head shot forward with a very undignified snort and a wheeze, and she struggled to suppress a giggle.

“Pfff- ah’ didn’t imagine THAT’D somehow be part of why ya’ find this place nice! Ya’ probably should talk ta’ a lightbot like Jewel man, ah’m sure they’d be jazzed ta’ help ya’ out with learning ‘bout minerals. Me, ah’m not savy with precious stones - just regular rock strata. Ah’ just collect whatever shines ‘cause…”

“Uh… they do look nice.” She admitted sheepishly, after a beat.

Diggy wasn’t completely reassured to have found what little crumbs of information her database contained concerning the constellation droids - mostly because there WAS very little info on them. This, to be quite frank, bothered and unsettled her, especially since she prided herself on knowing a great deal about past events. It WAS one of the few advantages about being about as old as the second “wily wars”, as much as those barely deserved to be called wars.

Although, to be fair, whenever aliens were involved, there was very little media coverage, and what little answers they recieved as for their ultimate fate was to the discretion of the roboticists involved. The Constellation droids were simply supposed to have… up sticks and left to save their world, that she knew. Still, that they were subjected to the same ups and downs as a regular earth ‘bot made them more… companionable, she supposed.

“…In hindsight, ah’ honestly can’t blame ya’. Yer’ not the first desperate batch of ‘bots ta’ have been tricked by the mustached grandfather of all con artists, and ya’ might not be the last. He’s just opportunistic like that, and bein’ backed up against a wall tends ta’ make people less picky.” Diggy reached to scratch one of her audio receptors, nodding sagely to herself before looking back up to the twins, feeling her previous irritation drain from her.

“Still… ah’ still don’t know what ya’d find here that’d be so nice that ya’d take home. Aside from that one crisis, yer’ world seems pretty darn’ advanced. Don’t really know what we’d hafta’ offer…” Diggy looked around herself, expression that of flat disbelief. “…Are y’all lookin’ for shiny rocks or somethin’?”

“Yes, well our desperation led to foolishness which is a great embarrassment to us. Luckily, for us things worked out in the end and we did find some kindness in your world.” he said with a nod down to her. 

Diggy’s questions made them both chuckle at the same time. The effect had both voices mixing together. Apparently they were on the same the wavelength. 

“We actually were looking through this mine for what we are assuming would be some kind of shiny rocks.” he responded while moving to place a hand on the wall. 

“Wily had us managing this mine when we were under his control. We wish to learn why these stones are so valuable that he would waste our time with them. If your’ planet’s seeds could save our world we are curious what kind of minerals your planet has formed. We believe that it would help with propagating new plant life.” 

Another shift in stance had them lightly place a hand on their cheek. 

“I also rather like the shiny stones that your darling little planet produces.”

Diggy blinked slowly, unsure of how to take the sudden, deflating pressure in the room, her stiff stance breaking ‘til she was slumped forward, staring dead at the strange cobbled ‘bot.

“Me, a DWN?“ She repeated the foreign ‘bot’s assumption - well, more like a cautious read on her, scratching the top of her helmeted head. “Honestly, ah’ don’t know why ya’ made that assumption. Ah’ mean, ah’ guess that the old man’s really desperate for army members, but ah’ don’t think even he would want an old rustbucket like me!” The small ‘bot’s quip of self-deprecating humor was followed by her banging a palm on her chest, sending dirt flecks cascading from her everything.

To be fair, she was glad she was given an option to segue into a more casual conversation - she really didn’t want to see where the mystery ‘bot’s combat capabilities lay, lest she wind up atomized into small pieces. And, that probably would have been an apt description of the duel’s outcome considering the nugget of information the twins - or, Gemini, dropped onto her, leaving her staring at him with wide optics, and taking a step back.

Just in case. Her gaze jittered between his two halves, processors spinning into full gear with enough force that she could’ve sworn she felt steam coming out of her audio receptors. “C-c-c-c-c-constellation droids?! ALIENS?!” She stammered, brows deeply furrowed, before squeezing her optics shut, and knocking on her own head as she sorted through her data banks. She NEEDED to recall whatever she could - those aliens could be dangerous! “C’mon, c’mon, work with me, processor! Where’d ah’ hear that before?!”

Then, with an almost audible “ding” of a light going off, she opened her optics, slackened her posture, then stared blankly at the twins.

“…What the heck are ya’ even doin’ back on earth?”

“Ah so you know who we are. Not surprisin considerin that dreadful event that were manipulated into it. It’s rather embarrassing the old man managed to manipulate us so. Truly terrible events indeed.” she sighed out. 

Once again posture shifted and the alien robot was standing straight, arms behind his back once more. It seems that they at least gave visual cues before they took turns speaking. 

“We came to learn.” he stated simply, but now he had a smile on his face. 

Knowing that Diggy wasn’t a Wily bot changed everything. Even if his sister was still upset about the mess they were now with her unpleasant introduction. Accidents were accidents. 

