when I was a kid my dad (who had taken on the Role of Family Photographer, back when cameras that used film were still The Thing That Type Of Guy Had Mostly) took a bunch of the little plastic containers you'd keep film canisters in & filled each one with a different kind of Beads & put them all in a little clear Storage Bin for me so I could easily play with many many kinds of Beads, and have them stay organized by Type, & the lids on the little containers snapped on nice and tight so they weren't likely to spill all over the fucking place when I wasn't using them. this was an S-tier genius-level parenting maneuver; I liked it SO much & was occupied for many hours over the course of however long just makin bracelets or whatever in my room. enjoying Colorful Plastic. those translucent 3-prongèd ones were among my favorites, obviously.

My mom kept everything she’s found in the washing machine the past ten years and made it into an art piece. It’s basically an awesome portrait of what it’s like for two girls growing up in the late 90s/early 2000s.

so now that the dog is allowed to sleep wherever at night & therefore doesn't have his bedtime routine of getting voluntarily lured into the crate anymore, he has instead started campaigning for me to go and shower after he goes outside around 8 so that he can lay in front of the bedroom door while I'm in there. he wants to be in front of the bedroom door so bad because he's so sleepy and loves corners and it's dark and cool but if there's not A Sheeps on the other side for him to guard what's the POINT!!!!!!

I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with

But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy

Finally bought some dye and have been having so much fun with optical color mixing. I decided to start with cmyk primaries to get some vibrant color options.

So far I've only mixed up the main batch of colors, but I'll split them up and create a palatte of tints and shades once I have access to a scale again.

I don't have any fancy tools and have been blending the fiber by hand, so it's probably best I have a forced break for the sake of my fingers. Once I'm done I should have a very useful set of 57 2g swatches to play with! (Plus 5 more for a set of grayscale swatches)

If I'm still up for it, I might repeat the whole thing with my classic red, yellow, blue primary dye set. For a truly massive set of heather swatches.

You talking about behaviour and like... nonverbal communication and conversation with animals really made smthn click for me. So. I've always had a fondness in my heart for dogs that are, in other people's words, "stubborn" or "independent" or "hard to train". Previously I just worded my reasons for liking them as "you really need to have a connection". And now I realize it's because I really like the fact that those are animals who /demand/ you to have an actual conversation with them and make compromises and come to an understanding with them. It's such a different vibe from a more "people-pleasing" dog and I love how deep of a connection you need to have with those... let's call them negotiator dogs. Nedogiators? Bad portmanteau. Anyway yay I have words for it now :]

i know exactly what you mean, Lambchop was like this. there's just something about putting the work in and seeing it pay off. like seeing the dog be like "I am disinclined to do the thing you want me to do because frankly I don't see what's in it for me bc I don't trust you like that" and then you have to get it to trust you by persistently treating it like a being with opinions and desires and a drive for autonomy. :)
