Have the strong urge to gently take the fanboys' hands, and explain to them very slowly that chris not being physically stronger than wesker is the entire point of RE5. Chris even spells it out in the beginning when he talks about disliking capitalism, because he doesn't think society should operate like a zero sum game. He would never have defeated wesker one on one, he defeated him by fostering relationships build on trust and mutual support and with the help of Jill, Sheva, and Josh. I think anyone who has watched 5 minutes of sports knows that power scaling is silly anyway, but even if RE was built on shonen logic, and even if RE9 'proves' that leon could have defeated wesker single-handedly in combat, him doing so would have undermined the entire anti-fascist\eugenics message of the game. Because Wesker simply getting beaten in a fight would just endorse Wesker's misguided belief that power was the answer to all his problems. There's a reason re9's finale mirrors the beats of re5 and drives home the point that power pursued at all cost will eventually become self-defeating. Leon and Chris both end up winning in those games because they put their faith in the humanity of others instead of raw power. It's more or less the entire underlying message of the series.