“Your humble planet held the key to saving our own. Now that the others are working on recovery we came back to see if there was anything else your world can offer ours to fully secure our salvation.”

“Bh- serial name?! Cold much?” Diggy gave a sharp sputter, before bowing her head with a quiet grumble under her breath. The formal request rubbed her the wrong way, like sandpaper applied to her rear end, but as much as her first instinct was telling the stranger to go stick their demands SOMEWHERE, their confidence was unnerving. And she had to admit it was sort of her fault for dropping on top of them like a bag of bricks rather than scanning ahead.

For looking like an entertainment ‘bot, they were poised with all the confidence in the world, like the mere thought of squaring off with her was a mild inconvenicence. Possibly less trouble than getting their armor cleaned. Diggy might have been an old model, but she was still an industrial ‘bot, and she could throw a mean punch. Resilience was her middle name. And somehow, that wasn’t a problem for them. This raised an unknown quantity, which was their actual combat ability.

Begrudgingly, Diggy’s arms slowly lowered, though still very much remaining close to her body, ready to put back up at any given moment should the double unit prove threatening. She narrowed her optics, scanning them as minutiously as she could. She already felt observed - she might as well return the favor.

“…DGN-001, Dig woman. Or Diggy, ah’ don’t know, ya’ don’t have the face of som’one who does nickname.” An awkward, tense pause followed, before Diggy grimaced. “… Sorry ‘bout droppin’ in. Ah’ really thought the whole sector was empty, so ah’ figured ah’ could go nuts without mah’ radar on.”

This one had quite a bit of personality didn’t she? 

The twins listened and observed keeping their silence and stoic stance until she finished speaking. When they were sure she was done they let a moment pass before stepping forward. 

“Ah good. You aren’t a DWN. We would have had problems if you were.” he said with a smile. “You can relax. If what you say is true then all of this was merely an unfortunate coincidence of poor timin’.”

His sister finished her initial scan of the industrial bot while he spoke. It seemed as though she was telling the truth. It merely was a little industrial bot that near got in over her little head.  

“I suppose it’s only in good form for us to introduce ourselves. We are Gemini head tactician of the Constellation Droids.” 

As soon as the introduction left their lips the alien bot’s stance shifted. They placed a hand on their hip and let out a frustrated sigh. 

“I do hope that meetin’ future Earth robots will be less messy than this one.”

Aside from a messy dress - half a dress, half a whatever else that was, the mystery robot was perfectly fine, if rather annoyed by the whole situation. Didn’t even seem to care that much about getting a whole brickload of ‘bot on top of their craniums beyond it making them dirty. In retrospect, that was probably a good reason to stay away. Worse still, they looked like what would have happened if two ‘bots were split down the middle, then cobbled back together for no apparent reason. The only kind of ‘bot that presented a multi-faceted personnality that Diggy could find in her database was the stuff of hushed rumors - something about several ‘bots stuck in a hell of their own making by being shoved into the same body.

Creepy.

The small ‘bot stiffly brought up her fisticuffs, backing away further as if withering under the glare of the mismatched fellow, a relatively feminine voice chewing her out for her rude behavior. Then, as if a switch had been flipped, the… half-bot, seemed to completely shift both his tone and general demeanor, as if behaving… kind of like the gentleman half. Was it really a case of two ‘bots one body? They mentionned a “sister” - was that really… two bots crammed in the same lot?

From experience, she had a feeling she ought not to get too close. Or make them madder than they were - if they got close, she’d go down swingin’! But, for that time being, she wasn’t going to take risks. The small ‘bot snapped momentarily from her cautious scan of the uncanny ‘bot, narrowed optics opening again - just long enough to answer.

“Uhh… well, that place ain’t s’pposed ta’ be swiss cheese yet. Ah’ was off mindin’ me’ own business, lookin’ fer’ shiny rocks - then turns out SOMEBODY went minin’ off of the tunnel network of the already existin’ mine, creating a new branch that stretched out WHERE AH’ DIDN’T PLAN IT’D BE! So there! Ah’ didn’t just drop on yer’ cranium ‘cuz ah’ felt like it ya’… ya’… two-for-one!”

Gemini eyed Diggy’s stance with his hands still clasped behind his back. Neither of them feared this little bot nor any other on this planet.

“I suggest you put the fists away. You will find that a duel with me would not end up well for you. Now tell us, what is your serial name and designation? It is the least you can start with after dropping on our heads. One would think a robot designed for tunneling would be able to scan ahead to prevent such a mishap.”

While her brother took control of the conversation the sister was scanning the little thing. On first glance it couldn’t have been a new model robot. Not with the dirt and dings in the armor. It didn’t seem to have any outward weaponry aside from its sharp tongue.

By all accounts it didnt look to be a Wily bot. They hoped that she wasn’t. They didn’t like to sully their hands but there was a deep seeded grudge against the old man and his robots.

