It didn't make any difference how many times he told himself that he did need to return to the project he had snuck away from, nor Al-Haitham pointing out multiple times those same reasons he'd already thought of. None of it made a single dent in the knot of anxiety and fear that had tangled itself around his heart.

And so he kept stubbornly pushing back against him.
