Through this cycle, you will discover that hypocrisy does not bother the old men in suits because they value power more than anything else.

Egyptian mythology tells a story with an elaborate and detailed afterlife in which a person seeking salvation must travel through that afterlife facing all sorts of hazards. Throughout the afterlife the person seeking salvation is constantly faced with the temptation to eat shit. Literal shit. They are hungry. They think about eating shit.

At first, most people seeking salvation know to avoid eating shit. Eventually though, the tempters ask,

“But what if it were the shit of the gods?”

And those seeking a glorious reunification with their bodies in the afterlife say,

“Yeah, maybe. Maybe I would eat shit, if I knew it was the shit of a god.”

Nevertheless, the rule remained. Eat no shit; not even if someone tells you it comes from a god.

And I thought,

“Just like American politics!”
