Nonhuman expressions of affection are great. Purring. Exposing weak points as a show of trust. Head bonks. Preening and chewing. Nuzzling. Biting. Intertwining tails. Feeding each other. Little chuffs, chatters, beeps and squeaks. Fluffing up of feathers, fur or other things. Dancing to impress. Cleaning their fur, scales, feathers or skin. Sharing body heat. Ears pointing toward those you care about to show your full attention is on them. Slow blinking.

got to thinking about birdy's perspectives on pop culture (specifically music) and how he likely references things from other time periods / timelines / universes / etc. constantly. i think it's a really interesting thing to explore, even if he does try really hard to only reference things that exist "in-universe". EDIT: should also mention most of his music (that we'd know) is definitely 50's — 90's hits... he specifically loves the 60's and 70's. also ABBA is his favorite band period.

birdy in deltarune — if i had the patience, i'd do a walking sprite of all angles, but i do not have patience. the dealmaker sprites are purely self indulgent. anyways... a local traveling, non-interfering, celestial entity arrives in a small town and gets invested in watching what happens with a prophecy ? more likely than you'd think !

Reaches into the "storage" portion of their hat-like cranium, pulling out a shiny plastic orb (a discarded, empty gachapon capsule, but the plastic's still so sparkly that they, at least, think it casts small wonders in the light). Maybe it's a little goopy now, but, well, they're trying to offer.

well  this  is  quite  the  unusual  visitor  —  clearly  not  someone,  or  some  being,  from  this  world.  needless  to  say,  birdy's  interest  is  completely  captivated. his  vacation  in  alola  had  been  everything  the  travel  brochures  advertised;  although,  there  was  something  unusual  about  the  region...  he  just  couldn't  put  a  finger  on  it.  it  wasn't  anything  to  do  with  the  people,  the  places,  or  the  pokémon  of  the  various  islands.  no,  if  asked  to  describe  it,  birdy  would  shrug  his  shoulders  and  refrain  from  admitting  he  feels  as  though  he's  being  observed.  maybe  this  was  the  source. ❝ oh,  hello  there  —  ❞   he's  surprised  by  the  offering  and  caught  completely  off-guard.  birdy's  hands  gingerly  take  the  gachapon  capsule,  treating  it  like  a  fragile  and priceless  treasure.  he  pays  little  mind  to  the,  um  ...  goopiness  ...

❝  i  believe  such  a  lovely  gift  deserves  a  return.  please,  choose  whichever  one  you'd  enjoy  most.  ❞ so  he  begins  rummaging  through  his  bag,  (  smoothly  slipping  the  capsule  inside  in  the  process  as  well  ),  and procures  two  options  for  the  beast  to  consider  between.  in  birdy's  left  hand:  a  medium-sized  piece  of  broken  coral  he'd  found  on  the  beach.  in  his  right  hand:  a  small,  stone  carved  statuette  of  a  diglett  from  a  touristy  gift  shop.
