David Fincher’s HBO comedy series Videosyncrasy (previously known as Living on Video and Video Synchronicity) has shut down production. As Deadline reports, filming —which was in the middle of the fourth or fifth episode— has stopped, a decision made after the network saw a couple of complete episodes and the director asked for some time to “look at the cuts and decide on the series’ creative direction”.

While there’s a rumor that some cast-members had been told that the project is not going forward, sources say that it’s not dead but just taking a break, and that there might be some script retooling.

The series —which received a ten-episode order a little over a moth ago— is set in 1983 Los Angeles and it revolves around the players of the then-exploding music video industry — directors, record executives and crew members, many of them dabbling in drugs — through the eyes of a newcomer, Robby (Charlie Rowe). Robby is a wide-eyed guy who drops out of college and drives to Hollywood with dreams of directing a sci-fi epic and lands a job as a PA for a company making music videos.

Believed to be co-starring in the series are Sam Page, Jason Flemyng, Corbin Bernsen, Kerry Condon, Paz Vega and Elizabeth Lail.

I’ve only made seven films in over 20 years, which is not a lot. What I know is that every film meant something to me. I’m sure if you ask John Ford what he’d learned between his 68th and 69th films, he’d be puzzled and surprised by the question as well. For me, it’s always about looking for something that makes me question and re-examine what I thought I knew, but I can’t really specify what triggers the inspirations in me.
