I'll never forget Will's mother saying Mack is "too soft" on Will because it's so important. All the things that we don't see must be what she's talking about; when Will needs tough love, Mack is unable to give it. He doesn't have it in him to be hard on Will, and I think that's incredibly sweet. Will misses a shot: "That was still a good try, though." Will makes a mistake on the ice, and Mack gives him a look that says, "It’s okay, you'll get the next one." Their dynamic is so interesting from an outside perspective; Will is Mack's balance and release, and Mack is Will’s number one fan who is unironically unable to see his flaws or mistakes. Will needed that soft love that makes your chest ache sometimes, and he found it in Mack. That’s what's so beautiful about it all. Like, Will has had all these friends for a lifetime, but he was still unknowingly searching for Mack the whole damn time, and now he gets him and is unable to let him go, even for a second.
