easy mistake
Summary: The new girl in class is too pretty and too cool for Eddie. Or at least that’s what he thinks. Maybe it wasn’t just the jocks who judged a book by it’s cover.
Warning: Eddie Munson x Fem! Reader. Reader is stereotypical feminine and girly. Cursing, abusive Jason, Eddie being a little mean as well but mostly just teasing, and I thiiinkkkk that’s it. Only happy endings here.
As soon as she had walked the halls, everyone who could breathe was bowing down to (Y/n) (L/n).
Not only was it a natural response to her beauty, but the jocks demanded the fast earned respect for her as soon as Jason called dibs on her.
Pretty much every girls dream.
Get excepted by the cool crowd, have a hot guy drool over you and do your every bidding, as well as, and here was the real kicker, have all the classes you had desired.
That was something unheard of.
She was surrounded by pretty smart kids all day, and felt like royalty.
Yet, she wasn’t exactly...what was the word?
“Hey, princess, you’re in my way.” She whirled around to meet a pair of puppy dog eyes that were trying their best to look intimidating, yet failed with their natural softness.
Comfortable, yes. That was the word.
She still felt like she hadn’t found a good concrete place in this new home, and she still felt like the outsider trying her best to show she wasn’t some weirdo.
(Y/n) suddenly realized what the boy had meant.
She was in the way of the book for the AP English class.
“Err! Sorry!” She slid over swiftly, wanting to die from the embarrassment she felt as he cocked a brow at her.
He probably thought she was some kind of freak.
She smoothed out her skirt nervously and walked back to her seat with the assigned book in hand.
The boy took a seat by her, the assigned seats given now making her want to jump out the second floor window.
“Trust me, I don’t want to work together either.” He grumbled, looking down at his book as he flipped to the page he had left on.
“What...?” (Y/n) looked around, puzzled, then back at her book.
“I’m (Y/n), by the way. Nice to meet --”
“Trust me, I know who you are.” He sighed, pushing his long curls back.
She couldn’t help how she anxiously started to gnaw her lip.
Oh no.
Had he heard something bad about her? Something embarrassing surely.
“Oh...” She flatly responded, starting to mess with the bow attached to her braid.
Clearing her throat, she flipped her book open and took out her notes.
“I started on the assignment yesterday by the way if you want to look at it.” She tilted her pink notebook to him, offering a smile.
It came off shy, almost sheepish, and quite pretty.
The boy could only stare for a moment, then shook of that weird feeling in his stomach.
“I’m Eddie, and...thank you.” He started to scribble down the information she had offered.
“So,” He started once he was finished writing, “You must be pretty studious. With getting this done early and all.” He drummed his fingers on the table to an imaginary rhythm.
“Oh! Well, there’s still lots to do but -- I thought it’d be officiant to get some done early, ya know? With a whole lot do like cheer, clubs, dance, and --” She noticed a little too late that she had started to overshare, ramble, and her face turned a shade red.
She stopped immediately and cleared her throat, “Um, yeah, pretty studious. That’s me.”
Eddie gave her a curious look, almost amused.
It was cute. She was cute.
Well -- her personality, anyway.
“Uh-huh. Welllllll,” He drew out the word in a teasing tone, and it made her heart flutter a bit.
“I usually skip this class anyway. I just do pretty okay at the tests, that’s the only reason I’m not failing out of this shithole.” He shrugged.
“But,” He gave her a little grin, thinking, this was just another random girl who was gonna fall for the jock(s) anyway, and get her happily ever after -- so why not have some fun?
“Since you’re so,” He took a pause, and gave her smile that made her feel all icky inside. “Smart --” He practically spat the word out. “Why don’t you just do the whole thing and I’ll write our names at the top when you’re done?”
Most girls; correction, all girls, would’ve told him to fuck off and finished the insult by calling him a freak.
He was ready too, grinning and all, ready for the verbal abuse he was so accustomed to.
