anyways i just love the way kpop demon hunters stayed true to its roots in korean/asian culture, especially around the core theme of community vs individualism
the fact that it's not a single chosen one but a group of three
the fact that the honmoon is not powered by the hunters themselves but by the energy and love of the fans
the fact that gwi-ma turns people into demons by promising that he is the only one who can help them when he is in fact reliant on his army of demons to collect souls for him
the fact that "your idol" is about surrendering yourself to a single higher power while "golden" is about soaring to new heights together
the fact that gwi-ma preys on people's individual insecurities and shame to get inside their heads while rumi, mira, and zoey set them free in the end by encouraging them to embrace their differences and reminding them that they're not alone
the fact that you can see the audience cheering individually and even pushing into each other to get closer to the stage during "your idol"
while they're linking arms and cheering together and hugging during "what it feels like"
i have not seen the live action lilo and stitch but it feels like that movie sits on the opposite end of the spectrum from kpop demon hunters as a case study for how to tell a story in way that is culturally authentic and still resonates with a broader audience
and i think given that the core theme of the movie is all about community over individualism, the ending, particularly as it relates to rumi and jinu's budding romance, is really the perfect culmination of that broader theme
rumi and jinu's connection has all the hallmarks of that all-encompassing, all-consuming, borderline co-dependent first love where you keep your relationship a secret and sneak out of the house to meet up and feel like the other person is the ONLY person who really gets you
i'm the only one who can understand you, i'm the only one who will love you is the kind of thing that sounds romantic when you're 16 until you get older and realize how toxic it actually is and i love that the movie counters that in "what it sounds like" with rumi realizing that she had that love and support all along from her girls, and later, from the fans who continue to cheer them on through their comeback
it's about connection and sisterhood and love and sharing your fears and lifting each other up and becoming stronger and better together
and as compelling as i found rumi/jinu and as much as i would like to see their relationship explored more in a sequel/series, i just really love that this movie, which is clearly targeted at young women, ends on the message that romantic love is not the end all be all, that friendship is just as important if not more so than a romantic partner, that single women can lead successful, fulfilling lives, that true happiness and freedom start from within
it's crazy that this message still seems revolutionary in 2025 but given the current state of the world, it feels more necessary than ever
10. Sharing snacks with Hina when they first meet, this is anime only but still a very cute moment of these two bonding!
9. Attempting to kill Taiju, ok murder isn't exactly great but there's something kinda admirable showing how far Yuzuha was willing to go to protect Hakkai. It shows just how precious Hakkai really is to her (but yk still murder so not great)
8. Just everything about her character book outfit
7. How she handles her crush on Takemichi, She was actually really mature about this, simply acknowledging that she has the feelings but respecting Hina enough to not act on them.
6. Calling Taiju out to try and help Hakkai, she must've known Taiju wouldn't like this and would likely punish her for it but she still did it anyway. She constantly does whatever she can to help Hakkai.
5. Being iconic enough to have her own fan club at school, she's just that well loved.
4. Trying to shield Hina from Taiju
3. Not giving up against Taiju, she was badly beaten and barely conscious at this point but still all she could think about was beating Taiju and protecting Hakkai.
2. Kicking Inui, gotta be one of her most iconic moments. She doesn't even hesitate to knock an knife wielding Inui down when it comes to protecting Hakkai. And it was just a very cool kick.
1. Making the deal with Taiju to protect Hakkai, this was incredibly brave of her. She was a child who had just lost her mother and was having to adapt to Taiju's physical abuse and yet she still puts Hakkai first. And she does this for literal years, 100% not exaggerating when I say she's one of the strongest character's in this series.
Mitsuya fr deserves an award for all he had to put up with while doing the uniforms. Like there is no way all of the toman founders were perfectly still and well behaved during this especially if they were altogether at this time.
We've probably got Mikey fidgeting and trying to snack, Pah falling asleep and Kazutora + Baji messing around together
For the second KnH seasons fanart we have Maomao in her regular outfit with chrysanthemums in the background. 🌼 Mums symbolize autumn in Chinese culture, and of the Four Gentlemen plants it is the one that is used prominently in traditional medicine to treat a range of ailments, and is an appropriate flower for an apothecary.
While this is the second piece in this series I drew, in terms of meaning it comes before the previous piece, as autumn comes before winter. The vase Maomao’s holding contain the flowers associated with the Three Princesses of the Verdigris House, the three women she was closest to before she landed in the palace. “Verdigris” refers to the blue-green rust that naturally forms on copper, and was also used as a pigment in art as well as a pharmaceutical ingredient before the advent of modern medicine. The vase is a celadon, and is also known as “green ware”, as the color of this type of ceramic resembles jade. Therefore, the “green” vase is a nod to the “green”house that Maomao came from. The floral pattern is a reference to the Japanese name for the red light district: 花街 hanamachi, which literally means “flower town”.
