i love reading a fic not set in the uk, and one phrase makes it glaringly obvious that the author is british.

"he was in a mood—" and now every character has a british accent and i swear i can hear the chime of big ben in the distance.

I mean I get that because since we were 17 the MLH has pinned us against each other since we’re the two most skilled and talented hockey players of our generation who have been put on teams that have a longstanding rivalry. I actually have so much respect for him as a hockey player and a person. He’s the best player in the league and is an amazing person to play against. He challenges me in every way possible and makes me be a better player.

this whole scene was intense enough with shane coming out but when you think a little harder about it, it gets even worse because ilya was so HUMILIATED to even have to say that he could never even go back home if he came out. he felt so embarrassed and that now that shane was sure of himself, the reality of russia & his family made ilya spiral. he was so scared and embarrassed:( my baby.
