who would make a whole au based on one video from a channel that doesnt even exist anymore? hahaha can you imagine,,, couldn't be me :]

...anyway, i'm currently writing a comic/au for an idea i got after the unus annus escape room video (rip) and i wanted to share this because this would be one step towards a huge fan/au project i've had in the works for awhile now but i'm too scared to post because i don't know if anyone will like it. so this is just to test the waters, basically before i invest myself into something of that caliber.

the au involves our boys - you know them, you love them - being thrown into a criminal minds-esque murder case as detectives who are trying to solve the kidnappings of multiple people thanks to one Edward Tandy

Ethan is a fresh face to the force and this would be his first "offical" case- he ends up being stuck with Mark; Matt and Nate are also detectives on this little rag tag team that end up getting pulled into everything

Sean is the tech analyist- think garcia and abby mixed together; he handles the behind the scenes tech work that the other lads aren't paid enough to do

i hope you guys end up liking this idea- this would be my first fan comic i've ever made and i'm extreamly nervous about it, but i did want to share it ( since it wasn't even supposed to be a comic in the first place but a fanfic on ao3 )

I actually agree with that tweet that was going around (by ex-tumblr user Amina btw) about how tumblr is now one of the calmer places to be on the internet. Tumblr is quiet now, and lonely. Obviously it still has elements of the madness it always did but here it’s up to you what you tune in and out for. All other social media is monetised and manipulated for maximum anxiety and stimulation at all time. Twitter has it’s sidebar of awful global news co-mingled with celebrity gossip nothingness, stan twitter hashtags and #X-person is cancelled/ #X-is over party. Instagram has replaced where the post button had been for them for years with a fucking shop button. I haven’t gone near facebook in a long time but i don’t need to explain to any of you how bad it is. 

The reason so many of us have stuck with tumblr for so long is because it is impossible for them to monetise (none of us have any money anyway) and despite the thousands upon thousands of hours that each of us may have put in it doesn’t have an obvious valuable output - no one can immediately see how many followers you have or any actual impact you have, unless they themselves are willing to be a part of whatever it is that’s going on on the dashboard. 

I suppose I’ve learnt from being excised from tumblr for so long that you have to appreciate how great the buffer is on this website in comparison to the constant psychological warfare that facebook, instagram and twitter wage on all their users, and in turn their users wage on one another. The over-exposure to this insidiously designed advertising that ramps up the more you go on the app - the more it knows you are desperate for content; and the over-exposure to far too many other people and opinions that lead to unnecessary ideological warfare. 

Tumblr by comparison is a haven. They don’t throw politics and sinisterly targeted adverts at you - because they don’t know how. And they don’t need to throw other people’s posts at you because they know how irrelevant we all are here anyway.

An abridged history of Miss Officer and Mr. Truffles

A photo of a Canadian RCMP officer taking a pic of a young bear makes the news in 2011.

The photo gets famous on Tumblr in late 2013. Someone in the reblog suggests that it’d make a great cartoon:

An artist (lemonteaflower) creates 4 pieces of single panel art of the imagined cartoon about the officer and the bear. lemonteaflower titles it “Miss Officer and Mr Truffles.”

The ‘Miss Officer and Mr Truffles’ art inspires other artists to make fan art as well.

There’s drawings and animations and theme music and fanfic. There is an au crossover prompt. There is headcanon about the fancanon. THERE ARE NEW CHARACTERS. There are fandom complaints about how the attention to Miss Officer and Mr Truffles isn’t as big as it should be (deservedly so.)

This is an entire fan ecosystem grown out in a matter of hours, all without official canon (h/t Mike Rugnetta for the framework.)

Oh yeah, and thanks to DailyDot, the RMCP officer created a Tumblr just to say hi and show her appreciation.

This is beautiful and fascinating.

the op, whose name is currently "captain a.c.a.b.", is jeffrey cranor, writer of popular podcast "welcome to night vale"

the quote retweet is cecil baldwin, voice of said podcast, "welcome to night vale"

the tweet is liked by noelle stevenson, showrunner/creator of popular netflix show "she ra and the princesses of power"

the joke itself is comparing the tulsa trump rally to tumblr dashcon, which is a circa-2014 tumblr joke

which implies that all three of these internet pseudo celebs found the dashcon joke funny enough to like/retweet/quote-retweet im reeling

WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE WAS SCHEDULED TO PERFORM AT DASHCON YALL THEY PULLED OUT BUT THEY WERE THERE

They weren’t just there, they are indirectly the reason “an extra hour in the ball pit” became a meme. 

See, there was supposed to be a WTNV live show at Dashcon, and admittance to it cost an additional $15 on top of the Dashcon ticket price. When the Night Vale crew got there, they were informed that the organizers did not have the money to pay them, so Cecil refused to perform. 

Naturally then, the people who had paid for the show started demanding refunds of their $15. But the organizers claimed they didn’t have the money to offer refunds either, and instead offered to let those ticket holders spend an extra hour in the ball pit as a form of reimbursement. There were several posts going around about this, and the famous photo above was taken to illustrate how pathetic of an offer this was. And that’s how the Dashcon ball pit went down in infamy.

there's another layer to this: noelle stevenson was an invited special guest at dashcon too. she had to moderate her own panel, and even worse - the con organizers didn't pay for a hotel room for her, so she had to crash on the pull out couch in... the night vale team's room.

so all of these people were in one room, at dashcon, getting screwed over by dashcon. this is a digital recreation of that hotel room 6 years later.
