rodriguez-jessie:
“Rude. And here I was down to be your sugar mama once my acting career sky rocketed.” Harper said with a laugh. “Cory, come on i’m not a total animal, not everything is about sex with me. I mean it is about eighty percent of the time but the other twenty i at least try to control myself around you. “ She laughed. “I got it though. You don’t want to get any anymore, that’s fine.” She joked.
“I just don’t think it’s something I’d be good at because I know they always expect something in return for everything they give.” Cory laughed loudly, unable to stop the bright smirk from lighting up his features. that was one of the main reasons he loved Harper; she could always make him laugh. “Totally not what I said. I just need to be warm before anything else happens. Besides, I’m super hungry and how awkward would it be if my stomach growled halfway through?”
wyattsaugis:
“Yeah, I guess that makes some sense. But the girls? I mean, isn’t that a whole thing? Girls love drummers? They’re almost always the hottest band member, after all. It’s like, science.” She laughed, knowing nearly everyone in her family would have cringed at that scientific connection. “I always wanted to learn how to play something like drums or bass but I had absolutely zero discipline as a kid and my dad wanted to let me do whatever I wanted to do when I wanted to do it so i have a lot of half-learned hobbies and skills thanks to that.” She smiled, nodding at him while she looked at the screen to give him a break from the direct compliments. “Anytime, man. I’m happy to be the ego boost you need if you’re ever doubting.”
“It is but all the attention makes me more nervous than anything else. One on one I can handle it but when there’s big groups of them and they’re screaming I can just feel my blood pressure starting to shoot up. As long as you have half learned hobbies I think I can help you finish mastering it. Or at least get to a level where you can learn on your own from there on out. I used to volunteer with helping the middle school guitar group after school program so I’m a decent teacher. If you want to get out a good amount of energy we’ll go drums and if you want something that sounds coo l we can stick with a bass.” The idea of teaching someone again was more than enough to help him relax, knowing that wasn’t something he could seriously screw up considering just how long he’d been doing it. “I’m alright for now but I’ll let you know if I ever sink too low in the trenches. I don’t think I mentioned it before but I’m Cory.”
wyattsaugis:
“Sorry, sorry.” She leaned toward him and rested her hand on his arm for a moment. “I didn’t mean to fangirl on you or whatever, I just feel like an idiot for not placing you sooner.” Noah was taught to be sympathetic to others’ feelings from a young age so she could tell she’d surprised him with the excitement at who he was. That just made her self-correct as quickly as she could to make him comfortable again. “That’s so interesting, really. I have no idea what I’m doing with my life but I know for a fact it won’t be anything cool and creative like that so I’m so jealous that you can write music and all that.” She gave him a genuine smile, nodding at the computer. “It’s really good, too. Words and all.”
“No you’re fine. It’s just been a long time since I ran into someone who actually didn’t try to hold back their inner fangirl. Usually it comes out more around the other two than it does with me so... I dunno. It was nice. At least you placed me eventually. I figure it’s hard to recognize me without two sticks in front of my face.” He shook his head, his eyes shifting towards the laptop again as he settled. “Well if you ever need help with anything I’m here for it. But it’s easier if you know how to read or play something first.” Cory chewed on the inside of his cheek as the next video started to play, thankful he had some distraction for a few more seconds before he smiled back in her direction. “Thank you. That means a lot.”
rodriguez-jessie:
“Oh so you don’t want to be my sugar daddy?” She joked as she reached up to set her hand on his cheek. “Yeah, yeah. You mean you just wanted to remind everyone of what they can’t have. Alright. So how about we go out and get you a hot chocolate or something? Cause I don’t think either of us can or should trust me enough in the kitchen. Alone anyways.”
“Not really, no. Why would I care if you remind people of that.?” he cocked his head to the side curiously. If Harper wanted to show off then she would. He’d just learned to look the other way instead of letting it bother him over time. Or at least that’s what he liked to think. “I’m so glad you didn’t take that somewhere else because that’s exactly what I meant.”
wyattsaugis:
“Well, there you go. You’re being way more productive with your time than I probably ever will be.” She laughed, leaning over to click on one of the videos, her eyes lighting up with recognition when she saw them. “Wait, you’re in The Alchemists? I’ve seen you guys live before, you’re so good!” She wasn’t sure how she hadn’t recognized it before but now that she realized who she was talking to she was even more interested in his music talk. “Do you write songs mostly yourself or is it a collaborative thing with your band?”
“Uh thanks. I’ll pass word along to Alejandro and Amber.” Cory’s cheeks burned bright red at the sudden attention. It was just another sign that he was better off in the group than being alone like he’d tried the first time around. At least with the others he felt a sense of safety knowing they were all in it together. At the end of the day that’s what kept him calm. “Depends on the song honestly. We each write some of our own stuff then collab for others, but my favorite way to do it is tweaking just because I have a hard time finishing what someone else started unless it’s the music aspect of it all. This was all me though.”
harry-weinstein:
Portrait.. Uh, portrait type things, usually. I can do scenery alright, though.
