“Rowing is hard, but the only thing that should be too hard is quitting.”
—
Reading all of those articles saying how rowing is the most physically and mentally challenging sport
coxswain: in 2, weigh enough
student athlete: enough?✋🏻😈 ill never have enough until i reach my goals 😤✋🏻😈 I'm chasing dreams☁️ out here ✊🏻✨they said we couldn't do it but we did it anyway 😤✋🏻😈 some watch while others do 👌🏻💯 i stay hungry 🍴😈
I would will make this joke.
Managing both school and rowing in-season
If only
When im missing half of my boat minutes before launching time
you know as a coxswain i spend a lot of time worrying about crafting the perfect calls to try and get my boat to move faster
meanwhile the other cox on my team will just yell “SOY SAUCE” at top volume in the middle of the race and the boys will just yam on it so moral of the story is stop overthinking and just talk
When coach tries to correct your stroke and you continue to do the same thing and they say “better, good change”.
being a coxswain is hard
i know- coxswains don’t get blisters on their hands or scream in pain on the erg machines. they don’t have to physically push themselves to the limit.
but mentally, being a coxswain is insanely difficult and taxing. they take the blame for every. single. mistake. made. regardless if it was their “fault” or not. they get bitched about behind their back, and all they can do is pretend like they didn’t hear a word. they’re constantly worried about screwing up whether it be in practice or regattas. they have to please the coach while still being a fun person to be around. honestly, i’m a coxswain that doesn’t easily let go of things that happen on the water because i just feel this overwhelming guilt for a long LONG time. even if i couldn’t have done anything better or different, i always feel like it’s not enough. it’s incredibly stressful 24/7, but coxswains just act like everything’s okay since they’re the glue that keeps the team together.
so please, appreciate your coxswains. understand that a bad row is just a day and that they’re probably mentally going through the practice over and over again, beating themselves up for everything they could, or couldn’t, have done differently. and if it’s only the first week or so of the season, we promise that our coxing ability or style doesn’t determine who we are as people, and all we want is to gain some respect. coxswains really try, and we’re sorry if we mess up. please take this information to heart the next time you’re considering bashing a coxswain directly after a practice/regatta; your words and actions make a deeper dent than you might think.
say it louder for the rowers in the back
When NOTHING, not even a celestial being, can fix the set of the boat
This whole putting each other down when we should be united as a team is getting real old.
1. Bow seat you are important, we need you for your technique yes, but you are also STRONG 2. Power house you all are amazing and you have good technique too, we all improve our technique
3. The rumor that 3 and 4 seat are unnecessary, completely false. Everyone adds to the boat.
4. Coxswains, you are athletes, you are important members of the team, don’t put your worth down.
5. Novices, you are the future of the program, you are important and you will improve. None of the recruits or veteran members became who they are over one season.
Truth! #rowing
Rowers who get social invites after, say, 9pm...
Bad new concept:
A swept single. You race to see who can go in a circle the fastest
Guys I fucked up I forgot to think about how you’re gonna set this thing
racing. now theres a simple idea that never gets old. who’s the fastest. i love it.
