I am begging the FDA to require that companies CANNOT just put "spices" as an ingredient but have to label the spices.
"Spices" can mean "this has some oregano and black pepper in it" or it can mean "this has cumin cayenne and paprika and if you eat this you will be sick in bed in pain for a week" for me.
Seriously, this is an allergy issue and a huge oversight on the part of corporations.
Require detailed labeling of spices used in packaged foods NOW.
Yeah okay, I'll reblog that!
I don't even have food allergies and I get annoyed when the ingredients list is vague
And stereotypical people are just like "why are you worried about it" like wtf is in this what do you mean spice

Not so friendly reminder that musk specifically came up with, and pushed, for hyperloop knowing that it would never be made, as an effort to stop the development of highspeed rail in America and shift all political discussions of it because "something better is around the corner":
As I’ve written in my book, Musk admitted to his biographer Ashlee Vance that Hyperloop was all about trying to get legislators to cancel plans for high-speed rail in California—even though he had no plans to build it. Several years ago, Musk said that public transit was “a pain in the ass” where you were surrounded by strangers, including possible serial killers, to justify his opposition.
source: new york times
Also: 2024 update, the total length of China's high-speed rail tracks has now reached well over 45,000 km, or 28,000 miles, by the end of 2023.
They are additionally five years ahead of schedule and expect to double the total number within ten years. And, before someone inevitably complains about "how expensive it is", they are turning over a net-profit of over $600M USD a year.
And does that net-profit account for all the economic gains good public transit brings? Build railways
clean water is such a luxury that we tend to take for granted.
i found out that wild animals can drink dirty water only because they've been acclimated to its contaminants since birth. because of this, any changes in the water can cause outbreaks of severe illness. animals raised on clean water would have just as much trouble with wild water as we would.
anyway, unrelated but Fuck Nestle
Nestle has done so much to the water it's actually hard for me to find specific sources because there's so many. when you google 'nestle water' the first autocomplete suggestion is 'nestle water scandal' and you'll get articles dating back to 2016 just on the first page.
the gist is that Nestle is a mega conglomerate and essentially a water monopoly. they've been known to buy land containing natural water springs and restrict access to that water from the locals, only to sell it back to them at an inflated price.
in the 1970s, nestle was exposed for causing the deaths of many infants in third world countries due to their baby formula marketing practices. they would offer free two week trials of their formula to struggling mothers, who of course would take the offers for some relief and convenience. unfortunately, two weeks is just long enough for a mother to stop producing milk if she isn't breastfeeding, which would force them into buying more formula once the trial was over. on top of buying the formula, they would also be forced to buy nestle's overpriced water or risk using contaminated water to mix the formula with.
nestle also owns almost all the local brands of water in the united states. they also own companies like loreal and purina. it's incredibly difficult to boycott them for this reason. purina is also said to be causing illness and death in many pets, and has recalled one of their dry dog food options at least once
here's a list of the companies and brands nestle owns. they are large and wealthy enough to afford their own private militia and form a sovereign country if they wanted to. the article also lists some more of their controversies.
so yeah, Fuck Nestle
absence of a diagnosis does not guarantee the absence of an illness
if someone you know has been suffering yet a doctor says nothing is wrong, which has happened to a majority of chronically ill people at some point, you have a choice. you can either believe the doctor that you probably never met, or believe the person suffering. and I cannot emphasize enough how absolutely damaging it is for a sick person to not be believed.
if anyone's wondering what this is about, a woman died from an allergic reaction at a restaurant in a Disney park after repeatedly confirming that the food was allergen-free, and Disney is claiming that because her husband signed up for a free trial of Disney+ a few years ago, he waived all rights to sue them for any reason. i wish i was joking.
