Once again, the workplace is making it a fight to access and be approved for leave entitlements.
Day 48 of 8 weeks face down for 22 hours/day. Round 2
Saw surgeon and needed some more laser done today. Face down for another 2 weeks or as long as the gas bubble lasts. Sigh.
But we're getting closer to the end!
Bestie started a fancy new job last week that has a lot of assumed knowledge about government/politics which us not exactly her forte so each day features fun questions and the chance for me to yap.
Something I rather enjoyed about the Commonwealth Games was the way the para events were integrated into the 'mainstream' events and programming.
I think this was the first time the combined approach was taken and I can recognise jt was probably a cost saving measure with the change in host from Melbourne, Australia to Glasgow, Scotland, and there's value in having distinct para competitions but I would really like more of this in the future.
Describing surrealists as people who viewed the world 'at a right angle to reality' is a lovely turn of phrase.
Dinner tonight with Mrs Mason might prove to be trying and Phryne liked a little alcoholic applause for her social efforts.
- Dead Man's Chest: A Phryne Fisher Mystery, Kerry Greenwood
Quite the commentary on the benefits of a good cocktail
I enjoy that she wants to be close, even if we're just hanging out not doing much.
On life passing by
Feels are being felt about life being at a standstill for me while it's still happening for everyone around me.
In the 16.5 weeks I've been face down, there have been two engagements, a birth and two pregnancy announcements, cancer and chronic illness diagnoses, and today there was news of the passing of someone I had great affection for.
Life hey
Day 34 of 8 weeks face down for 22 hours/day. Round 2
Saw surgeon today, everything looking stable (big yay), gas bubble dissolving v slowly so continuing the face-down life for at least another 2 weeks.
111 days since symptoms started
Day 24 of 8 weeks face down for 22 hours/day. Round 2
Today is 15 weeks since symptoms started (that's 105 days, INSANE). Everything is feeling like Groundhog Day.
You reach a hand out to me then I’m gonna hold it
- Big Scary, The Opposite of Us
We talk about Stargirl and how I am coping. I tell him I expected I would have good days and bad days, but I didn't expect to have good hours and bad hours within the same morning.
The emotional swings are exhausting.
Steve shares stories of his own grief when his mother died, and reassures me that the old cliche that time heals is indeed true, but the wait can be agonising.
- Indira Naidoo, The Space Between the Stars
You can't grieve unless you have loved, and loving is a good thing.
- Indira Naidoo, The Space between the Stars
For Indira this was about love for her sister. It's a bit different for me but still resonates.
I am grieving my life having changed. I liked being able to see. I was trying to love my life again in 2026.
This is about my failing vision but it is also about Jay. I'm still grieving that loss of what we could have been but never got the chance. I know there was love there and that's a good thing.
Day 18 of 8 weeks face down for 22 hours/day. Round 2
A friend shared this week that she and her partner are getting married on 21 November so please save the date, which was exciting and happy news to hear!
This is the second friend to get engaged while I've been recovering and I'm so happy for my friends but very selfishly it also kinda sucks seeing other peoples' lives progressing when I've literally been lying down for 22 hours/day for 14 weeks now. And I've lost so much vision I'm grieving and don't know what the future is going to be like.
There's so much i want to do with my life that doesn't involve perpetually being in recovery and it's a bit tough on ye olde brain.
The whole Cabo Verde underdog story in the 2026 World Cup has me in a chokehold. This team has made me feel the absolute romance of the game.
