To give you an idea, a beanie would be $10-15, and the head scarves would be $10-15. Smaller projects would be $5-10.

I designed and crocheted a trans pride jumper! It still needs to be steam blocked but it's so comfy and soft and ahhhhhh

Am I wearing it to conservative family dinner tonight? Yeah I am. Is the one (1) openly queer cousin gonna clock me on sight? Also yes. Will it be worth it?

After scrolling through a bajillion pages of the current fad for greige 10 mohairs held together plain sweaters, I have finally found a designer worth buying patterns from! If only they had this scale pattern on a sweater!

BTW, if anyone knows other Ravelry designers who give off similar vibes to Lavish Craft, I want their names! Or just your favorite designers in general as long as they aren’t PetiteKnit.

I’ve seen a lot of designs that are incidentally named after things from fantasy books, but the actual look of the piece wouldn’t tell you what it’s inspired by. I’m more interested in designers doing dragon scale designs or at least sweaters I can picture on a hobbit.

Fabel Knitwear has some pretty stuff, but I hear her gauge is weird af and her patterns are confusing. I have the Montmartre but haven’t made a serious attempt at it yet, so we’ll see what I think. I’m not finding the instructions bad, but I agree with all the nitpickers that her own knitting is that trendy airy bullshit where the needles are 5 sizes too big and you’re making up for it with hairy yarns. My sense is that she’s one of those designers whose shots of herself in samples are by far the best thing about the designs.

I’ve spotted a couple of things I want from Skeindeer Knits. Lots of classic looks there that I can’t easily get from a store.

Norah Gaughan‘s more whimsical designs, like this one and this one, might be up your alley.  (She has a lot of really basic stuff too, including at least a couple in the vein of the trend you mentioned, but she’s also a bloody wizard with cables and other interesting design elements.)

I’ve made her Goldleaf and Corozona patterns and I’ve found them easy to follow.

When searching on ravelry, you can put a minus before a search term like so: -mohair. This will remove any patterns that identify as using mohair. This might make avoiding those kinds of patterns easier.

If you look at the search filters when you use the check boxes for the advanced search, you can see not just the notation, but what terms it uses as the tags.

Mmario’s lace patterns (eg lobster quadrille, and a bunch of very bookishly named patterns) are all free; joansgarden has some very cool animal themed stuff going on; frivolite handcrafts has some really nice double knit patterns; elfmoda has this epic maple leaf shawl; we love svetlana gordon; virginia catherall did this series of tree bark inspired scarves; lynne and douglas barr have patterns for intarsia landscape sweaters; the fallen shawl from kyle vey is another literal leaf; the duck hat slays absolute penis; emma bermudez makes patterns for socks that look like an animal is eating your feet; my favourite hat is a capuchine; phrygia is one of many hats that are pointy at the top like a pixie hat; anne holtegard does these complex ass shawl charts; i feel like we gotta mention halibut sweater for its popularity; hunt hand knits did the really epic dinosaur bones shirt; fish hat is an obligatory W; any of the gingko shawls is super cool; gone fishing and la ronde de poissons shawls are both in my queue; goldfish mittens would go great with the aforementioned fish hat; great horn rimmed owl vest is possibly right up your alley, and so is mushroom forager bag; if you’re not afraid to spend $20 on a whimsical recipe then go for jane thornley; kieran foley is an obsession of mine; i have purchased multiple patterns from picklespatterns’ 30% off sales; frankie brown has this niche of ten stitch scarf type things and flourishes in it; limberlost luna moth is a shawl with a literal luna moth on it; i suspect NEK colorwheel shawl deserves a shoutout; night owl is a shawl/scarf i’m spinning yarn for; knitovation stitch dictionary has charts for really cute patterns and creatures you can implement in other knits; photography shawl is a 3d knit and on that note, rastus hsu focuses on origami knits; add scarfish to the fish themed knits i got on here; celestarium is pretty cool especially if you do beads; swing geckos is cute; trembling aspen has awesome leaves in yarn overs; tree peonies has my heart; trout mittens and cape koi are even more fish themed stuff; vincent cuff goes hard on the starry night themed beading; vino oniv is some trippy square patterns; yak sweater is what it says on the tin; wings of peace and wings for nightbird get to be grouped together, and same with bat cape and wananana bat shawl but that’s all what i like. You need to:

1. Go on rav forums and search for threads where people suggest cool patterns

2. Search by pattern and filter by things like “most favourites” and “most happy with”

3. When you find a really cool thing, stalk the maker’s notebook. Not just the pattern designer. I mean the guy who knit it. Chances are you have the same taste.

I know it's because I've already made it once and so have had some practice, but man, this colourwork is proving to be SO MUCH CLEANER and I'm mildly annoyed that this cowl isn't for me.

yall know that post with all of those absolutely stunning crochet flowers? well i just bought a pattern from the shop those are from and Good Fucking Lord.

I was expecting a like a Chart or two, maybe some written instructions. not Seventy Seven full color pages for One type of rose.

this was like 8 bucks???? obviously i did some redacting but Good Lord. if you are even a little bit into crochet go throw money at this absolute Mad woman its Definitely worth it.

back at it almost an entire year later. and i can now confirm she's this insane in all of her patterns (there's over 84 of them????) (<compliment)

she has also made a website since the first post (link) the patterns are cheaper there and the payment is handled through PayPal (and I'm guessing she gets a Way bigger cut of the money than with her Etsy so maybe check out the site instead) of the Etsy listed above.

also quick faq below the cut bc idk, supporting small businesses ran by WOC is important and this lady is rad. I just genuinely love her products and want more people to know about them.

The patterns are full color and come with charts, full color pictures, and standard written instructions with a key in the back and tutorials for all non standard stitches and techniques.

They aren't actually that difficult. I crochet very rarely (and mostly do amigurumi) bc of wrist issues and still had a really easy time working through them bc like, the techniques aren't basic but if you don't already know them you will know them after doing the pattern. A lot of the difficulty comes from using a very fine thread, but you can also just use normal yarn to have giant beautiful flowers instead of life size ones (i personally prefer a size 10 instead of the recommend size 40 bc it's easier on my wrists) Also here's a link to her shop where she sells the thread. it's an Etsy link bc i don't think she has a non Etsy site for physical products yet.

the patterns are All Really Really Cheap. that rose pattern i called 8$ is only 7usd on her site. the most expensive items i can find are 12$ and they're both bundles. One with 9 mini patterns the other with 16. you are getting a fucking Deal no matter which you buy by my estimate.

she has everything from like a million types of rose and from amaryllises to zinnias and she's making more patterns.

Jeny’s interlock cast off exactly mirrors the long-tail (and the backward loop) cast on AND is a very good stretchy bind off.

This baby sweater is knit bottom up, but I made the sleeves top down, picking up stitches around the armhole, so to get the same edge on the ribbing, I did the long-tail cast on on the body and the interlock cast off on the sleeves.
