The writers of Buffy messed up the lore at various points, but I think the silliest way they did it was definitely when they established that vampires CAN move around in daylight but only if they have a blanket over their head and go "yeouch ouch owie" the whole time

I've seen it said before that buffyverse vamp lore is VERY consistent if you bear in mind that

A. Everything Angel says about vampires is self-serving, and whether or not it's true is irrelevant to him as long as it serves his purpose and makes people do what he wants them to while making him seem like less of a monster

B. The Watchers Council is essentially a propaganda machine designed to scare young teenage girls into fighting their battles for them because there's always been cowardly men in this world and there always will be

Thinking about how Thomas started the series wanting to be the valet of a man he cared about and got rejected, and now he’s ending the series the “valet” of a man who adores him

Right. I’ve also seen others posting about this lately and I think they are very, Very correct. Gay men as sexual predators, pedophiles, etc. are some of the nastiest and most pervasive stereotypes out there, and that is not something just confined to history books. The “Groomer” narrative towards queer people is extraordinarily popular at the moment among politicians and other conservative mouthpieces, for one; turn on any kind of right-wing news and BAM! all queer people are out grooming children. The way some people have grabbed this stereotype and ran with it, celebrating that this in fact is a much better explanation for Guy! this is the turn the story SHOULD have taken! this is the ONLY narrative that makes sense! really gets my goat.

As someone who still loves Richard to death and /is actively writing barris fic on ao3/ I realize this is far from everyone, but it’s a damn large number, I’ll say that!!!

I know that all of us who love Thomas want to see him happy in the way we think best, and if the canonical ending doesn’t work for you in the film, that’s fine. That’s normal. AU fic is something I enjoy writing and reading myself. HOWEVER, the fact that this pedophile fic is currently one of The Most Popular? What the hell? It honestly leaves a gross taste in my mouth to see it.

I’m not about to police who’s queer or who isn’t or do anything dumb like that, but I will say this: if you’re queer and think Guy being a sexual predator is the best thing ever, read up on your history, read up on current events, take a step back and look at how you are being vilified and slandered by powerful right-wing media across the world still today, and if you aren’t queer? check your homophobia, check your biases, check your instincts on how you react to queer media.

Also if you can explain to me //objectively// how a touch on the lips is that crazy different from a touch on the lapel, but my guest, but if you honestly think they’re that different, I’d say you’re being pretty //subjective// on the matter. Thomas looks pleased as punch in both scenes, perhaps you simply don’t vibe with one of them (which again!! is fine!! but it doesn’t mean the person you don’t vibe with has to be a pedophile!! maybe you just don’t vibe!!)

The source was the girl sound man Duncan solicited who has long, long since left. I’m not going to post her username here seeing as she hasn’t been in the fandom for a very long time and probably doesn’t need to be dragged into old memories. I’m sure if you went back far enough in the tag (to like, what? 2013-14?) you’d find something, but I’m not going to do that labour for you. It was just a heads up.
