I keep seeing all this very interesting memeological discourse about the Great Meme Depression 2k15 but I think y’all are going about it all the wrong way. Y’all are treating memes like they are a physical commodity that operates as part of an internet economy. Y’all are concocting capitalist metaphors to describe something that is ultimately spiritual.  Memes have a life force of their own, a unique way of being, and they descend upon us and ascend at will. No amount of meme studies will truly be able to predict the life of a meme, from where they come or when they leave us. Is this not the failing of corporate use of memes? Their attempt to understand and harness a force of nature? Let the meme be free! Be patient and still, with open eyes and an open heart, and the meme will come unto you, and the meme will make its ascension again when its work is done.  Memes are not currency, folks. Memes are errant gods.

1856-1860 - Winner: Edison. Tesla was under age 4, Edison would win the fight, but would also be fighting a toddler, so it’s not really a good fight.

1860-1870 - Winner: Edison. Tesla was between ages 4 and 15, so same result as below 4, because Edison is 10 years older

1870-1873 - Winner: Edison. By this point, Edison was already working and married. Tesla had just graduated from school and was a math geek.

1873 - Winner: Edison. Tesla had cholera and would not be up for a fight.

1874-1880 - Winner: Tesla. Tesla had been living exploring mountains in hunter’s garb. More than prepared to win a fight. He also held no attachments to his friends at school, and had nothing to lose.

1880-1890 - Winner: Uncertain. Around this time, Edison spent a lot of time digging ditches, so he had the physical strength, but Tesla, who also spent a winter digging ditches and crying, had the rage and determination. 

1890-1900 - Winner: Tesla. By this point, Edison was spending all of his time covered in dirt and failing to pack iron dust into bricks. Tesla was doing high voltage experiments. Each had the physical ability. However, Edison repeatedly had to be rescued from being covered by dust, and Tesla constantly refused medical attention.

1900-1910 - Winner: Tesla. Tesla wins because Edison is too old to win a fist fight, and is busy working with chemicals and being a bad father. Tesla is still doing high voltage experiments. 

1910-1920 - Winner: Tesla. Edison is now getting into his 70s, and he doesn’t notice when people aren’t listening to him as he expects them to at dinner parties. He might not even notice Tesla coming. He would lose.

1920-1930 - Winner: Tesla. Edison is not really doing inventing anymore, only business, and Tesla is working with a biplane and feeding birds. Edison is too old.

1931-1943 - Winner: Tesla. Edison is dead, so Tesla wins by default.
