Family Vacations

Our annual family vacations are probably one of my favorite things about my loving family. It's always fun, even when we are planning where we will go on our next trip. It's not like some families where the parents decide and then you pack up and head out on the road either.

My mom and dad make a point of including us in everything, and we all get together after dinner one night, and we each write on a piece a paper where we want to go, and we vote on the ideas and whichever one gets the most votes is our destination. This year I chose that I wanted to go to Seattle, I'm not sure why but I've always wanted to go there.

However; Carry-Anne's choice had the most votes, so we're heading off to Rainbow Lake RV for three weeks of fun and adventure. It sounds like a perfect place for a vacation it's full of lakes, and so many outdoor activities that we all can take part in. I was sold on the idea when my sister told me how close it was to Yellowstone Park. I hope I get to see some wildlife like a bear or even a moose; that would be awesome!

My dad loves our RV, I think if he had it his way he would retire a few years early and sell the house and take us all on a cross-country RV trip and explore as much of the country as we possibly could. It doesn’t sound bad but that’s a long time to spend with each other, surely we’d get on each other’s nerves even though we get along so well.

Well guys I guess I should get going I have to get ready for my clarinet lessons and let's face it I think I need them.

The Phone Call

My parents are pretty awesome! I really am lucky; they never yell at us even when we probably deserve it. They've always taught us to be kind to one another. I remember when I was about ten years old I did something pretty bad! I asked my mom if I could go to my friend Angela's house to go play a new game that just came out on PlayStation, she flat out told me no because I had homework to do. I pouted and complained and continued to nag her.

She didn't budge, and so I ran up to my bedroom, slammed the door and sulked for about half an hour. After considering what I should do, I decided to sneak out of my bedroom window and go to Angela's house no matter what my mother said. Needless to say, I got to Angela's house, and right away her mom invited me in and told me I had a phone call. I knew right away that I was caught, and it was my mother.

I was kind of scared because I had no idea what was going to happen. Up until that point, I had never disobeyed my parents before. She told me that she was very disappointed in me and that we would have a long discussion when I got home. I told her I'm sorry mom; I'm coming home now. To my surprise, she said not to rush back and to enjoy spending time with Angela because it wouldn't happen again. I just thought my mom was pretty cool for saying that but then when I got home I realized how disappointed she was in me. That was the last time I disobeyed my parents because that disapproving look on my mom's face really taught me that disappointing your loved ones can be hurtful.

Me and My Siblings

My oldest sister's name is Carry-Anne, and she's 20 years old. For as long as I can remember I've always looked up to her the most. In a way, she's like my hero. She's smart, beautiful and kind to everyone she meets. She's studying Law at the community college where we live. My parents tried to convince Carry to go to an Ivy League school because they thought it would be in her best interest but she refused because she is quite happy living here with us, and I'm so grateful because I think I would go crazy without seeing her every day.

She's such a good big sister and no matter how busy she is she always seems to make time for my other sister and me. Last week, after they were finished their classes they picked me up after school and took me out for dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant and then we went to see an old movie at the cinema, called ' Eight Angry Men.' Have you ever heard of it? It was in black and white and a bit hard to follow but I did find it quite interesting.

My dad always said I had an old spirit. Spending time with my sister’s was nice, and those are the moments that I look forward to the most just me and my sisters. My other sister's name is Margret she's 18, and she just started college this year. I don't spend that much time with her these days because she's so busy getting used to college life. She's studying Anthropology; I'm not even entirely sure what that is, but it sounds really interesting. It also sounds like there is a lot of reading and studying, involved but I guess that's like any course you take in college.

Family Life

I come from what I guess you would say as a not so typical family. By saying that I mean that to me it doesn't seem normal. Let me explain, you see almost all of my friends come from families that have separated, 'broken homes' I guess you could say.  

Only me and my friend Alice have parents that aren't divorced, isn't that crazy? So yeah, I feel like the odd one out in a way because most of my friends have all of these awful stories of being separated from their siblings or their mom and dad and I feel terrible for them. I try not to talk about my family that much because it seems like I'm bragging but I'm really not. I just have a happy family life.

I'm the youngest of three girls, and both of my sisters are in college, but they still live at home. Not because they can't afford to live on campus grounds but because I think they really like living at home still. We don't actually fight a lot, don't get me wrong we have a sisterly squabble every once and awhile, but it's nothing ever big, and we usually end up forgiving each other within an hour or so.

My parents are both doctors, and they have really busy schedules, but they work in the same practice, so they see each other all the time.  Even though they're around each other 24/7, I never hear them argue, so I guess whatever they're doing works for their relationship. I don’t even think they’ve ever had a little disagreement. It's odd because I think we're dysfunctional sometimes because we're so different from most of my friends' families. I guess I should be happy, though because my family life really is a good one.

Shy Times

Good morning, my name is Joslin. Welcome to my blog! Today is my day off of school, and I have no homework, so I figured this would be a very good time to work finally on writing a blog. I hope you like it; I don't know if you'll find my life that interesting because I am just a preteen, but then again if you're reading this as an adult perhaps it will make you reminisce about your childhood.

I don't know what it is about writing, but I love it! I guess you might say that it is one of my passions in life, well that and playing the clarinet. I've been playing the clarinet since I was seven so I'd like to think I'm pretty good at it even though I belt out a few high pitched squeaks every now and then. Band practice is always fun, but I dread the times when our teacher tells us that we need to do a solo in front of the class. I'm a bit shy and too me standing up in front of our entire class playing a tune is so embarrassing. Whether I make a mistake in my solo or not - it's mortifying.

I'm glad that our school semester is almost finished. I'm going to be attending summer camp for the first time but just for a few weeks than my family and I are heading out for our annual family vacation. Last year we went to Nevada where we camped out for a week. It was great, but the heat was too intense for me. I'm not sure where we're going this year, but I hope it's not as hot!
