So here’s a vid on art for the @shakarianminibang for Katabasis by @beltsquid, absolutely loved working on it. You will see how indecisive I was, though, when figuring out what to draw! Below the cut is long. Its just some notes and sketches of my process :)

Initial sketch ideas on Garrus meeting the Rachni queen.

Garrus for scale

This is from the Mass Effect concept art book. I had a tough time finding a clear model of what the queen looked like. I used the concept art as my reference and found it to be the most interesting of the designs I've seen. For the Rachni soldiers, I ended up rebooting ME1 in the hot labs and taking numerous screenshots. Enjoy the squad in the beautiful pink and white phoenix armor.

Garrus I found very difficult to draw, I ended tracing over a model initially to learn his shapes and then found this reference sketch 3D and drew the final version from that. The tpose garrus was actually exactly what I needed.

And lastly I made a gif from the Procreate glitch effects on the communication between Garrus and the queen.

The Queen crooned in frequencies he was not built to hear. A prismatic chorus of thought rippled through Garrus’ mind, and he felt as though he existed everywhere and nowhere at once; he was his breath as much as his blood, as much as his bone; the space between him and the cold earth below him and the scuttling creatures before and behind him were meaningless. He was they and they were he; there was no longer any distance between his mind and hers. Theirs.

Pose practice with Shepard ❤️

Tonight she wore something that had obviously been made to fit only her. A white long-sleeved top that rested tightly against her skin and covered her up to her neck. The fabric stopped just below her ribcage. Her lower abdomen was bare - which would have been scandalous on a turian but less so on humans and asari. A white skirt with silver along the edges was draped across her hips and hid the entirety of her legs.