To add yet another layer to the vase symbolism, historically celadon ware were in vogue during the Tang dynasty in China until it was replaced in popularity by the advent of blue and white porcelain ware in the Yuan dynasty (the vase Maomao is holding in the previous piece). So in this sense, the focus of Maomao’s world transitioned over time from the Verdigris House (celadon ware) and her sisters to the palace (blue and white porcelain) with Jinshi and the consorts.
- He notices you have a tell. You scratch underneath your ear when you lie.
- It starts with little things. You say you’re not hungry when he notices you didn’t pack more than a bag of chips for lunch.
- You say your exam results aren’t that bad.
- You ask to get dropped off at the market for food shopping instead of directly at home.
- Mitsuya wanted to understand you, all the parts of you. He started the relationship ready to accept you. If you would let him in.
- He’s not a mistrustful guy, jealousy isn’t natural for him. He doesn’t think you’re evasive because of some other person.
- But something gnaws at him. He thinks about following you home from school. Runs through in his head what your reaction would be if you catch him. Wonders if you’d run away from him even faster. No… that’s not the way.
- He invites you over his house on a weeknight. To study and because he wants to make you dinner. You try to help out with the pasta and he asks you to relax. Keep on reading and ask him questions if there are things you don’t understand.
- With his apron saying “Best Brother,” he chops vegetables quickly. Walks over to your table, wraps his arms around you from behind and kisses you on the cheek. You say, “What was that for?”
- Walking away back to his sauce, he shrugs and says, “Recipe called for a bit of sugar.”
- You cover your cheeks with both hands and dip your head to the table. “Ack! Corn, that’s what that was! So corny!”
- He serves you dinner with his sisters, who loudly request you come over more often.
- “Um… is it okay? Are you sure you want me here?” You don’t know how to react to… is it being wanted?
- Luna and Mana reach for you to pinky promise. With both pinkies occupied, Mitsuya notices you don’t scratch when you promise you’ll come over.
- Once the girls are in bed and you’re back to the couch with your boyfriend, you’re thinking you should head home. Mitsuya took care of the cleaning since Luna and Mana wanted your attention for bedtime. Mitsuya is sitting on the couch and simply raises his arms towards you. You dive in.
- “You forgot to take this off,” as you pinch his side through the apron. He’s hugging you tight, chin above your head.
- “I was so tired and plopped down here. Then I saw you and I’m feeling recharged.”
- You tell him you like the garlic and herbs smell on him. He laughs and wishes he could bathe.
“Do you want to stay over?” he asks.
- You tense up and your hand reaches up to your head as you say, “I don’t wanna impose, it’s better for me to go home. Parents will worry…”
- Mitsuya grabs your hand. “Do you want to share what’s really on your mind, babe? I think you want to stay over, maybe even take a bath. Have a midnight snack.”
- You’re still in his arms and not looking into his face. Shocked at being called out, you don’t know what to say next.
- Mitsuya brings your hand to his lips and kisses each knuckle.
“Luna went through a lying phase when she was barely 2. If I asked her about brushing teeth, she said she already did but didn’t run the water. I would smell her breath to check because asking wasn’t working. When I had bandages on my face or hands from fighting, she’d say she didn’t love me anymore. She made lots of games, point to objects or people and ask me to guess if she loved them. She’d point to me and say, “Uck! No!” It took me a while to get her real feelings out: ‘Onii-chan gets hurt, I don’t like him!’”
- “Anything true today, tell me something true. I’m gonna listen to your feelings, whatever they are. You want me to hold something, hold the thing keeping your mind heavy, share it. Please.”
- That’s how it breaks. The dam in your heart.
- “No one really pays attention at home to me. Middle kid, out of 6. A lot of voices and silly bickering. Hard to study sometimes unless it’s really late.” You tell him more, not how tragic your life is necessarily. Just how it can be hard to stand out or ask for attention with so many other kids. You got used to pushing down how you really felt about things, even the good things like wanting to sleep over and hold on to Mitsuya’s hand until morning. Something as simple as him stroking the top of your hair is all you could ever want for joy.
- “You see me. You really see me. That’s what makes you different, Takashi.” You feel his heart beat a little faster, maybe your imagination. His body feels warmer.
- “If you aren’t gonna get in trouble, stay over. I’ll massage your scalp. Whatever you want, just tell me.”
summary: Oh, it’s not that kind of fic lmfao. Out of the TR boys, Mitsuya strikes me as such a caring papa for your daughter Kimiko (君子) that it has to backfire on him in a funny way.
w/c: 1020
a/n: I have no excuse other than this is inevitable after binge-reading SpyxFamily manga all day. And I want a place for all the ShitMyKidSays headcanons I’ve made for the Toman boys.
[Of course, we know this meme. Humor me.]
“Daddy, you love me?”
“Yes, Kimiko.”
“You love me?”
“Yes.”
“You love me???”
“Yes!”
Your husband humors your daughter for as long as she could speak her first words. Even when she crawls into your bed early in the morning, Takashi answers all her questions. And you love every moment.
“Are diamonds sharp?”
“Hmm, I guess they could be.”
“Can we get diamond knives?”
