TOP FIVE
I thought it might be handy to keep a running list of my top 5 Vines (based on likes & re-vines) at the top of my Tumblr. Mind you, many of these Vines were created BEFORE Vine launched "re-vine."
Check out the list here.

Besides loving NYC, I love history. Sometimes when waiting at a crosswalk or for a subway train, I can’t help but wonder what it was like in that spot 20, 50, or even 100 years beforehand.
While the research for this project has been a bitch at times, it’s been really fun and rewarding. A large-scale scavenger-hunt of sorts. Each Vine is found archival footage of NYC, matched as closely as possible to each original shooting location. Enjoy. (I know I have.)

Super-Sizing.
After six hours of building the largest IKEA object in my apartment, I thought "what better way to celebrate being done than by animating it?!" So I did. And the result actually looks like a great product demonstration for IKEA. Really, I just wanted to see if I could animated something HUGE. And I did. Good job, me.
Getting Political
I can't say I've really ever used art to express my political feelings. This might actually be my first time. When I first heard that Zimmerman was acquitted, it really surprised me. I didn't expect it at all.
And when I went online and saw how emotional everyone was over the outcome of the trial, it actually got me pretty fired up. Yes, cathartically, I think I needed to animate this one for myself... but for everyone else too. Coincidentally, this Vine has been revined more than any other I've done to date.
The Psychological Crisis of a Terd
Ok. Before you judge me for animating something on my toilet, know that I own and used a lot of anti-bacterial products before production.
I love animism. And I wondered if I could capture an emotional journey of something no one really wants to think about. I'm actually really proud of how this turned out (aside from my hand appearing towards the beginning). He's one pretty darn expressive poo.
AUDIO + ANIMATION TEST, TAKE 3.
Listening back to Baby Elephant Walk at 60bpm, I realized there wasn't going to be a whole lot I could do about the staccato nature of the audio. So, I thought about songs that are inherently staccato/pizzicato. Flight of the Bumblebee seemed like a natural choice.
Was really please with how this turned out... except for the audio sync, which is clearly very, very off. I recorded sound on every frame of this piece -- and you'll notice motion with no sound at the end. Can't wait for Vine to fix this!
AUDIO + ANIMATION TEST, TAKE 2.
A second try at “Baby Elephant Walk" was much more successful. I cut my bpm in half and - boom - it was much more obvious what song it was. Audio sync is still super off, but hopefully the Vine team can fix this problem sooner rather than later.
AUDIO + ANIMATION TEST, TAKE 1.
The one thing I’ve neglected most in my little animation quickies has been sound. It’s just been too daunting. However, I found myself with a little free time over the holiday weekend and decided to see if my calculations were correct. Could I convert sheet music at a decided bpm into each animated frame?
This first trial was at 120+ bpm. Way too fast. Henry Mancini’s “Baby Elephant Walk" sounds more like “flight of the bumblephant."
What’s more is that even though I played wall-to-wall music from beginning to end, there is silence while the character is moving. The audio sync is way off and I’m hoping Vine fixes this issue soon.
Michael Jackson, Pencils.
After animating "The Carlton," I started thinking about some of the best, most iconic dance moves ever. Nothing beats the King of Pop, and it seemed like an incredible challenge -- his movements are so subtle and come out of nowhere. It's not perfect, but I did a rough pencil of Michael's dance to Billie Jean, including the Moonwalk.
"The Carlton Dance," Take 2. Pencils.
Yes. Another crack at the Carlton Dance. When I showed my first take on it to friends, a couple said I should have made it longer -- to really show him getting into it. His hip-motion is what really makes this dance funny. So I added another 30 frames and re-shot it. Also added detail to his neckline. Carlton always needed his oxford collar and v-neck sweater.
Got a shout-out from the Tribeca Film Festival on my Vines! (3 are featured on their blog post). I didn't submit my submissions correctly, but they told me they really liked my work and wanted to post it. So cool of them. Much appreciated.
The Joys of Summer, Clay.
"The Carlton Dance," Take 1. Pencils.
Very rough pencil animation of "The Carlton Dance." May do a longer, cleaned-up version soon.
Featured on Mashable!
Just for kicks, I submitted the Jack Rabbit Slim's Vine for Mashable's second Vine contest. The theme was "Three's a Crowd."
Here's a link to Mashable's article.
My entry is the 6th one down the page.
No prize. Just the satisfaction of knowing my irrational obsession with Vine has paid off sorta kinda. :-)
Just another motion-study. This time, a loop of a BBoy.
