A blue pic from this morning, and the other two in the afternoon—somehow I’m always surprised when the horizon gets sunset-pink at 4pm…

there are people who will tell you that to be a Satanist, you *have* to read Anton LaVey b/c he invented it, that no such thing existed prior to him we would not grant that as so. the Satanisms that predated & have rejected his are quite rich. in our estimation, much richer it is true that there are some of things in The Satanic Bible that are not terrible. "Do not harm little children" - who is going to take issue with that? but sometimes people will say, "Your Bible says X while my Satanic one says Y" as like a gotcha, well, one wonders how much they've really read The Satanic Bible, how much they've really thought about it, and then how much deeper they've gone into LaVey's life and writings beyond that ideas like "your home", "open territory", and "mating signal" require an awful lot of apologetics to explain; it's quite easy to see why douchebags take the idea of "psychic vampires" or a license to treat people cruelly and run with it to hurt vulnerable people in their own lives. and that's before we get into eugenics, smellz, reproductive autonomy, and philosophical & personal friendliness with reactionaries up to and including fascists. "#SatanismSoWhite" ain't just a weird 50-plus year coincidence now, a person can be a LaVeyan Satanist, read all of his works, take only the good stuff & leave the rest behind. that's fine. you can subvert his philosophical grounding and uplift your own as superior to it. that would even be fitting at this point, tho, you are a Reconstructionist Satanist, and you ought to at least respect the Reconstructionist Jews and Radical Christians out there doing the same with their texts and rituals without any ideas of textual superiority. "b-but your book says-" look, if you're still so culturally Christian you think you're bound by the dead letters of dead men, you're going to be in for a bad time nearly everywhere. "the Torah is not in heaven", but if you're a Satanist, you should let go of the idea of prophets & scripture entirely
“A cold evening, a clear night and a frost; then comes dawn, and fog. Rain starts to fall in the early dark, and the fog is granular, moving in the air. The smell is green and sharp, the earthy scent distincts as rain falls. It feels so good to escape into this serene, solemn world of perpetual transition.”

with all the shit JK Rowling had just said about trans women, and with the new Fantastic Beasts trailer dropping, reminder to NOT go see that movie, or buy merch, or watch that stupid "return to hogwarts" shit, and instead, consider donating a dollar or two to a financially struggling trans woman this holiday season, or to a charity dedicated to helping trans people, such as Gendered Intelligence or Mermaids

Wolves are surprisingly good climbers, able to climb trees using their strong muscles, sharp claws, and rough pads. Because of this, there are some wolves who prefer to mark higher up on trees by scaling them a bit and clawing into the bark.

I didn’t even consider that soap could be made out of bacon grease, like when I heard “animal fat” that just never came to mind
I am once again thinking about neighborhood-scale networks of DIY and mutual aid where community wealth could be created literally for free by collecting things that people would otherwise throw away
Expecting every single person to make soap and broth and compost and mend all their clothes and repair all their electronics and upcycle all of their trash in useful ways is just never gonna work. No one has time to do everything, especially if they’re forced to have a job too
But if one person learns how to make soap, and everyone in the neighborhood brings them leftover animal fat and gets soap in return, it becomes a lot more manageable. Someone else learns how to spin dryer lint, someone else pulps and recycles paper, someone else grows food, someone else raises chickens, etc, etc, and suddenly you’ve got a whole moneyless circular economy going. Less stuff going to landfills, less money going to corporations, more prosperity for everyone
If the concept of getting free things in exchange for trash interests you, find a Buy Nothing Project or a mutual aid organization in your area and get involved!
