Tonight (July 29th) is the Full Buck Moon!
The full moon of July is called the buck moon. The name stems from Native American traditions celebrating the time when male deer reach the point when their antlers are in peak growth. This period where the deer are ‘in velvet’ indicates an abundance in nature as the summers growth reaches its peak. Prime areas of focus for this moon include growth, abundance, and renewal. This is a great moment to recognize the growth that you’ve made and reorient yourself (if necessary) to ensure you are still on the right path. Nature is teeming with energy and just as the bucks focus that towards growing their antlers, you too should use some of this abundance to grow yourself. Big or small, doesn’t matter. Let go of things holding you back and put intention into changes you want to see.
This buck moon is also special because it is landing just three days before Lughnasadh (Aug 1), which is the first harvest of the pagan wheel of the year. The prime focus of Lughnasadh includes recognizing accomplishments and growth. Between these two events you have the moon and the land working together to show you what you’ve accomplished and how you can reap the rewards of your hard work.
Take some time under the moon tonight to reflect on things. She will be sitting in Aquarius and is ready to help you grow. Share your intentions with her and she will help guide you. Journal. Let her cleanse what needs cleansing. Make moon water. Howl. Or just sit for a bit and admire the beauty that is our moon.
