Living in a famous touristy place that you moved to as a kid is so weird. Bc like I can’t say I was born and raised here (I moved when I was seven) but I’m not a transplant. I feel like I’m just like “please I wasn’t born here, but I was raised in the culture, I swear I’m cool and not an annoying ass transplant 😣” 🫩

it really pisses me off when adults sit there and drill it into kids’ heads that their youth is fleeting and tell them things like “enjoy your childhood while it lasts because this is the best it’s gonna get”. why are you telling children that adulthood is the worst thing they can experience? seriously what the fuck is wrong with you, why are you trying to make them feel like growing up is a fate worse than death? trying to convince them their life is over before it even begins? i’m tired of that shit. because tell my why my 12 year old cousin told me when she turns 30 she’ll be so depressed she’s just gonna cry all the time. what the fuck. kids don’t need to hear that their already stressful and overwhelming lives are never going to get better, that the abuse and lack of autonomy they face is apparently the highlight of their lives. they need to hear about adults who are happy to be alive and happy to have made it to their age. they need to know that growing up rules, it’s a gift and life does not have to suck for them, that they have a future that’s worth sticking around for. this rhetoric is so damaging mentally and i’m about to start hitting the adults who parrot it. i’m sorry you hate your life but you don’t get to dump your issues on these kids. don’t piss me off and leave these babies alone!

I was so genuinely depressed as a preteen that when I thought of kms I used to asked adults if it got better. They all responded that it got worse and that I was in the happiest time of my life. Like I’m still alive obviously, but them saying that did not help in the slightest.

I was a 4.0 GPA kid in high school but I’m definitely the reason phones were banned in my high school after I graduated. The school had shitty wifi and shitty connection, so trying to do anything that needed connection was more pain than it was worth. They also had this like watch system on the laptops where teachers could see what you were doing and close you tabs and stuff. So I couldn’t play games or watch stuff during class on my laptop. My solution was to downloaded so many shows on my phone. No joke I watched half of South Park during my classes.

I have the average bust size for a woman in the USA (34DD), but going clothes shopping makes me feel like the bustiest woman ever. Oh a cute top/dress has a sewn in cup outlines? Yeah, the bottom of those cups are barely going to reach your nipple. God forbid you want to wear something with buttons. You either wear a top that’s 10x sizes too big and look like you are wearing a tent, or there will be gaps bigger than the grand cannon. You want to wear a cute string bikini? Yeah, no, even the xl will not keep you from catching a public decency charge.

I read the Giver in middle school and just reread it as an adult. As an adult there were many things I did not pick up on:

- Gender roles are not a strictly adhere to. Jonas’ father is in a nurturing role around children, which is usually a seen as a more “female” task. While the mother is in a judge, a more “male,” role.

-The parents are never ridiculed for how they perform genders roles, even in childhood. Meaning acting outside of strict gender norms is socially acceptable.

- However, gender roles are reinforced by having the traditional nuclear family set up. There is no mentioned of if same sex people could couple up and raise a family in any way.

-Just how much systematic abuse young children are put through and the physiological effects.

- Birth Mothers are expected to give birth to 3 babies in 3 years. This means that they have back to back to back pregnancies, giving little to no time to recovery from pregnancy before they are pregnant again. The human body cannot recover from pregnancy that quickly without long lasting negative side effects. The exact number varied  from source to source, but for the human body needs about 2 years to fully recover from pregnancy.

- Along with Jonas’ mother’s remarks about birth mothers, it shows that Birth Mothers are a means to an end. The society that the Giver is in does not value these women, even slightly embarrassed by them.

- When I was in middle school I assumed the 12 year old assigned to be a birth mothers would wait quite a while before they became pregnant. But now knowing how little the society in the Giver cares about if the Birth Mothers have safe and healthy pregnancies, I am now almost certain the Birth Mothers are in their mid to late teens.

- This is also a huge factor into how Birth Mothers body’s recover. Teenage bodies are not meant to give birth, especially in the early to mid teens. Their bodies-especially the hips and pelvis- are still developing. The best age to get pregnant and to give birth is actually around 30ish (however, that has a lot of factors.

-Being pregnant as a teen and having 3 pregnancy’s back to back, can leave birth mothers enduring life long negative consequences.

- I’m also wondering how these births mothers get pregnant. In the middle school, I always assume sperm donor and even now I think that is the most likely explanation. However, as I have gotten older, I’ve learned more about how horrifically little girls are treated, especially either pregnancy. Reading the Giver as more and more information about the Epstein files comes out, I cannot help but think of men taking advantage of young girls that are meant to get pregnant, and no one around them knowing what sex is, much less sexual assault.

Going thrifting when you are allergic to laundry detergent is so funny. Bc I’ll pick up or try on something that smells strongly of laundry detergent and my brain is like DANGER ‼️ Like yes brain, the clothing that has been washed is the thing I should be looking out for at the thrift 🙄

My long hair tortoiseshell cat must be so glad that she passed before I read Dungeon Crawler Carl. I would have put so many accessories on her. I would have bought her a dinosaur stuffed animal. I would have had full on photo shoots with her. She would have killed me in my sleep and might have actually gained the power to shoot laser eyes.

I do think it is cruel to keep someone on life support just to keep them in office. Like there definitely needs to be legislation so this does not happen again. But at the same time Mitch McConnell wants to pass a national abortion laws, like the one that lead to a brain dead woman being kept on life support just because she was pregnant. So I don’t feel bad for him at all.

If you have a diabetic cat and their blood sugar is low and they start seizing, rub honey on their gums. It’s a quick and relatively safe way to raise their blood sugar quickly. Do not attempt to put it down their throat. You are not going to be able to pry a seizing cat’s jaws open or safely shove the honey down their throats in that state. You still need to go directly to the emergency vet, even if it seems like everything is ok, but it’s something you can do to help them when you first find them or in the car ride over to the vet.

AND AGAIN DONT THINK YOU CAN CURE YOUR SEIZING CAT JUST BY GIVING THEM HONEY GO TO THE VET ASAP.

Controversial take but I feel like the modern YA Dystopia trio should not be: The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, and Divergent but instead should be: The Giver, UnWind, and The Hunger Games.
