Finally done drawing for Canto 8!! It’s been almost a month since the last one. I’ve been busy with comms and hit with art block.🥲 This one was definitely a bit of the struggle since I feel so many events happpened with so many characters…

Aside from the theme of generational trauma, what I really enjoyed this canto was how they showed the beauty of mortality and just being human in general. The reason to keep moving on even if we’ll be gone someday. Because I swear this topic is never talked about enough (or at least where I’m at, where everything moves really fast and the reason to live is to work and to work is to live) (yes it’s an asian society too LOL also why canto 8 resonates a lot with me).

I think this piece has the most research I’ve done before starting on it… literally sat through Canto 3, checked the canto wiki, song wiki, sinclair’s wiki while analysing his official arts with the song on repeat… hopefully my research wasn’t in vain, and that my Sinclair fans out there get the references in this one!

Canto 3 is one of those cantos where our sinner remains mostly unresolved (but still changed of course) at the end. I hope our dear Sinclair who’s breaking out of his shell learns to reconcile his two inner worlds, and fly as the best version of himself he chooses. So that is what this piece mostly focuses on.

During the first hour or so drawing this I was physically holding back tears from time to time because of how much Canto 7 PAINS me… it’s really my favourite canto, so I poured much of my soul into this fanart. I spent a lot of time on this compared to my other canto fanarts lol, the time this took was double… and a lot was spent fussing over whether the concept made sense or if the elements tied together nicely, because I really want to do Canto 7 justice. Regardless of how antsy I still feel about this work I am satisfied!
