Link and Zelda are both separated and kept in different (though identical) areas of his domain. Basically two copies of the same House and Ganon can move between them freely.
Ganon shatters the triforce of wisdom and power so the two of them must battle their way out while searching for each other and the scattered fragments.
Zelda has a small amount of combat training from Link so she channels her anger to pick up the spear, the bow, and the rail. She known for her speed and accuracy, but due to her skill level, her clear times are fairly slow.
Link can use all the infernal arms but he favors the sword, the shield, and the fists. He is known for his strength and skill, but also his brutality. His desperation to find his princess makes him a foe to fear during his escape attempts and his clear times are remarkably fast.
The boons they receive are from dead warriors of the past. The champions spirits offer up their powers in hopes of helping them clear the domain, defeat Ganon, and find the triforce fragments. Urbosa gives lighting attack boons like Zeus, Revali gives boons of swiftness and critical change like Hermes and Artemis, etc.
Aspects are revealed with blood and change forms to fit in game weapons like the bow of light and the ancient guardian sword.
The hero and the princess die repeatedly, but do not give into blood and darkness. They shall find each other and save Hyrule once again. Death after death, they continue.
