cooper luca monroe was born and raised in windsor bay to a single mother. his father, an unnamed man that had been passing through the small town, never entered his life. that should've bothered him, but it never did, because his mother showed him that the only thing that mattered was the family that showed up for you.
cooper never knew his grandparents and his mother was an only child. none of that ever really bothered him, not even when the house got quiet on the nights his mother worked late to make sure he never wanted for anything. even with her busy schedule, she never missed a single game, home or away, and was always encouraging him.
he was a running back on his high school football team and he sat a record during his senior year for the most return yards ran by a single player in a season. he could've gone to college on scholarship, but coop knew what he wanted to do and so at eighteen years old, he made a big jump, again, with his mother's encouragement.
he moved to california with a friend from high school that was going to school there. they shared an apartment and while his friend got an education, coop went through the fire academy.
when he got the call from his mother that she was sick, he offered to come home, but she urged him not to. little did he know, her illness was terminal and not even a whole year later, he was getting a call in the middle of a shift, a notification that his mother had passed peacefully.
within weeks, he was packed up and back in windsor bay. his mother had left him his childhood home, stating that he could sell or keep it, but the choice was his. six months later and he still hasn't made a final decision, but he's kept his life there and he's joined the local firehouse to try and find stability again.

cooper holds the record as most yards returned in high school football. even well into his thirties, it's something he likes to bring up when he's being an ass.
he loves to cook. since the guys at the firehouse take turn making "family" dinners, he has learned a lot of dishes over the years.
he has a dog named storm. it's a stray he rescued during a bad storm three years ago when he was firefighting back in california.

ex-girlfriend. maybe someone he dated in high school? or could be someone he's dated since returning back to windsor bay. he's not good at talking about feelings and sharing his grief, so it could've been the reason they broke up.
grief companion. someone that he finally opens up to. this would be down the line. maybe they've lost someone themselves, but eventually, it's something they share and it means he works towards his communication skills.
