[PRIVATE MESSAGE] Hey, dork.
PM: Hey to you, Kitty Cat. Been a busy week. I missed you.
Halloween Party || open starter
Her eyes trailed over his expression, lingering slightly before she gave a swift shrug, chewing down on her lower lip absentmindedly. “It’s not like I’m going to have a sudden personality transplant now that I’ve got vodka in my system, idiot.” She answered with an amused chuckle, her movements jerky as she shook her head in amused disbelief. Her eyebrow quirked slightly at his statement, “You like me more than them?” She challenged, her tone dripping with cynicism. Considering his next words, she gave another lighthearted shrug, “Good point. Then again, I could have been lying to you this entire time and actually be a crazy witch hunter.”
All that Kitty wanted by that point was to fall asleep, whether that be in Ryder’s arms in the cool air or not. “Mm,” She answered vaguely, musing over her words. “I want to sleep, Ry. My head hurts.” Her mumbles were barely understandable, so to prove her point, Kitty shifted slightly in his lap and buried her head into his shoulder gently.
Ryder’s brows rose at her snappy comeback, but as usual, all he could do was laugh. He’d always have a soft spot for her after everything they’d been through together. And no matter what she said, he knew was all hiss and very little bite. He kept his eyes locked on hers with her challenging question and stared right back because he knew he was right. No one liked her the way he did. They couldn’t. “A crazy witch hunter, huh? Are you a witch who’s a hunter or hunting for witches? Cause if it’s the second, I’ll sign up for that witch life right now if it means you’re gonna come looking for me.”
His arms wrapped around Kitty as she shifted closer to him and he rubbed a hand up and down her back. “Shh, it’s alright,” he whispered as soothingly as he could. “Just rest. I’ll keep you safe.” Hopefully the party wouldn’t get too out of control and if he heard anything, he’d take care of it. But for now, Kitty was all he was tending to.

Seriously. And like I told Marley Poppins over there, you don’t gotta come if it’s gonna bother you.
I’d be mad, but she’d probably love that nickname. I’m not big on property destruction though.
Yay. How much are you not hiding it anymore?
I don’t know how to answer this question...
Your crush is showing.
Yeah, I gave up on the whole hiding it thing. I wasn’t that great at it anyway.

As they made their way outside, Kitty wasn’t entirely oblivious to the scene unfolding around her, despite the amount of alcohol she had consumed. People were staring, whispering to each other and pointing, making assumptions and she was pretty certain she saw someone take a photo of Kitty and Ryder together. Great. Now, not only did Kitty and Ryder have to deal with the new sudden feelings that they had somehow managed to find for each other - but they also had to deal with rumors circulating around the school about them. Still, the feeling of her hand intertwined into Ryder’s made things a little better, she inwardly supposed.
The fact that Ryder was keeping her in close proximity felt weirdly safe, like her protection was a priority for him, and that made Kitty’s heart flutter a little. Just a little. At his response to her previous statement, she gave a small grin, “Good. Everyone likes me, so I’m glad you’re sticking with the trends, Ry.” She teased with a chuckle, feeling the cold air push past her fast and tangle in between her hair and shivering slightly. “I’m not going to puke, don’t worry.” She scoffed with a swift eye roll.
Ryder just laughed, as amused as ever with Kitty’s sass. “Drunk or sober, you’re still the same snarky Kitty Kat I adore.” He knew the heart that laid under all the snappy comebacks though. He knew how easily someone could hurt her and that’s exactly what he wanted to prevent, as long as she’d actually let him. “I bet I like you more than them,” he challenged playfully. “Cause I actually know you.”
He rubbed at her back gently, hoping it might help keep her calm and make her feel a little better. She might not think she was going to puke, but he knew it could sneak up on her. When she shivered, he instinctively wrapped his arms around her to keep her warm. “I suggest you quit drinking for tonight. Your choice, of course. Just saying...”

So I know a guy who knows a guy and I got us an in to trash the competition. We meet at their east entrance, by the gym, at 11:00pm Wednesday night. Bring whatever shit you wanna use to trash the place. Wear gloves. No bright colors.
We go in, we do our job, we get out.
Any questions?
...seriously?

