khun and physical touch | short analysis
I've seen a few posts about Khun lately that made me think about his relationship with physical touch. More specifically, about physical touch as Khun's love language.
It's no news that Khun is a very touchy person, especially with Bam, and while a lot of it is fanservice in the anime, it's not exclusive to it.
And all of it is mostly always initiated by Khun.
This is just my opinion, but I've been thinking about it, and what if physical touch gives Khun comfort because he's a person that can't trust words or actions? Words are deceptive, he knows it better than anyone, and actions more often than not are too in the tower. For Khun, the only display of genuinety he has for his most meaningful person, is touching Bam.
There's a few other details about Khun and physical touch that are interesting to me. I saw someone on Twitter mention this before, but sadly I can't remember who was it. A lot of Khun's physical touch is touching Bam's shoulder, mainly putting his hand there, and he might have gotten that habit from his mother.
The only flashback we have from her, she's holding his shoulder from behind. Khun might be subconciously replicating this gesture, which is a big angst potential given how disconnected and displeased Khun feels from his mother. He can reject her influence all he wants, but she had a huge influence on him (not only in this regard), and he can't deny that subconsciously.
Going off topic for a bit, Khun expressively rejects his mother's education. I need to talk about this scene for a second because I never saw anyone mention it and, to me, it's very telling.
Sure, Khun was abandoned, but he received an education from his mother, even if it was manipulative and unhealthy. Khun rejects his mother's education on a deep level despite retaining habits from her, and despite the influence his family had on him. At least, that's how I see it. I could ramble about this more, but I don't wanna go off topic, I might someday make another analysis on Khun and go deeply into this.
Going back to Khun and physical touch, we also have his backstory with Maria. When he reflects on it and how he wasn't able to ask Maria to take him with her, he extends his hand to her inside his mind.
Adding to this, we have Khun's monologue, where he is also reaching out.
He feels the physical distance, the restraint from touching and having the person he wants to have, and so with Bam, he initiates that contact again and again, to feel him by his side and to remind Bam that he's there, too. That he's chosen to climb with him, and that he will again and again.
To me, Khun's physical touch is more than simple affection, it's a conscious choice to stay with a person by his own will, and also the proof of everything he's always been, of his backstory and current person.
EDIT: I forgot to add a small detail I really love, too. Definitely, physical contact is releevant to Khun, even negatively.
