Lunch Breaks <3
Ssssss-Lackin!
This is the first time I have sat down in front of a computer since my last post!! This month has been a whirlwind, and I am not just talking about the Oklahoma weather! I mean my life has been a busy one this past month.
I got a a new job, a full time adult job. Complete with benefits, free gym membership and oh yea back pain. Time has been anything but free. My tea drinking, reading relaxations have been minimum. But no worries I have managed to cram in a few chapters in-between mouthfuls of spinach wraps, during that hour long wonder of a lunch break. I can't wait to sit down, pull out my book and just escape for an hour. Reading is like breathing for me. Keeps me going.
Even so, this has left my blogging at a standstill. As I sit here thinking of what to blog my mind is overwhelmed with ideas and thoughts. So much to say and so little time. For real though. I have to go to work soon, so keeping this short and sweet! And promising to write later!
Cheers to adult life!!! xoxo
Living a thousand miles away won't stop this Mother-Daughter Book Club! Reading Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand Mother's pick; so hopefully it's a good one!
Fridays are date days with my hubby! Had my first London Fog tea at Shades of Brown Coffee and Art. ❤
I love this place!
What's your favorite book?
Growing up I loved to read. My favorite time of year was reading week at school! This was when every class had to take time from their normal school academic schedule and read a book of their choice for an hour each day. My class mates and I would find a comfy place in the classroom, usually a bean bag or a comfy chair that was adult size but could easily fit two third graders, and we would read our books and eat a snack of our own choosing. My mom bought me chocolate covered raisins one year, and it has since been my favorite candy. It reminds me of that day and reading books, and being young and just being happy. Reading has always had this affect on me. It just makes me happy. I have not been many places, in fact only a few that are even worth mentioning, but with books I feel as though I have been so many places!
Lately I have had a lot of time to think and remember these places, marriage does that to you. You get married and start to realize how different your life is going to be from now on, and you start to remember how it use to be. I miss the days of chocolate raisins, bean bags, and a good book, of just having to worry about not letting your chocolate melt and whether it is going to be nice enough to play outside when you get home. The carefree life of a young child. That essence of freedom and life that leaves us as we get older, as we learn new things, see new things, and become new things.
Therefore books, the words we read in third grade start to stick with us, and shape us, and show us a world beyond our backyards and school playgrounds. I wanted so bad to see these worlds, and to experience more of them! But how? I learned at a young age that books were the doorway to life. A new life, one not of our making, one that was written for us by others searching for that carefree, child-like feeling, we all once had.
J.K. Rowling gave me one of my favorite worlds. Stephen Lawhead gave me on of my favorite heroes. Ted Dekker gave me an eye for the spiritual world, and Phillip Pullman showed me true love.
My favorite authors, my favorite fiction books. In the upcoming blogs I am going to revisit my favorite books, and highlight favorite moments, characters and big ideas that I got from them.
It's important to me that if I love a book, really love it, that it must be read over and over. So that it can be relived again and again.
So make a cup of tea, think on your favorite books and get ready to relive the adventure!
Love is vivid. I never wanted the pale version. Love is full strength. I never wanted the diluted version. I never shied away from love’s hugeness but I had no idea that love could be as reliable as the sun. The daily rising of love.

The book that stole my heart.
Yes, I am talking about the thief, The Book Thief. A book so heart capturing it left me wanting more with every turn of the page. This book defines writing and what it's all about. It takes you on an adventure through one of life's darkest endeavors.
Narrated by death, one of life's loudest voices. A voice so loud you don't have to experience it directly to know its familiar tone. A voice we hear on every page and channel, a voice that stares you in the face when we look in the mirror or when we round the corner, knowing just knowing that we hear it everywhere. The Book Thief, she knew the voice, she knew it all too well. Living in Nazi Germany during WWII , death had become a ringing bell, ringing justice for Germans, but destruction for...well everyone else. The story takes us through a family's survival of Nazi Germany and Hitler's reign, and of course we meet a Jew, who teaches The Book Thief the importance of words. And how words when used correctly can shape a person, a thought, and even a nation.
If you treasure books, or even if you don't this book will show you how important literature is,how the words written there are shaping who we are, they are shaping the world around us. It's also a brutal reminder of how one man used words to destroy an entire race. And leaves you grasping for words like hope, love, and family.
Daily reads. God's word. Like a healthy lunch we have to feed ourselves God's word. No book has done me better than this one!
Still reading Love Does, by Bob Goff.
Finished The Book Thief, very good read! Blog to come.

Nook vs Book
For me there really is no comparison, books beat e readers every time! But for the sake of convenience and a few perks, I haven't had to make any more room on my book shelf lately.
The NOOK, Kindle, or whatever e reader out there has some great qualities that I decided out weighed my love for the smell of fresh pages and the joy of filling my bookshelves! Therefore, I would love to share my 3 favorite things about a having a e reader and maybe they will sway you and maybe they will not! Either way as long as you are reading, I AM HAPPY!
One, books are cheaper! Now when does saving money not make someone happy! Especially on books! I remember the days when I would sit in a Barnes and Noble for hours reading a book because the $29.99 price tag was just too much for my poor college student budget to afford! If only I had had a NOOK during those days, my butt probably wouldn't be so flat from sitting so long and the B AND N employees would probably have stopped giving me dirty looks every time they saw me come in (which was everyday..no joke)!
Two, my nook is small and fits perfectly in my book bag or purse. YES ladies even your purse; stuffed to the max with receipts, lip gloss and tampons! You can fit a NOOK in there but probably not a book. So for all you heavy loaders out there an e reader will make reading a book on your lunch break or sit at the doctors office that much more enjoyable! As for me, stuffing books in my purse or bag was never a problem, unless that book was Inheritance by Christopher Paolini, then we have a problem! That book is so enormous I wonder if he has gotten settlements from junior higher's parents complaining of back troubles! Now that i have a NOOK my stuffing days are over! If it doesn't fit, download it! (new commercial slogan?)
Three, and probably my favorite part is the DEALS! I don't know about the other e readers out there but I know my nook has a daily deal list, where books can run at $3.99 or less! And better yet some books are FREE! You can not beat a free book! I love opening my NOOK and browsing through the deals and bargains! It's like shopping but for nerds!
Also side note, great website out there for you book bargain lovers! Sign up for Bookperk.com and get emails on book deals, release dates and other fun stuff! :)
Now that I've shared my pros on the e reader side i guess the only con would be the price, and the risk of electronic problems. With that said, the price is not so bad and think about ALL the money you will be saving on books! As for electronic problems, keep your e reader away from your tea cup, don't take it to the bath with you (I know,I know we all love to read in the tub), and don't throw it at an irritating spouse! Follow these and reading will be an ease! (gosh I'm good!)
