Basic Aspects Regarding the Safe Use of Machinery
Workers and employees face various safety threats in the construction and heavy-lifting industry. Some construction accidents have been so disastrous, that these are still etched in public memory. Accidents are caused by safety hazards such as collapsing cranes, chemical exposures, misuse of machinery, etc (Amerisure Insights, “BUILDING ON DISASTER: FOUR CONSTRUCTION ACCIDENTS THAT SHOOK THE WORLD”, 2015). The risks to life and property increase with the use of heavy machinery and equipment.
For this reason, organizations that engage in construction should ensure that installation and use of machinery and onsite operations are conducted in a safe manner. There are various measures that could be taken where it comes to handling heavy machinery. The International Labour Organization (ILO) proposes various codes and regulations that apply on a global scale where the safe and healthy use of machinery is concerned (ILO, “SAFETY AND HEALTH IN THE USE OF MACHINERY”, 2013). Mentioned below are a few important aspects of this set of codes and regulations:
Manufacturing
Manufacturers must design machinery to be safe and must eliminate hazards. They must also adhere to national laws and regulations, as well as provide relevant certification and documentation pertaining to the machinery they produce. Another important responsibility of manufacturers is foreseeing sources of risks and hazards. These must then be included in the operation guidelines document of equipments. Calculating risks and providing customers with preventative and protective methods is also crucial.
Installing
The safe and correct installation of machinery is the responsibility of manufacturers as well as employers and users. Equipment and machinery can be bought in a pre-assembled state but would still need to be inspected by businesses before use. Onsite assembly and installation must be overseen by trained representatives of the customer and the manufacturer. Businesses must select and purchase machinery with care. This means that inspecting the equipments, checking for errors or faults, understanding use and installation guidelines, etc, all fall under the purview of customers and employers.
Using
There are various technical aspects to the use of machinery, in particular tungalyft equipment such as cranes, forklifts, etc. Organizations and employers must ensure that all employees directly interacting with machinery onsite have adequate training and experience in the safe and correct use of machinery. For example, a piece of equipment must never be overloaded, even if it might be able to bear the load. Training and orienting employees on safe use practices is vital to avoiding accidents onsite. All machinery must undergo regular inspections and maintenance checks. Employees must have a system in place to mark malfunctioning machinery and ensure no one accidently uses it.
Thus, by coordinating with employees and manufacturers, organizations can ensure they eliminate hazards and risks related to the use of heavy machinery. Organizations can approach construction machinery manufacturers for detailed information regarding the safe use of machinery. One such manufacturer dealing in heavy machinery such as cranes, hydraulic lifts, tanklyft equipment, etc, is Bygging-Uddemann. More information can be found on their website.
Slipforming is an effective method of construction.
Slipforming is used to make tall structures. It is a quick method of construction. There are different types of slipforming systems. Some of the common systems are: traditional slipforming, conical slipforming and gantry slipforming.
5 Reasons why Slip forming is a Popular Method
There are many reasons why the slipform construction technique remains popular in construction. But the main ones are, firstly, the technique saves a lot of time and expenditure ie it is a pretty fast method of constructing tall structures; secondly, there is smoothness and uniformity in a long concrete structure constructed using slipform. Along with tall structures, other structures like caisson, bridges and tunnels can be constructed smoothly and efficiently using slipform. Thus it is quite versatile. One can know more be visiting :

Heavy lifting equipment ie equipment used for lifting heavy loads plays an important role in day to day construction activities. There are many types of heavy lifting equipment but the four main ones are boom truck, bridge inspection unit, bucket trucks and container handlers.

Caisson Gantry system for Passenger Port in Incheon, South Korea
The gantry slip form system offers a more economical and effective solution for repeated concrete structures such as caisson production. The main features of slip form Gantry system are :
1.No dismantling and reassembling of the slip form system during the progress of production.
2. No jack tubes in the concrete blocks and the yokes have extra high clearance, which simplifies the installation of re bars and block-outs.
3.The slip form decks are very spacious for good storing facility and best work conditions.
4.Limited requirements of crane for wall slip forming
