Hi I want to start writing a fanfic but I don't really know how to start writing the first chapter or how to start a chapter at all. Do you have any good tips?

Tips for writing a first chapter? I’m not gonna lie, I struggle with that so much :( It’s always first chapters and titles for me.

I have a few methods that usually work for me! Sometimes I just brainstorm with friends that already know about the story I’m trying to write, and they help inspire me for a first chapter.

Sometimes I go with the ‘just write’ method as well haha! I find that usually when I’m struggling to write a chapter, no matter which, it’s cause I’m overthinking it. I recommend reminding yourself that this is only the first draft! Ideally, you’re going to go back and edit, which means you’re going to find the ‘perfect’ way to start your fic eventually. No longer overthinking and just jotting down whatever is in my head for the scene works pretty well!

If you don’t know how you want to start the first chapter in any way, try looking at what the general plot idea you have is. For example with my fic, we knew we wanted to have Izuku being trapped in the Yakuza protecting Eri, but that’s only the middle portion, not the beginning. What I thought about after was, ‘okay, how do I want Izuku to get there?’ Which eventually helped me realize Izuku would get snatched by Rappa. Not only was it a good way to establish the general plot, but it also helped give background information and characterization.

I do this for most chapters that I start. I think about what I want to happen this chapter, try to figure out how to get to that point based off the last chapter, and go from there. If I don’t know what I want the chapter to be about, I think about what the next big event we’re leading up to is!

No clue if this was at all that helpful, and it’s SO MANY WORDS IM SO SORRY, but I hope this helped in any way! Feel free to ask another question if you need elaboration or anything. - Azalea

Just realized I never posted Izuku’s villain outfit. I described it like Izuku’s cannon vigilante outfit but with Overhauls purple feather boa thing, which I hope makes more sense when looking at it here. His design will change to something actually original eventually (already in the process of designing it for verrry future chapters), but for now, enjoy your hero killer!
