When the obsession started...

This is the magical moment when Mar'Shem'Lo was out fishing on some tropical planet, when the very rare and elusive Divine Jellyfish (JELLYfish, get it? *wink wink nudge*) appeared. It leapt out of the water and jumped clear over his head, the sun highlighting and glittering off its unique iridescent skeleton. Mar'Shem'Lo has been obsessed with catching it ever since. No luck so far, but the hunt continues! Translucent fish are practically invisible underwater, so good luck Mar'Shem'Lo!

Guys I am so happy with how this turned out. I have been trying hard to improve and I think it is showing! I am also trying to force myself not to outline everything in black marker. its SO HARD not to just outline everything. I am also working on another NEW predator OC who I will be sharing sooooooon.

Tried a Classic Jungle Hunter

I decided to give the classic jungle hunter look a shot. I like him. I think he's kinda cute. I know the actual design from the movie doesn't have the big jaguar rosettes on the back but I felt like he needed them. Did this with my trusty colored pencils. ;D

Great Big Wife

This is Olga. She is one of the great big ladies in Mar'Shem'Lo's life. He enjoys her company the most, and she enjoys his. She is a woman of few words, but deep thoughts. Olga can tend to be too serious, but Mar'Shem'Lo is her bright sunshine. Whenever she is planetside she stops by his hut for a delicious meal and some cheerful company. She is huge, as you can see.

Shishi and Cousin 

On twitter i was thinking about how I’m still fond of Shishi despite not drawing him as much, and then it turned into a conversation about how he compared against my portrayal of Cousin, which eventually lead to the realization that going by their timelines, Shishi and Cousin would have been contemporaries. 

Shishi’s hunting grounds were Earth, and Cousin would’ve stayed in Citadel space for the most part since his whole thing was killing Spectres, so their interactions would not have been ‘typical,’ but my figuring is that Shishi’s fixation of himself as a legendary figure to humans and how he subsequently acts bc of that has made him a subject of mockery amongst the Yautja, even those outside his tribe. In large part because Shishi is very attractive by Yautja standards, and you don’t see a hunter with such talent and potential squander it on such a curious obsession. 

When Cousin stands against him, despite Shishi being larger in height and bulk, it’s a misfit against an elite. They are both incredibly capable hunters. Cousin is infinitely more respected, however. And the story I’m gonna go with is that they’ve got some kind of a spat that happened in the past. Not sure yet tho. 

His tie in to the Mass Effect story is that Shishi, in a show of power/expertise/hatred, successfully hunts and kidnaps Shepard. It’s meant to be a message to Cousin, both to mock and to challenge. Hey, you hypocrite. Come get it.

saw @jack-o-cel​​ post asking about Feral’s kin culture (x) - the sub-species is known as Desert Predators from concept artist Michael Vincent - so i think it’s convenient to drop this little snippet here. This was inspired by Micheal Vincent quote on designing the creature “Bone has a special cultural significance to the Feral subspecies - not only their armor but as a diet staple.” 

The Desert Predators worship a super power being; “Vision Who Came Before Us,” that rules their lives, animals and plants around. This invisible life force is omnipresent: in all their body parts, shadows, names, bone narrow, the water in which Predators or animal bathed, traces imprinted in mud… Vision Who Came Before Us can enter any body. The Desert Predators believe; each of their soul is inherited from a fore-bearer’s cartilage, bones and joints. Their ivory or wooden carvings host the souls of the dead. All Desert Predator souls submit to two divine powers: the sky; imaged as a giant winged reptiles, the lands; symbolized by dun streak of a cobra-like creature.
