New Painting and prelim sketches, Gouache on Paper. Feels good to be making fantasy work again. Very proud of this it’d been a while since i made something entirely for myself that wasn’t a study or a sketch. I’m trying to develop some sort of Los Angeles Cryptid vibe. This is for the Character in Context show at A. R. Mitchell Museum in Colorado May 2nd.
me at age 10: school is LITERALLY a prison. they keep us here for hours and dont let us eat or use the bathroom unless we ask. and we're forced to do dumb unnecessary work and we can't leave. this sucks
me at age 15: that was a little dramatic i think i mean it wasn't that bad
me at age 20: actually 10 year old me was right the way they treated us was incredibly inhumane for no fucking reason
This is foul KDJKSFKKSMFJSKCKS
I can't believe straight people think butch lesbians are scary. I see a butch lesbian and I'm immediately like I would trust you with my life
remember this? waaay back in like, Day 7 of the pandemic, this image of a CDC staff member went viral when this guy said “thank god there’s a lesbian with a lanyard, we’re saved.”
No, I don’t care if it’s “just the overture” or “only the orchestra.” I don’t care if there’s no one technically onstage yet. Put your phones away and stop talking. The show has started.
who is that wet little beast I see off in the distance
oh, it's muskrat.
one of the most important things i’ve learned in therapy is that when you’ve experienced prolonged trauma in your childhood, pleasure feels uncomfortable. like, not that you don’t feel it, but that when you do feel it there’s an impulse to make it stop, because it’s extremely unfamiliar. and pleasure can mean many things, as simple as feeling cozy, and as complex as feeling loved. the neural pathways for feeling good have not had a chance to develop, and the neural pathways for feeling bad are quite practiced. feeling good, too, takes conscious practice.
"I hate reality just as much as the next guy, but it's still the only place to get a decent meal"
- Groucho Marx
Generally speaking as someone who has a psych degree, therapy coping techniques also operate on the assumption that what ever you're going through is temporary, or already over. As a whole psychiatrists really don't know what to do with people who can't escape their situation. I think, personally, this is why so many people come to hate therapy after they've tried it. Everyone around you says these people can help you. Then the best advice they can come up with is "well, have you tried just not being stressed\in an abusive situation?"
