What stage of durgetash brainrot is "Writing sad double-column poetry"
A visit from a devil you know.
I will never understand the hate for grey hairs. Your hair has sliver in it now. You have the color of stars on your hair. You have proof you survived and grew up. You have proof you are living. How is any of this bad?
It's bothering me that my hair isn't greying fast enough
the way these two make me unwell is unmatched

I really love the idea of The Dark Urge, who's on the road to redemption, actually being pushed into an Alliance with Gortash when they reunite in Act 3 affer the way their companions react to the reveal.
Because EVERYONE (barring Astarion cause hes understandably grateful actually lol, but he still calls u evil) is fucking appalled by the reveal. Karlach outright doesn't even want to look at you, which is MORE than understandable given how one of the closest people to her is getting the heart eyes from Gortash. Gale doesn't want to speak to you, Jaheira is starting to doubt and is horrified because you're not just a Bhaalspawn. But THE Bhaalspawn.
And think about it from Durge's perspective. Through dialogue choices there's option for Durge to come across as...slightly hopeless. They condemn themselves in a very self deprecating manner in some dialogue. But the one thing that makes them want to do better, is to do right by the people around them. To be a better person for them.
But here, their friends are condemning them. Yelling at Durge for being the mastermind, and as someone said in a GREAT post I'll need to track down, All this alienates Durge from their party, potentially reinstating Durge's self-hatred that they're beyond hope, and suddenly...Gortash is the only friendly face in the room.
Regardless if it's intentional on Gortash's part to alienate Durge. Here is this man who knows you, showers you in compliments but it's not...fake. not in the way you would expect from the sleazy man. He is genuinely HAPPY to see you. The first person...ever, to be genuinely happy to see you. (Because you're awful and no one is ever happy to see you rock up) AND he's got all the answers to your past.
Meanwhile behind you. Everyone is seeing you for the monster you've been telling them you are. The monster you FEAR you are.
You suddenly feel alone amongst faces you call friends. They look at you and are repulsed. And yes, of course they are. You're the Dark Urge. Murder incarnate. Why wouldn't they? And with how harsh some companions can be in this scene (again understandably) I can see a real argument for Durge losing all motivation to redeem themselves potentially. They were doing it for their friends and now their friends hate them.
But Gortash? Gortash knows Durge for the monster they are and yet they greet them like an old friend. They ARE old friends. Gortash knows the worst of Durge and yet he can't seem to wipe that smile off his face talking to them.
Maybe this is where Durge was always supposed to wind up.
'we could be good for each other'
(not really)
There's hesitation in his eye for one moment. A passing thought of all times spent together you'll never remember.
Larian doesn't want us to romance Gortash, but it seems Gortash wants to romance us...
Shovel says fuck the authority
(part 2)
"The likes of you could stand to benefit from the likes of me."
Meeting Gortash, with a little spoonful of elf jealousy.
A deeply fucked up Durge who romanticizes death because murder victims are grieved and cherished regardless of how unloved they were in life. A Durge who has experienced this tragic loss so many times that it becomes a defining moment in all of their relationships, yet knows no one will ever mourn them (ie truly love them) in return.
A Durge whose darkest desire is to be missed. And they will never know that kind of love, even if they succeed, because they must outlive every person who could possibly grieve their loss.
Gortash missed them.
Lets talk about Stillmaker, Durge’s other canon blade
Okay, so we already know that Durge had the Bloodthirst dagger which was created from Bhaal’s own blood and carried by his chosen.
But there is another dagger in the game you can find that also canonically belonged to Durge, Stillmaker.
We see Stillmaker portrayed in Dark Urge’s official artwork, and it’s also Durge’s blade in Idle Champions, as you can see.
I’ve noticed that Stillmaker matches Bloodthirst in design, but it is conspicuously green, as opposed to every other Bhaalian weapon I’ve seen which are red.
You know who else’s canon weapon has the same green coloring? Gortash. And who is the color green associated with? Bane. Stillmaker looks like it was made in the same design to Gortash’s crossbow.
I posit then, that being close to one another as they were, Gortash either made or commissioned Stillmaker to match with Bloodthirst and gifted it to Durge. It’s far more his style in looks, and I feel it’s something he would have done as he describes Durge as his nearest and dearest, and we know they worked very closely together and admired one another.
It truly makes my Durgetash heart flutter!
EDIT: Here is a close up of the weapons together in game!
EDIT #2: We were discussing on discord yesterday, Orin would have of course kept the Bloodthirst blade after dispatching Durge because it’s made of Bhaal’s blood and carried by his Chosen, but she would not have wanted some sugary gift from her sibling’s Ex and probably tossed it away and Dolor ended up with it, and that’s how it ended up in his stash.
EDIT #3: @arikandkade made an EXCELLENT addition to this theory and I’m adding it because it’s just such great information, thank you so much for this info!
"The monsters of my play-fights were strong, vicious. Trolls with hulking muscles, werewolves with sharpened fangs. But the greatest villains I've faced? They look more like you and me than they do the beasts of my fantasies."
also a poem from the new, unreleased collection. very possibly my own all-time favourite.
A poem a day. Day 2
Prompt: tell me you’re not okay without saying I’m not okay.
All the oxygen in the room
Suddenly turns into water.
And I wonder
If I have what it takes to grow gills.
I inhale deeply.
Praying for a miracle.
Relief floods my body,
As my lungs expand.
Exhale,
I watch intently.
Bubbles bloom from my lips
And ascend to the surface.
It seems
I’ve already drowned.