Well that’s cool. I’ve never been able to draw to save my life.
ohjoellefarkas:
“Is this your unofficial offer for asking me to be your future manager?” he asked, jokingly. “You know I’ve always enjoyed your music but I definitely have to say this new sound you’re experimenting with is by far my favorite. But I don’t know if you want to trust a guy with Cauliflower ear.”
You know it. The guy with cauliflower ear knows his shit and would call me out if it sucked so I think I’ll listen to his opinion. Besides, he’s my best friend. If I can’t impress him I can’t impress anyone.
And even in the greatest moment doubt The line between deceit and right now…
l-jackson:
“Aww come on, okay, okay no more teasing. Well if that’s what you want then of course I’ll do it. I can’t say no to you and I love this beat so I can already get down to it. How long have you been working on it?”
You can’t say no to me unless your new boyfriend is around. I have the feeling sooner or later I’m going to get ditched so you can get it. [He nudged his shoulder against hers playfully.] Just a month or so.
rodriguez-jessie:
“But what am I supposed to do when I want something? Just depend on you to go all sugar daddy on me?” Harper could sense that her job put him off a little based on how awkward he got whenever she brought it up. But she liked it and it was one of the only places she could see herself not being totally miserable. She wasn’t going to give that up for anyone, she had been raised to be independent and make her own wealth. “I knew it would be way too much for the public to handle. I should have stuck to the ugly grandma sweaters, huh? Oh. Should I stop smiling then so you can control yourself?” She smirked and leaned up to kiss him. “Well good, because i’m never going to get tired of saying it. I love you. And that’s never gonna change.”
“Not what I said.” Cory shook his head, knowing he would never ask her to avoid doing anything for him. At the end of the day he knew Harper would do what she wanted to and that was one of the things he loved about her. “Nah. Everyone needed a reminder of what they were missing out on anyways. I think I’ll be okay. But if you don’t want to hear me complain I’m going to need something hot soon.”
wyattsaugis:
She waved off his offer, shaking her head as she sat down, “Keep your jacket, it is kinda cold in here so I’m not taking that heat from you no matter how warm your blood.” She laughed, leaning in to see the screen of his computer as he worked. “I can’t imagine being creative enough to put together an entire song in a month. The music part sounds way harder to me but I know what you mean, the lyrics can’t be too pop-y or cheesy because people see right through that.”
“I honestly have nothing better to do. My dad, uh, he doesn’t want me to get a job until I’m finished with college and most of my friends are working all the time so if I didn’t have something to focus on I would probably go crazy with all my free time.” Cory rested his chin on his hand after nodding towards the computer to give her complete control. “I don’t know. Words can say a lot of different things but music can say anything you want it to. All the meaning is different depending on who’s listening.”
l-jackson:
“As if you had to beg, I could never say no to that face. It helps that you’re also ridiculously talented. Me? Sing it? But its your song and you sound amazing on it, Cory. You don’t need me to sing it. I mean if you really want me to, I’d be honored but I still think you killed it on this.”
Don’t. You have to stop right now or you’re going to make me get all awkward because of my nerves. Of course I want you to sing it. We don’t have to put it out there or anything but I want to hear what it sounds like when it’s coming from someone who isn’t me. It’ll help me get a better grasp on things.
harry-weinstein:
Oh, I mean, like.. I don’t know. I get nervous about sharing my art with people, but we all judge ourselves more harshly than others do, I think.
I’m, uh, a painter.
Well that’s awesome. What do you like to paint? Or are you one of those artists that can do it all?
harry-weinstein:
“Of course. I don’t know a whole lot about music, but, uh, I can relate to that. I’m Ada.”
Would you mind if I asked how so? It doesn’t have to be deep or anything, I’m just curious. And it’s a pleasure, Ada. I really appreciate the help.
harry-weinstein:
“Well, I don’t think I’m tone deaf.” Ada slipped on the headphones, nodding a bit with the music.
“It’s good.”
Cory pursed his lips an nodded slowly, hoping his relief didn’t show in his face. A stranger’s opinion shouldn’t have meant as much to him as it did and he knew it but he still couldn’t stop himself from caring. “Awesome... Hey, thanks so much for listening. If you didn’t I might have had to try out some of the jocks and I’m not sure my pride could have handled that. It’s small but it’s there. I’m Cory.”
wyattsaugis:
“Yeah? Well, bounce away. I’d be happy to help an up and coming artist with his ideas.” Her smile was still wide as she handed back the headphones. “HOw long did that take you? Like, to write it and figure out the music and all that?”
“Awesome! Do you wanna sit?” He stood, pulling out another chair for her quickly. “The heating in this place sucks but at least it’s quiet so I guess I shouldn’t complain. But if the seat is too cold you can sit on my jacket or something. I always run a little hot blooded anyways.” His smile brightened as he started fidgeting with his laptop again, pulling up a few covers of the Alchemists that people had recorded and put online. “Uh, I want to say around a month. The music was a lot easier than words so lyrics always take me the longest to get through because they’re more... difficult. No one wants to sound cheesy, you know?