Mumbling drunken apologies as the blonde shuffled her way through the crowds, bumping into various people as she attempted to find her front door so she could breathe a little easier. Clear her mind, somehow. Being this drunk was making her irrational, perhaps, and a little over-dramatic, and while her mind was all over the place, she knew that she couldn’t embarrass herself any further. A wave of dizziness overwhelmed her as she distantly heard Ryder behind her as she turned on her heel to face him, her mind foggy.
Somewhere she must have been hearing him - even if her brain was only vaguely recalling what was going on and her eyes were starting to droop - because the next thing she knew she was nodding in somewhat understanding. “Right -” She murmured, more to herself than anything else, lowering her gaze to the ground. “I would never stop liking you, Dorkface. That’s just not possible.” With a tiny smirk, her eyes raised to meet his once again. “I’m not upset, don’t worry.”
Grasping onto his hand with somewhat finality, Kitty nodded, relieved to be going outside and away from the overcrowded nature of the party. “Let’s go.”
Relieved to see that Kitty was at least not crying or anything, Ryder let out a breath. He wasn’t sure he could live with himself if he was ever the reason that Kitty was crying. He was supposed to be her rock, her confidant. He was her best friend, no matter what else they were trying to figure out right now. And part of that was taking care of her when she needed him, which he was pretty sure now was one of those moments.
Leading the way outside, Ryder held onto her hand carefully and went over to the Wilde’s patio furniture. He took a seat in one of the chairs and guided Kitty down into his lap carefully. He had an overwhelming need to keep her close and keep her safe. “You wanna know something? I like you too,” he told her with sincerity as he tucked her hair behind her ear. “Let me know if you need to puke though, okay?”

A pair of emerald green eyes rose up to meet Ryder’s own, a combination of both confusion and somewhat hurt filling them like a clouded sky of grey. Surely if she hadn’t liked him, she wouldn’t be here right now? In a state of muddling thoughts as they overshadowed her thoughts, plaguing her as she tried to piece together why Ryder would think that not liking someone was as easy as that. As if she could just…switch off the feelings, like you turned off the light or slammed the door shut. With narrowing eyes - at least, she hoped they were relatively narrow, her mind was spinning - Kitty chewed down on her lower lip as she quietly barked, “Why would you think that?”
Releasing a small, defeated sigh, she fumbled with her hands irritably trying to connect her and Ryder’s hands together. It felt as though she needed some sort of personal, close contact with him right now. “Ry…” She mumbled while her eyes fluttered, finding herself cautiously aware of just how vulnerable she was at that moment. How vulnerable everything was. If Ryder questioned her, there was no doubt she’d spill it all out as easily as he had found it to worm his way under her skin. A flurry of thoughts overclouded her judgement almost suddenly, more than likely influenced by the intoxicating alcohol that felt like it was swirling round her brain. Why would he think that? Why did he think she wasn’t going to like him anymore? Why did he think she’d be the kind of girl who’d leave a guy just because he wouldn’t drink?
Did he even know her at all? In a faint whisper as her eyes started to fill with overthinking-caused-tears, she let out, “I need to go -” Her heartbeat was racing as she let go of the hand she was clutching and pulled away from his grasp reluctantly, turning her back on him and stumbling away through the crowd.
Ryder’s brows drew together as he watched Kitty react to him. He was still holding onto her the best that he could, but he could feel her pulling away from him and he didn’t understand. Confusion covered his face as he listened to Kitty and he quickly shook his head. He couldn’t actually get any words out though before she was wiggling away from him and trying to work her way through the crowd. Thankfully for Ryder, being sober made it a little easier for him to catch up to her.
“Hey, Kitty. Kitty,” he called until he finally reached her again and turned her around. He wanted her to be looking at him when he spoke. “Kitty Kat, look at me. Listen, I was just teasing,” he explained, hoping it would sink in even in her current state. “I didn’t mean you’d really stop liking me. I know you like me and it makes me like... stupid happy. I was just messing around, please don’t be upset.”
Glancing around, Ryder eyed the back door and took Kitty by the hand. “C’mon, Kit Kat, let’s get you some air, okay?” he encouraged, leading her through the crowd.
I think Batgirl has all the same stuff as Batman but she does it in heels.
That is pretty damn impressive. But Kitty’s pretty damn impressive, so it makes sense.

