hello--this is my resident evil sideblog where I'll post my fics, headcanons and some art.
please no minors. i post what i want, and the content i want,. some stuff is dark/triggering. i will tw but I'm just here to enjoy myself.
also my opinions and views on things are my own and may not be everbody’s cup of tea. i do not do proshipper vs anti discourse or shipping discourse, i am 27 years old. so if you tend to fall into discourse like that then my blog isn’t for you.
another racist trend i'm starting to see is drawing mel much bigger than viktor or jace in fanart. she is petite, and shorter than both of them. you don't have to make her massive compared to viktor or jayce just because she's dark skinned....

I'm not even deep in this fandom, but how come every time I look in the meljay tag, it's people filling it with jayvik stuff? And even meljayvik posts are filled with "I prefer jayvik but meljayvik is nice!!"
And on top of that bow come I see jayvik shippers getting so comfortable on mel x jayce posts and talking about how jayce and Viktor are better than mel and Jace??
Coming from and outside perspective, most of it is just racism. That is how it looks, like racism. You guys don't have to ship Mel and Jace but stop pretending you do and using the meljayvik tag to make your rants about how you think jayce is better with Viktor and that he and Mel will never work out. Stop posting in the meljayce tag and filling it with your meta on how jayce and Viktor are better .
Most of you jayvik shippers hate Mel , and you're trying to act like you don't. Keep her name out of your posts, stop cross tagging.

Luis Sera is a language genius.
Some more interesting Luis thoughts? I went over it a bit on this post, but I wanna speak about the fact that he is a linguistic master.
We know Luis can canonically speak European/Castillian Spanish and English. But did you know that Luis can probably speak Latin, and also, different forms/dialects of Spanish as well?
Quick history lesson.
So Spain is where the original Spanish originates from - that is where Luis is from. In Spain, a specific dialect of Spanish is spoken that is different if not,a completely different language from the Spanish you'd hear in the States or in other places in Latin America - it is called Castillian. It's closer to like, Latin and Portuguese (Portugal Portuguese!). The reason there are different dialects of Spanish is because Spain (where Luis is from) colonized/imperialised other nations for slavery, land, etc. Indigenous people ended up being forced to learn Spanish, so did African people thus - we have different variations of Spanish. Those dialects of Spanish, are not taught in Spain.
So back to Luis. When Luis leaves Valdelobos and ends up coming to the US, it is very possible that he cannot actually understand or communicate with the variations of Spanish spoken in the US or in Latin America. He is not the same nationality/ethnicity etc., as latin people or Hispanic people, etc. So Luis had to actually learn how to speak different dialects of Spanish which to him, is essentially a different language from Castillian. But what we can gather is that, because he is smart, Luis probably learned it easily, and learns it in such a way to not mix it up with his Castillian.
Luis also probably knows how to speak various forms of Castillian spanish. Valdelobos is isolated, so while yes, he speaks Castillian that is common in his village, Spain is modernized and their dialect of Castillian and how they speak, is going to be different from Valdelobos, which is still stuck in the 1700rds.
Luis also speaks Latin. Castillian is close to Latin, they are extremely related. However, Valdelobos is a Catholic town, and I mean, pre 2000s Catholic. Again, stuck in the 1700rds - Vatican I kinda Catholic. Which means that for Luis and his religious village to communicate, and interact in church services, mass, Latin was a must. The scripture, liturgy, everything said done in Latin. Luis probably learned this from a very, very, very young age because it was embedded in his culture.
Now, Luis can speak English- and it's more than likely, English is both his first and second language. Castillian is his first language, but Luis himself probably also grew up speaking English. Even for a Spanish town stuck in the 1700rds, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for people to know English when it came to things like trade, politics, etc. Salazar, spoke English - which is more understandable as a noble/mayor like figure. But I wouldn't be surprised if like Latin, English was a language that was taught along side.
Luis can also probably speak Italian - no actually background for that, I'm just assuming he can - probably better than Leon lol. This is probably because in my hc, unlike his husband Leon, Luis is very catholic.

Your post was extremely intriguing to me, and now I have to wonder, what do you think of Luis becoming atheist after leaving Valdelobos? Do you think Valdelobos was like a cult before Los Illuminados?

in my own personal fics i grapple with the idea of whether or not luis would be atheist after leaving. in my personal opinion, luis is actually a very hardcore catholic after everything - like rebaptized and all, and he is gay as hell and married to a man, they exist. but it's also because IMO, to him it's a cultural thing and it's his way of healing.
but as for atheist luis, it would make 1000% sense to me at least. he is only catholic because he grew up in that culture, and in his mind, it was probably all that existed. and luis was vatican i catholic, so that was strict. i think in leaving valdelobos and finding himself, luis would probably shed his ties to the religion.
i also think valdelobos WAS cult like, but not in the same was as los illuminados. my evidence for this is that, they killed his grandpa because he accidentally got the virus. now, ofc this is very much a 'take one for the team' approach. but the whole town rallied together to kill him, that is cult mentality. idk if the cult behavior had to do with them being catholic, but again, in a small town like that, that's catholic, you're bound to be a cult.
and in that sense, i def think as a fuck you to that, luis would probably end up being an atheist. those people killed his grandpa, and he just had so many bad memories associated with it.