“Oh.”
That’s all that fell from her pretty mouth.
Eddie’s grin fell, and he took a good look at her.
It didn’t look like she was going to cry, but her eyes filled with this -- this sadness that made his gut twist in a nauseating manner.
“Um,” She looked out the window, as if genuinely thinking about something else, then back to him with the smallest, most saddest smile he had ever seen.
“That’s...not optimal but I’m sure I can get it done.”
The bell then rang, and she slid out of her seat with quick motions.
Eddie could only sit there, feeling as if someone had slapped him.
That was...that was a first.

“Hey, doll! After my practice, wanna come over to my place and,” Jason gave this smile, a smile that made her skin crawl. “Get to know each other.”
They were walking in front of the library, (Y/n) about to head in there to finish up the pile of homework she had (The AP English not exactly helping).
She let out a nervous laugh, her usually quick thinking mind failing her as she panicked.
They were the only ones in the hall right now, everyone else rushing to get home.
“My parents aren’t home, if that’s what you’re worried about.” And then he gave her a smile that made her feel bad for the guy. He really thought she wanted to go, he genuinely thought there was something going on between them.
“Jason, I really like --”
“Then it’s settled, let’s go.” He grabbed her bag for her and started to walk.
She quickly tugged on his shoulder.
“But, Jason, I’m not that kind of girl. We’ve only known each other for a week. We’re not even dating.” She tried not to tremble as his eyes narrowed at her, confused.
“Wait -- what?” He genuinely questioned with this pure hurt and betrayal that colored her confused.
“We’ve been hanging out all week, (Y/n). I thought we were --”
“We’re not dating, Jason.” She didn’t shout it, she was rather calm actually, and she was proud of herself for it because she felt like crying and running away.
He just looked so utterly shocked, so taken back, as if he he’d never heard these kind of words before.
“I’m the most popular guy in school. I don’t understand --”
He had taken steps closer to her, her back hitting one of the windows to the library.
“Jason, calm down.” She put up her hands, as if easing a wild animal.
“(Y/n), you will go out with me.”
She was so taken back by his ego that she couldn’t help but snort out a laugh.
“No!” She finally raised her voice and tried to slide away from the corner he had back her into, reaching for her bag to leave, but he violently grabbed her arm to make her stop.
She let out a small yelp of surprise and pain.
“Let go!” She started to kick but he wrapped his strong arms around her in a way that prevented her from being able to move.\
That’s when she started to cry.
She tried biting him, but when that failed, something -- someone, came from no where and slammed their fist into Jason’s jaw.
Jason flew back, the punch packing so much heat his nose was now bleeding.
(Y/n) skidded to the ground and scrambled to her feet as fast as she could.
She took several steps back, looking around to see who had saved her, when she backed into them.
She turned quickly, meeting a pair of puppy dog eyes and a bloody fist.
Eddie’s eyes were over filled with rage and something else; bloodshot.
“Are you okay?” His tone was low, almost threatening.
“I --” She couldn’t get words out, shaking like a leaf.
She took a step forward and hugged him.
Then, quickly pulling back, wiped her tears away.
“Thank you, Eddie.” She said in such a broken voice that it made Eddie want to continue to beet the shit out of Jason.
Who, was still very much struggling to regain himself.
“What were you doing here?” Her teary eyes looked up at him tenderly.
“Oh, well,” He tried to hide his bloody fist.
“I was finishing the assignment for English...” He practically whispered.
He didn’t know why, he had never done homework before, yet...
She noticed his bad hiding skills and pulled his fist up to where she could see it in better light.
She winced at how painful it looked.
Without uttering a word, she placed a soft kiss on one of the the very few knuckles that hadn’t busted open.
“Why don’t we go finish the assignment together?” She asked him with such softness that he melted on the spot, tilting her head in the direction of the library.
“Yeah, lets -- lets go.” He used his good hand to hold her bag for her, and opened the door.