It felt like a mixture of nothing and everything, all combined into a simple, lingering kiss. Hesitant and almost fragile, but also managing to be just quite firm enough to know that it had happened. She blinked, staring at him in a somewhat tipsy gaze as he murmured something about being drunk. Ah, she inwardly concluded, he’s trying to be a gentleman. While she had been originally a little…surprised that the kiss had been so simply short, she understood regretfully why and was inwardly cursing the alcohol that had provided her courage yet had now denied her what she would have wanted sober. Great.
“You should get drunk too, you know.” She murmured with a devious grin, lifting one of the red cups that had been placed on the side beside her. “Because being the sober friend is nice, but -” She trailed off, allowing her eyes to once again roam up to meet his. “ - being drunk is a little bit better.”
Ryder wrapped a steadying arm around Kitty’s waist and held her against him. People could think whatever they wanted, it seemed they were all thinking it lately anyway, but he was most concerned with the two of them. His concentration was fully on Kitty and what she needed from him in that moment. And while she thought she needed him to get drunk with her, he had a feeling that wasn’t actually going to end up anywhere near good for either of them.
“I’m sure that would lead to a night that neither of us would remember,” he chuckled, taking the cup away from her and setting it back on the counter. “But someone around here has to be with it enough to make sure none of these jocks break any of your windows. Or something even more valuable,” he added, staring back into Kitty’s eyes carefully. He wanted to protect her in every way that he could. “You’ll still like me like this, right?”

Her eyes glittered, perhaps distantly being influenced by the alcohol that was worming its way throughout her body, making it feel like she was simultaneously herself yet so obviously not herself tonight. Somehow alcohol managed to distantly worm its way in, breaking down her defense preparations and crumble the walls of guard she had up. It made her just Kitty. That thought alone was starting to sober her a little, feeling her cheeks start to burn a familiar sensation - fear. Fear was like a poisonous snake, slithering its way through her body and making her feel numb, on edge and frightened. Yet it made her feel weak, and that feeling alone was terrifying.
Still, with a small smile of both mystery and perhaps seduction, she gave a small nod at Ryder’s question. “Perhaps there is a small special reason for why your opinion means something.” Her voice had turned into more of a husky growl, her tone lowering as she looked up at him with wide eyes. “Do you know what I think, Ryder Lynn?” she drawled slowly, tilting her head to the side. Without waiting for his response, Kitty drunkenly - yet with surprising gentleness - draped one arm around his shoulder, “I think that you should kiss me. Right now. Because I’ve really wanted to for so long.”
Ryder knew Kitty better than anyone. It may have only been a short time they’d known each other compared to some friends, but they connected somehow, in a way that Ryder knew really meant something. He could sense Kitty’s walls breaking down, but he also knew that alcohol wasn’t the way he really wanted to do that. He wanted her to be open and honest with him. He wanted her to want him, he couldn’t deny that. But he wanted her to be brave enough to do it all while she was sober.
Ryder brought a hand up to cup Kitty’s cheek gently, his thumb brushing over the soft skin there. He couldn’t bring himself to deny her a kiss though. Leaning forward, he pressed his lips to hers gently. It was soft and lingered only a moment before he pulled back and smiled at her. “I think... that you are a little bit drunk, Kitty Kat.”
Thank you. Wonder Woman’s lasdso is pretty cool.
Your lasso, my shield, Kitty’s... bat stuff. We could rule the world!
Well yeah, I figured you’d google it but really? They probably suck.
It depends on your definition of ‘sucks’.
Have you been drinking again? I told you last time that you needed to stay away from the liquor, Lynn.
Why does everyone think I’m drunk? It’s an awesome idea!
I do but I can’t say it won’t happen again. Wonder Woman, Bat Girl and Captain America… I could see it.
I believe in you. Heck yeah! We’d kick bad guy butt!
Wanky! But like…. Shakira is wanky, so…
I mean have you listened to her songs? She’s going for wanky, dude.
