“This doesn’t seem practical, Your Highness,”
You ignore them as you sign your name down at the bottom. “It doesn’t matter what I think. I’m doing this for the safety of the kingdom,”
You hear a vicious laugh from across the room as the goddess materialized out of thin air. You look up from the contract you just signed with a look of fear in your eyes. Your Court Advisor freezes next to you and the guards by your door put a hand on their sword handles. You remain as calm as you can, as the goddess slowly takes steps toward you, her deep skin glistening as if dusted with gold.
They licked their lips and stopped in front of you, sitting on your desk. They pulled their legs up to drape them over the side like they were on display for the whole world to see. Power pulsated off of their body and you almost felt faint; as if you were about to fall if the chair wasn’t holding you up. You loved the feeling; you wanted to get closer and closer to them, but you knew, deep down, you couldn’t.
“So you’ve accepted my proposal, Your Majesty,”
You nodded. “My kingdom is yours to command. What a goddess would want-”
“Ah ah ah,” she shook her finger at you, leaning in closer. You could smell her intoxicating perfume and it held you fast; you said not a word unless she said you could speak. “You don’t need to think of what a goddess like me needs with your army; I said I needed it and you gave it to me,”
“Not because she wanted to!” Your Court Advisor yelled. You shot her a look but the spell of silence was broken. “You tricked her into thinking this was what was best for her!”
The goddess threw their head back and laughed. It sent a shiver down your spine and you ached for more. “You’re funny, Thisea.” the goddess got off the desk and frowned.
There was a flash of pink light and then you hear a sharp crunching sound and then a thud. Warm blood seeped into your dress and you gasped, not daring to look. But the goddess gently grabbed your chin with her wet hand, leaving marks of fresh blood on your face.
Your Court Advisor was laying dead on the floor, a huge gaping hole in his chest. You felt tears fall out of your eyes as the goddess tilts your chin up so they can look at you. They were holding Thisea’s still beating heart in their other hand; blood fell to the floor.
“You should keep a better leash on your animals, Aralyse,” she said, her eyes glowing pink. “Or else all their deaths will be on your hands.” She dropped the heart onto your desk as she walked away, the blood spreading through the paper of your contract, mixing with tears as you sobbed.
