Got a new moleskine for bullet journaling (my third bujo!) and a new rollup pencil case :) How should I decorate the cover of this one?
After not doing any sort of journaling for a while, I’m about to start my third bullet journal. Anyone have any tips for jumping back into the whole bullet journal game? Notebook recs are also deeply appreciated (where do you fall on the whole leuchtturm/moleskine debate? Do you have any other faves? etc)
Obligatory question mark?
College List?
I know I’m super late on this, but I just turned in a bunch of my applications and I’m listing my colleges I’m applying to in case anyone else is applying so we can all wish each other luck! If you want to chit-chat/ask questions/whatever feel free to message me or send an ask!
Colleges below the cut so I don’t clutter up anyone’s dash :)

female south asian musicians who aren’t m.i.a.
shilpa ray - shilpa is indian-american and has a voice like someone hacking up velvet with a chainsaw. she uses an indian harmonium in most of her work. whenever i listen to her music i feel like i am smoking a cigarette somewhere in the highlands after being spurned a former lover.
song recs: ‘venus shaver’ if you want to rage against european beauty standards, ‘’liquidation sale’ if you want to rage in general, ‘lessons from lorena’ for crying at 2 in the morning about england’s shitty government a la yours truly
2. nadine shah is pakistani-norwegian and her music would not sound out of place in the soundtrack of a giallo film. her voice soars around you, it’s fucking incredible.
song recs: ‘aching bones’ if you want to feel like you are slinking aimlessly around the velvet-lined chamber your cruel father trapped you in in 18th century rome, ‘to be a young man’ to feel like you are an ancient vampire lamenting his youth, ‘never tell me mam’ for motherly angst. did i mention she’s from newcastle, and is therefore fam? oop the north
3. natasha khan, or bat for lashes, is english and pakistani and a literal forest nymph. she makes music for twirling round rosebeds to, possibly with a faraway look on your face.
song recs: ‘oh yeah’ for ascending to the astral plane, ‘travelling woman’ for solidarity, ‘bat’s mouth’ for when your lover is trapped in a bat’s mouth n’ that
4. sasha perera is sri lankan and a goddess. she was an electro queen with jahcoozi and now records sparse and vaguely terrifying music under the name perera elsewhere.
song recs: ‘polaris’ - someone on youtube described this song as ‘feeling like you are falling asleep in an humid attic with a jungle view’ which is v apt, ‘light bulb’ for a feeling of impending doom, ‘drunk man’ for slowly dehydrating in a desert while vultures circle above you
5. ecca vandal is a sri lankan australian and sounds like queens of the stone age fronted by gwen stefani (if gwen actually looked good in a bindi, lmao). she has only released a few songs so far but i am very excited about her. i think she sounds like what vod from fresh meat would sound like if she made music.
song recs: ‘white flag’ and ‘battle royal’ for stomping about, the ridiculously named ‘father hu$$la’ for slinking about
Winter is approaching and there are several ways to keep yourself warm during the season. Long overcoats are always the classic choice and combining the right colors for inside layers is definitely crucial. I personally wouldn’t wear dress shoes for snow or rainy days. My choice would be the Balmoral boots because it always looks good in a suit (although still not suitable for harsh weather conditions). One of my favorites is Carmina’s Balmoral boots which is made in Horween cordovan leather. It is an extremely durable material that is water-resistant and will age a very long time. Another option would be Carmina’s Balmoral boots with Dainite rubber soles which prevents you from slipping on wet surfaces. This is a good choice for those who want to break the bank. coat / Zara tie / Harrison Blake Apparel sweater / Uniqlo trousers / Zara sunglasses / Gucci shoes / Allen Edmonds

God I w a n t to cry
I survived an abusive relationship. At this point I have talked to and worked with hundreds of people in abusive relationships.
Guess what? telling us to leave never works.
ever.
I could write a post about ways to help people leave.
I’ll probably do that one day.
but don’t be that person in the mean time.
This is real quick off the cuff but:
AN ABBREVIATED GUIDE TO ‘holy shit my friend is in an abusive relationshit what do I do’
1. Don’t start shit with the abuser. Your friend? Will pay for it.
I once had a friend slap my abuser.