Landing among a tangle of limbs and stumbling around in the dark, Diggy’s attempts to right herself were shoddy, at best. Her head-mounted lamp flashed through the darkness like the most useless strobe at the world’s quietest rave party as she flailed and jerked, each try to scramble to her feet ending with her tripping over someone’s arm or leg, or stepping on the hem of someone’s dress. She couldn’t see, couldn’t do anything half-decently, and on top of it all, the first noise that greeted her audio receptors was that of an irritated southern belle, of all things.

Confusing, to say the least.

“Aieeeeeeeeee! Ah’m tryin’, ah’m tryin’! Who wears their sunday best in the middle of a dark, damp ol’ cave anyways?!” Diggy broke into irate squawks, though trying still to get herself off and away from the unfortunate ‘bot that had cushioned her fall. Honestly, she was just glad she hadn’t come to to sparking wires and a crushed voice box - ‘cause she really wasn’t the lightest ‘bot around. Hell, she felt pretty sore herself from the dunk.

Eventually, she did end up scrambling away from the unfortunate ‘bot and, with the grace of a raccoon tumbling out of a garbage can, spun around on her heels, and flashed her light towards the… the…

“Tha’ heck…” The small ‘bot raised her hands defensively, unsure of what exactly she was looking at.

The robot Diggy was looking at was far to busy using their hand to brush off the dirt, rubble and dust that had crashed down unceremoniously upon them with Diggy. It didn’t seem that the heavy robot falling on their head had caused any damage. They looked more upset with the condition of the dress half of their outfit.

How vexing this all was.

A very frustrate and steely gaze shot down at Diggy, “I am always in my best. Now what are you doin’ out here diggin around, collapsin tunnels down upon us?” a female voice questioned.

Gemini’s posture suddenly changed. It straightened and they clasped their hands behind their back.

“Now now sister lets give the little robot a chance to go and explain themselves.”

Diggy liked shiny rocks. She might have been made knowledgeable about geology and rock formations, as well as structural integrity of just about anything, but gems and other precious bits found underground were something SHE liked. Something SHE found a fascination for on her own. As such, going digging for treasure was an activity she always got to working on in high spirits.

And nobody could really bug her for going out on a wander around the site of an old gem mine - the project had run dry years ago, and no one had bothered to extend deeper into the earth the tentacular tunnel system. It certainly wouldn’t bother anyone if she went digging around on the same strata, a healthy distance away from established (and possibly unstable) tunnels! 

To be fair, she really should have been paying attention to radar readings and geological activity in the area. There might not have been a snowman’s fart’s chance in hell that something had been going on outside of her calculations, but that chance still… existed.

So when the ground below the small tunneling ‘bot collapsed over a yawning pit of darkness, Diggy very briefly thought back to the fact that she never did apply that rule to “never dig straight down”. Then, she fell down like a brick, screaming and flailing her limbs, landing head first onto something hard.

“OW!”

Gemini’s internal dialogue was cut off by the rumbling of unstable earth shifting under its own weight. The sound echoed around them bouncing off the walls in a brief warning before the ceiling gave way. 

‘Well this isn’t good.’ they thought in unison seconds before disaster. 

They were expecting rocks, rubble and stone to clatter down over them. What they were not expecting was a screeching bundle of metal and wires that slammed right on top of them. 

“Do you mind!? Get off of us!” 

Diggy would feel whoever she just dropped in on shift under before they stood causing her to drop into the dirt mess she had made. 

“It’s all over mah dress! What a mess! It is goin to take just forever to get this cleaned cleaned.”

Oh how long it had been since they were last here. 

The mine was just as desolate and dreary as they remembered. Still this planet’s deepest pits held treasure. Minerals and materials that were rare and fascinating. It was a good start to learning more of this planet. 

Well that would be the case if wasn’t so utterly desolate. 

‘Brother please we have been here for hours peeling away at stone. You know we can learn more above ground.’

Gemini sighed as both minds reeled with each other. They did come to learn about this planet but was this world ready for them?

Rockman Strategy Gemini is STYLIN’

“No no. He was a touch bitter but the young man didnt hurt anything.” Gemini chuckled out with an idle wave their hand. “That and he was a bit rude just leavin’ the conversation in such a manner. Do you two normally take turns sharin time in charge of your main body?” 

The twins were still rather curious about Pat and Rey despite the short lived conversation with the angry Rey. 

“I did say he wasn’t much for conversation… but sorry about that. I’m just glad he didn’t want to hurt you. Or make Gemini hurt you.” The boy breathed a quiet sigh of relief, adjusting his stance so he stood without slouching, arms crossing behind his back.

“…Yes. However, he mostly comes out when I get too stressed or if someone is attacking me… I guess he tries to guard me." Pat was calculating his words like this was one of his first times considering this fact. "Is this your first time learning about this? I’m… I’m really unfortunately not the only one with it, you know…” He’d read some books as soon as he figured out what had happened to himself. It was an incredibly depressing fact for him.

“My boy, you do not have to worry about anyone ‘hurting’ us.” he laughed as Gemini’s stance shifted once more and they stood straight. “And yes this is our first time coming across a human with a situation that could be comparable to ours.