As someone who studies European history from the Reformation to Italy to the Spanish Inquisition (which was awful T-T), Luis as a character fascinates me, just as much as Valdelobos. Luis is in a sense, a relic. A person whom, until he left Valdelobos, was connected to centuries of deep culture that had not changed for hundreds of years. Valdelobos was a Catholic town at first, and they still recognize their Castllians as leaders over that of the modern world. Again, as a history geek, Valdelobos was probably pre Vatican II, in short, Luis can probably speak Latin as well. Luis, was not a normal Catholic. Luis' catholicism was very much like what we saw in Medieval times. And also, his form of Spanish.
In Spain, they do not speak the same dialect of Spanish as they do in other places in Latin America. Luis probably speaks Castillian Spanish, which is the European dialect of Spanish, that is not mixed with Indigenous languages or anything of the sort. Because that Spanish existed pre colonization of the Americas. But it gets even CRAZIER with Luis, because even the dialect of Spanish spoken in Spain today, would probably be much different from the dialect spoke in Valdelobos because they are isolated. They probably speak a less modern version of Spanish, probably still tied to the 1600rds.
Meaning that, aside from knowing English and Latin, Luis probably also knows various dialects of Spanish. He knows various dialects of Castillian spanish, he also has to LEARN how to speak Spanish when he got to the states so that people, who are of Latin American origin could understand him.
Luis is a relic, because he exists in various time periods. He exists in a town that is probably stuck somewhere between the 1500rds - 1700rds, yes like Tudor times! A town that was probably very much involved in European events and a town that has not grown past that. He exists in a town where an ancient dialect of Spanish was spoken , and where a very different form of Catholicism existed so that Luis learned Latin growing up because he had to so he could say his prayers. But he left ALL of that behind and modernized himself.
And he did it so well to the point where he easily passed for someone stuck in Valdelobos that doesn't belong there. He literally just looks like some guy when we meet him. When Leon sees him, you can't tell that this man is not really different from the cattle farmers who still speak in ancient languages, or who might not even know what a cell phone is, or who are hundred years behind. You don't know that Luis was at a point, disconnected like they were. He is literally just some guy. We don't even learn about how hard it was for him to adjust to this new life, but how he mastered it!!
A whole game, no a whole nOVEL could be made off of him.
anyway i refuse to believe he is dead lol. this man didn't survive cultural shock, being a relic, being exposed to new cultures, new ideas, etc., just to be killed by krauser lmaoooo
personal opinion is that in Luis!Survives aus, he becomes the head researcher of a BSAA scientific branch in New York. He comes up with counter vaccines, and experiments on viruses (on the side, he cures every known disease in the world lol). He is also with Leon. Lemme tell you, i am working on a very very long, drawn-out, bodyguard fic with Leon and Luis. But aside from that, he also takes Ahsley under his wing. Ashley ends up becoming a scientist as well. After witnessing what she did in Valdelobos, and researching the rich, beautiful history of the village, she was immediately filled with sadness. So she wants to make a change herself, she wants to make it so that, no matter what, that doesn't happen to innocent people again. Luis teaches her everything she knows, even how to speak Castillian Spanish (because yes, there are different dialects of Spanish, and Luis is from Spain and would speak Castillian/European Spanish - the original Spanish).
Eventually, Ashley hears that Valdelobos is rebulding, and there is a controlled branch of the BSAA being opened there to both monitor but also help rebuild.
After much thought, Ashley moves to Valdelobos and becomes the head researcher. The town is different, and it's healing and she is one of the people responsible for that.

this is the only 'discourse' post i will ever make on this blog, but right when i jumped into this fandom, i was bombarded by ada hate. my thing is that, ada is important to me as a woman of color, because she is allowed to exist, and thrive on her own while being complex, and unique in her own way. whenever there is a woc in a game franchise, they are literally pushed to the side. ada is not. ada wong is one of the most influential video game characters.
another thing about ada too is that, there are so many harmful portrayals of asian women, and for the most part - esp in the remakes - ada subverts that. in a lot of media, asian women are overly sexualized, brutalized, the subject of rape and sexual assault, etc. and ada, doesn't fall into those categories. yes, we can say that she is sexualized, but that is not something unique to her. all the character, even leon, are sexualized as well. and ofc, while i am a woc (i am black) I'm not going to speak over orientalism or any asian women who do think she is sexualized. i just think that for the most part, the remake handles her well.
my point too is that, it's hard to find good rep for woc in media. so for us to have ada, and for her to be a character that isn't going anywhere, is just really, revolutionary.
i'll always love her. and seeing her constantly torn down and compared/contrasted to white characters is annoying but it is also, expected. most of the hatred ada gets, tho people will never admit it, is rooted in racism.