I am not going to tell you the price I paid b/c I’ve already puked once today and I would like to not do it again.
I once threatened a friend’s abuser.
I almost lost that friend over it.
Don’t do the thing.
2. Understand that the abuser is going to be isolating them.
They may be telling your friend how terrible you are. Any slight- no matter how small will be played up into a big thing. and even if the friend doesn’t hold it against you- it will probably effect how much they reach out to you.
Abusers like to tell their marks things like ‘Oh? A missed your call. Its because they hate you and think you complain too much’
The best way I can tell you to combat that- is just… don’t hold it against them. If they withdraw, don’t be that person like ‘well if you really cared about me you’d have fought for me’
The people who helped the most were those that I felt like.. I could go weeks without talking to and then they’d still listen if I got the courage to come back around.
If you can- work with them to try and schedule things so that they can have support without their abuser getting suspicious. School projects, open places. shit like that.
3. Don’t argue with them that shit is abusive.
Don’t be that person. It will make them feel unsafe with you.
The friends who argued were friends I lost. They were the ones it was easiest for him to make go. Cause here’s the thing… people view isolating as an abuser saying ‘you can’t talk to them!’ and a lot of times its not that.. its an abuser sitting down and saying in a real quiet voice ‘you two argue a lot, and they aren’t respecting you. But I’ll always be here for you okay?’
The most you can do is say “hey.. you know you deserve better than that right?” and if they argue go “I’m not going to argue with you. I don’t want to upset you.
4. If they ask for resources, help them get them.
Don’t offer them unless asked or it will turn into a fight and see above.
5. If they say they’re out of options- help them brain storm ones.
here’s an easy opening to ask if it’s okay to help them find resources.
don’t shove.
6. Be nice to them. consistently.
Too many people were too busy trying to convince me that he was a bad guy- that spending time with them just hurt…
and at least when I was with him it only hurt some of the time.
I got out because I had 4-5 good friends who I had good times with and I finally…. there was the light of ‘oh god this is what healthy relationships feel like. ‘
7. Don’t shove. Don’t pressure.
You can say “I’ll be here for you when you’re ready to leave”
You can remind them of this occasionally.
But don’t be a coercive dick.
Don’t be gross.
Don’t hurt people being abused.
That should not be that hard of a lesson.
Don’t say victim blaming shit to convince them to leave.,
Don’t threaten to leave them if they don’t leave.
Don’t be gross.
You know something we don’t get taught often? Why bodies with uteri often have a slight pouche. You wanna know why? Because the uterus leans against the outside wall of the abdominal cavity. The uterus is literally making that little pouche, the belly that we call fat all the fucking time, and that’s why it’s so fucking hard to get a absolutely flat belly! And thank fuck for having a female anatomy professor who is old enough and feminist enough to not give a damn and cheerfully tell us all the details that a male professor might have thought unimportant. Cause fuck this society that ignores organs in order to fat-shame us.
I had no idea. Like, absolutely no idea.
i did not know this at all
I’d really like a source from that professor, because speaking as an anatomy professor myself? This sounds wrong. The uterus is actually a decent ways back; it’s deep to the bladder and all the intestines, and it’s not very big. Like, if there’s not baby in it, it’s about the size of your fist, or slightly smaller. And the uterus is pretty darn well anchored in place by ligaments, so it’s not going to distend your belly. The uterus is mostly taking up space that would by occupied by the bladder if the uterus wasn’t there.
That said, the little bit of belly paunch? Is absolutely just organs. Unless you have abs of polished diamond, you can have like two percent body fat and still have a bit of a paunch because that is definitely where all your intestines hang out, taking up space in your body and all.
The pelvis also tends to be tilted differently to facilitate childbearing, and it can create a stronger lordotic curve in the lower back, which in turn shoves all the abdominal organs forward to the same effect.