“No, baby girl. Then there wouldn’t be enough in the world for the rings and necklaces and earrings I give you and Mommy.”
He has taken his best educated guess at the family lives of marine animals, said “time will tell” to whether she will inherit his “superpower” for making pretty dresses, and gently let her down when she asked if she could choose which parent she looked like most with her mind.
“Daddy, am I your best friend?”
“Mm, Mommy’s had that title for a while. You’re my best little girl.”
“Whyyy??? You’re MY best friend! I tell you all my secrets! You could blackmail me but you love me!”
Laying on his chest at night, you laugh about her vibrant personality.
“I wonder who she gets it from?”
“Hmm, I think we can safely say it wasn’t from me, Y/N.”
“Hey!” You raise your head to poke noses with your life partner. “Is that a dig or a compliment?”
He catches your mouth in a kiss and exhales. “If you can’t tell by now, I can’t help you.”
You kiss him back, a little more slowly. “Guess you’re lucky for having two of us in this house who love you so much.”
Wooo, boy, you had no idea to what extent your Takashi is beloved by the ladies.
When blowing out the candles for her 4th birthday, you ask what Kimiko wished for.
“Then it won’t come true! It’s a secret, Mommy!”
Mitsuya eggs her on. “I thought you told me all your secrets.”
Kimiko puffs up her cheeks and closes her eyes. Her “I’m thinking” face. “Ok, I’ll whisper it.”
A curling of her cute little finger, and your husband winks at you before lending his ear. Whatever she said makes your husband almost break his neutral face. He has to cough and then tousle her hair.
“Kimiko, sorry to disappoint you but you have to pick another wish.”
“WHYYYY?”
He mimics her thinking face for a couple seconds and then exaggerates a lightbulb moment and flash of brilliance. He cups his hands over her ear to whisper his big answer.
It doesn’t seem to help. Your daughter’s face crumples up and she tears up.
“But she’s soooo old! She’s gonna be a million years old or dead when I grow up!”
You are puzzled and reach out to comfort Kimiko.
“NO!”
She rejects you and you have to gasp at her audacity after going through 46 hours of labor.
“You may have won this round but everyone says I look just like you and Daddy calls you beautiful all the time. So you watch out!”
Off she stomps to her room, attempting to flee with the whole cake and failing that, cut a quarter from it and carries it in her hands.
“What was THAT?”
“C’mere.” Takashi pulls you backwards with him on to the couch.
“You have to promise me you won’t get mad.” He’s hugging your waist and spreading bribery kisses on your cheek.
“Why would I? She’s our baby girl.”
“Ok, then don’t get mad at me or make fun of me.”
“Ohhh hoo, now this has gotta be good.”
Your arms find their home around his shoulders and neck.
“Well… she said when she grows up, she wants to…” he chuckles and coughs. “I can’t, I can’t…”
“Come on! You’re not the only one who can use kisses as bribes,” you say while kissing full-mouthed on his sensitive spot behind his ears.
“Babe! Ahh! Okay, okay! Kimiko said, ‘I want to marry Daddy when I grow up’.”
“Waaahhhm?” you question as you pull on his earlobe.
“Ahh, well,” is all he could say while his entire face down to his neck blushes.
It’s your turn to cry, only this time it’s after exhausting yourself from laughter.
“Ohh, I have to text Hakkai and Yuzuha RIGHT NOW—”
“No, Y/N! Come on, you said you wouldn’t make fun of me—”
“Uh uh no. Never said that.”
Your face blanches when you replay her words.
“Wait! Kimiko thinks I’m not gonna be around when she grows up? How old does she think I am? And why does she think you’re not gonna be too old either?”
Since you’re on his lap, any bit you squirm can tease him to an early grave or satisfy him. It all depends on your husband coming up with the right response.
Takashi isn’t done blushing, despite your ice queen staredown.
“Ah, she said I was perfect and always eat my vegetables.”
Your turn for the kawaii thinking face. Opening your eyes and unbuttoning the top of your blouse, Takashi thanks God for giving him the gift of speech. “Hmm… she’s not wrong…”
Epilogue:
[A month later]
Kimiko runs from her school’s entrance to hug your leg, surprising you and her dad.
“How was your first day of preschool, baby girl?”
“Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!”
“What is it?”
She looks up at you with the face you passed down to her, aside from Mitsuya lavender eyes.
“Mommy, I’m so sorry I was mean! You don’t have to watch out anymore.”
Stifling your laughter, you ask, “Baby girl, what happened in school?”
She covers her cheeks and pirouettes with eyes closed. “I met the boy I’m going to marry!”
Takashi spit takes his iced coffee. “What?”
She curls that finger of hers and he crouches down to her level.
“Daddy, Daddy, it’s going to be okay. I still love you, Daddy.”
“Heh??”
“He has the same color eyes… and his hair is blond and long…” Kimiko covers her blushing cheeks again. “Haitani-kun is perfect!”
“EHHHHHH??!!”
You pat your husband’s shoulder. “Baby, let’s see how this plays out.”