You are absolutely right! I don’t know whether I misremembered, or she taught something wrong (Honestly willing to bet on me, she was an awesome teacher, and made the class really fucking interesting. Wish we’d been able to visit the cadaver museum as planned, shit would have been hilarious) but she definitely talked about the belly paunch being organs, and how it takes a fuckton of work, like ultra serious work to get your stomach muscles to the point where you lose that paunch, and I remembering being fucking floored. Sorry for the mixup, that’s on me! (Been a few years, oops. *grimaces*)
some musings on teh discourse
Summary:
I’m confused about when it is and isn’t okay to engage discourses and communities that you don’t belong to.
There are often conflicting messages about whether or not external engagement is welcome
some guilt trip you for not engaging while others discourage any level of external engagement.
seeing both positions from one community isn’t surprising bc there are no monoliths.
generally speaking, i have these questions:
Should we care that there is a trend towards discouraging inter-community interaction?
Is there any value to inter-community discourse? Should we bother?
If the answer to (2) is ‘yes’, then what should this look like if ‘solidarity’ and 'coalition’ are no longer deemed desirable.
In an era of unprecedented visibility, the transgender community is at a crossroads. Do we work transgender people into current systems such as education and the military or do we work to significantly transform these structures and society as a whole? While the majority of media attention has gone towards integrating trans people into the dominant culture, is this the right decision for the community? Many activists, scholars, and community members say no.
Hate crime legislation does nothing to protect trans people. Instead, it only increases sentencing for offenders. Is doubling a 7-year sentence going to deter crime? Statistically, the answer is no. Hate crime laws do not look at the roots of the problem, including systemic racism and transphobia.Individualizing the problem by sending one person to prison does very little for our community as a whole and does not work within a restorative justice framework. People who have committed these acts can be educated along with the public on transgender issues, which will actually stop the violence. This is not to mention many people incorrectly think anti-transgender victimization has ended when hate crime legislation has passed — and then proceed to ignore the perpetual violence we still face. Hate crime laws are just one of many examples of where “equality” fails to work for the trans community.
It is important to understand that equality and rights are not justice or liberation. Equality does not account for difference in culture, identity, or ability.
Okay. Part 1 of my Epic Essay on Race is up. Here’s a summary:
Primary thesis: Race is a historically bounded phenomena and the historical context creates a stable framework that places real boundaries on the scope of racism.
Primary anti-thesis: Race has no stable referrent and can be used to describe any “structural relationship for the articulation and management of human differences”
Methodology and focus is one of the reasons for this difference of perspective:
my view is motivated by a belief that the institutions and structures (legal, political, etc) encode racism and provide evidence for how it was used as oppression.
opposing view focuses on cultural and social discourses as a way to analyze the role of racism at various points in history.
Johann Blumenbach was a real person whose treatise on race basically created the framework we still exist within today.
As evidence: his work is cited in various American court cases that determined the legal boundaries of who was and who wasn’t white.
But the stability of white supremacy is actually more entrenched than racism, since scientific notions are disregarded when they conflict with social conventions, when they allow the Other to be seen as white.
The fact that racism was a science but is now discredited has actually served to make race more reductive, essential, and stable than at any other point in its history.

IF THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WAY!!
why the fuck does english have a word for
but not for “the day after tomorrow”
???
Because you’re not looking hard enough! ;)
Overmorrow = the day after tomorrow
Ereyesterday = the day before yesterday
Example: I defenestrated my brother ereyesterday. I shall defenestrate my sister overmorrow! Because I hate my family and also windows.
english has some of the best examples of stupidly specific words, tbh
Rhotacism (n): excessive use of the letter “R”
Lingible (adj): meant to be licked
Whipjack (n): a beggar, specifically one who is pretending to have been shipwrecked
Yerd (v): to beat with an object with a stick
Roddikin (n): the fourth stomach of a cow or a deer
Balbriggan (n): a type of fine cotton, most often used in underwear
and my personal favorite
Cornobble (v): to slap or beat another person with a fish
This makes the English nerd in me extremely happy.
Who even made these words I’m going to cornobble them
My dick is lingible
there is a dictionary that has all of these stupidly specific and obscure words and a whole lot more. It’s absolutely beautiful.
I love linguistics ^_^
So this is really the Cornobble Dance. Good to know!
